Okay here me out. Lily’s show is planning to be canceled. It’s her last show. She walks on to stage and all do a sudden she takes of a mask and she’s actually. A straight white man.
Conan would actively shut up his employees saying he went to Harvard. He realized the guy that would introduce him would always say he went to Harvard, and then the audience would become much more skeptical of him and his jokes. Once the intro guy stopped that, laughs came a lot more easily for him. Lily should’ve learned from him and not be “wow I’m rich and have a mansion and am a celebrity”
TIL Conan went to Harvard haha - guess it worked! I know him for being a tall ginger doofus (probably the least sophisticated of all the Late Night Hosts I can think of) and lots of jokes about that, so him graduating from Harvard would definitely compromise those jokes.
@@sorryifoldcomment8596 When he hosted the White House Correspondents dinner, one of his jokes involved comparing himself to Obama and he mentioned they both went to Harvard
You worded your first sentence incorrectly. What you said was, basically, "Conan would tell his employees to shut up, because he went to Harvard." As in, "I'm smarter than you because I went to Harvard, so you can just shut up, idiot." What you should have written would have been something like "Conan would actively stop his employees from telling the audience that he went to Harvard."
You've mentioned Conan, who's my favorite late night host. He actually makes a lot of "I'm famous and rich and handsome" jokes but he gets humiliated immediately after - like a stranger telling him they don't know who he is, or a girl telling him he's not good-looking. The jokes are always directed at himself, unlike Lilly who's just straight up bragging, asking validation from the audience.
Self-deprecating humor, it's why it's funny. It's not funny just to hear some idiot brag about how much money they have, what cars they have or how much more successful they are than you and then make a shit-eating grin while canned audience laughter plays.
This was surprisingly insightful. Not just about Lily, but life in general and how to handle your ego. Well done good sire, I shall share your teachings with the villagers.

Either that or they're laughing ironically because the punch line is so predictable and they can't believe someone is actually trying to pass it off as a "joke."
It’s interesting watching this after her interview with Anthony Padilla, where she fully admitted that she knew the jokes on her show weren’t funny and that she didn’t see herself being a TV host to begin with
I'm guessing the network pushed a lot of the white people jokes and other unfunny aspects of the show to try to appeal to a younger and more diverse demo, and we all know how execs trying to appeal to young people usually works out
So why'd she get so defensive to the point of making several videos targeting her fans for cyberbullying her while she has a breakdown over mild critique?
@Agent J what the actual FUCK are you talking about. i literally cannot understand what you are saying. not only that but i am noy trying to insult you, i orginally replied because i found your first comment very confusing. why are you getting so angry?

It’s still so crazy to me that Drew posted this video 1 week before I started an internship for Lilly’s company, sometimes it feels like he lives inside my brain just poking around in all the mush
TH-cam humor often doesn’t translate to television. The format is different and your audience is more diverse, your jokes have to work on different levels for a lot of different people
I think that's why late night took youtube by a storm once they all started using the platform to the point where there were tons of videos about tv networks essentially taking over the homegrown youtuber. These were just people who knew how to appeal to general mass audiences and once they figured out the technical and stylistic differences that came with the internet, it was a matter of doing the same thing.
tori248 the homegrown TH-camr is a dying breed sadly. Even channels like Smosh have dismantled their home-video type appeal and tried to follow a TV sketch comedy format, like SNL. Jake and Logan Paul are doing reality TV type shows. I guess there’s still some channels like PewDiePie or Jenna Marbles that are going strong but not many.
@@ChipmunkAsylum I would imagine there's plenty of fresh talent, it's just hard to get a substantial following in the first place, and of those that do, it's very hard to keep it going for years and years. Probably have to keep reinventing yourself? Kind of like celebrities in general
Lilly was my favorite TH-cam person in middle school. I hadn't watched her content in years and just recently went back to it this week. I actually fell out of watching her content before the late night show. Once she reached a certain point of success, I felt like her production quality skyrocketed but her actual content never evolved and it developed this insincere quality to it. And watching her videos now, they're not that funny, but I enjoy her videos before 2017ish because it felt like she was at least enjoying herself and she seemed likable. I feel like she lost that after she got more successful.
yeah there's a spontaneity to smalltime short form content that makes even a lame joke feel fun. if she'd made that hair in her buttcrack joke just into her phone at random on vine or a youtube short it would have probably done really well.
Yeah - I enjoyed watching her until about 2017, but after that the quality of her videos felt a bit off. She’s practically disappeared from TH-cam since the late night debut
As much as I love Drew’s less serious videos where he’s reacting to strange addictions or useless life hacks etc. I think I prefer these in-depth, analysis videos bc they’re actually so interesting!
I drink too much tea people like Cody ko & Jarvis Johnson have the same format. unfortunately they're not as in-depth, & much more of that surface level "haha shes does stinky jokes"
I think the biggest problem (besides the whole identity jokes which got old fast0 is that the most successful late night show hosts worked on other shows and not as headliners. Guys like Meyers, Conan, Stewart all worked as joke writers and/or secondary characters. They had years of collaborative training to hone their skills so when they got their chance they knew how to work with the joke writers and find a unique voice without being overwhelmed.

The problem with Lilly is that she doesn’t accept constructive criticisms. So , she just sees these videos that help her improve her show and just passes them as ‘hate’ . This video actually had good advice for her , only if someone doesn’t like your show that they don’t want to help you improve . There is room for improvement, but Lilly looks so tired and stressed since she is pushing herself under this schedule. So my final thoughts are That being a T.V show host isn’t the thing for Lilly she was better off doing TH-cam .And I actually enjoyed some of her TH-cam videos.
I like her on TH-cam and she seems good and she enjoys it, especially older ones. But I saw her show and its awful, the celebrities ones when she plays game with them it uncomfortable me to watch and I see in the guests they aren't enjoy at all. Lilly herself seems uncomfortable on the stage and she doesn't enjoy at all. So I think she better continues with TH-cam videos only, many people enjoy and likes her on her channel.
This was such a great watch- and I love how you've really circled in on the whole situation. As a teen NRI (non resident Indian ) in the Middle East, I was shown her vids by friends way back when her original videos were so relatable- miles away, (Indian) kids had the same experience with parents. It was amazing to see it being satirized. Then I just grew up and forgot about her. Read she'd got a show and was happy for her. Then the IMMEDIATE backlash hit and that got me intrigued to see her channel again after YEARS and realised her videos became UNFUNNY, unrelatable, very" LelePons- Hannah Stocking/ ex-Viner lame" videos and I never got around to seeing anything about her show. Her old videos had heart, humor and an organic element to it. It's now overproduced with quality of writing/humor being completely forgotten, just collaborating with other "celebrities" to promote their projects, it became clear that it was no longer ....fun. Found this video and I'm glad it got the points down for me. And this is the DEFINITION OF CRINGE, the words out of her mouth are only second to those egregious "movements/gestures/Tiktok-dance??" things she does when she thinks she's GOALS around the 13:00 mark. Really rooted for her back then but damn. Wish the best for her - She's definitely hardworking and an inspiration to POC, so I do hope she gets better projects and focuses on more quality that goes beyond her "identity". Thanks, Drew- loved your explanation of the TH-camr Ego! I like Liza Koshy and her TH-cam Red show. She was HILARIOUS and so witty, with an insanely strong Pun game. P.S.: And thanks for letting me know universally loved actor, Nick Offerman, was on Hot Ones.
DUDE. That's exactly the type of quality (or lack of it) the show has!! Slightly entertaining, but actually quite cheap and boring. Conspiracy: Lily is secretly part of Buzzfeed. 👀
I think they're just in for the money, and Lily is probably one of those people who will kick you out when you say something negative about them. That's my theory.
The youtube channel Funhaus spoke about this. When some members left they spoke about maybe going into doing a free form gameshow host. Ie one that's less about the rules and more about the host personality. Understanding your limits (shorter videos less scripted or long-form scripted comedy) is a major talent that TH-camrs lack sometimes
To the point of bragging on camera about being famous, it only works if you do it ironically, in a self-deprecating way. Conan is the king of self-deprecating comedy, and this is why he's so endearing. He's miles richer and more popular and than Lilly, but he STILL plays the "look what a loser I am" card whenever he's on camera. It's always about how goofy he looks, or how comically tall he is, or how Irish he is, or he pretends to be a fake creep with his female guests.
@@judyh3707 it can be done. The problem is humor is different for women. It plays a different role in society. Being funny has a reproductive benefit for men. Not so much for women.

In other words, she's not trying to bring women higher, she's trying to force everyone else in a lower position and that's what frustrates me. I'm a woman. According to a woman who got to be in the audience, they are indeed coached before the set up and riled up because "If nobody laughs, then the people watching the show wont know when to laugh." Its really quite sad.
Swell Entertainment talked about everything with being in the audience and the show is not doing well for itself when they have to pay the audience members.

Guarantee you it’s because in the past three years since Trump got elected, she’s been very “I’m not a white male”. Very feminist and identitarian. Her PAH-KI-STAHN video got a lot of Hollywood views.
Really no TH-camr should be given a late night talk show. Kids and teenagers are the primary demographic of every major youtube channel. TH-cam itself actively discourages content for adults by demonitizing channels that aren't "advertiser friendly".
I wouldn’t completely count YTers out of a talk show but they really have to be worth it & can make up jokes on the spot. These clips of Lily are clearly read & prepared & it’s just not funny. She’s always done solo videos. Having her go from solo “comedy” TH-cam clips to an entire talk show was such a bad idea. She has nothing to back up her being a talk show host
It's been three years from when I last watched anything from Lilly, and oh my God, this HURTS. It's like if the writers for Big Bang Theory and Buzzfeed came together to write for Amy Schumer, it's painfully bad.
her “i’m not a straight white man” repetitive jokes is especially frustrating to other women of color esp. those trying to make it in the entertainment industry bc it makes us all look like just a big joke, she really had the potential to do something monumental and instead did this
Yep. The constant operation on borrowed time, the walking on eggshells needs to stop. You're basically throwing behind the reciever of the political gridiron. Football guys will get this. You need to have the ability to anticipate future trends and catch them on the growth phase, throw ahead of the reciever, or audience, so they have the mental incentive to catch the joke. The current networks don't have it.
Same for being bisexual, like it’s passed the point of being open and feels more like using it as just another punchline, and like the last thing I want is for straight people to see us as a joke or some other species or whatever...it’s not helping with any issues or representation, it just feels messy

12:49 - Conan didn't do a monologue about how rich & privileged he was. He did a skit where he acted like a nice boss and took the interns to dinner - where they only had free bread and water while he dined on a seafood tower. That was hilarious.
Someday, maybe, someone in-charge of a major network or film studio will realize: popularity on the internet does NOT equate to popularity off the internet. They can correlate positively, but absolutely do NOT equate.
One issue is she has a primarily young audience. Like twelve thirteen year old girls. Not the sort of adults that would typically watch a late night show.
Which is exactly why she should of stuck to youtube. Why she thought she could suddenly appeal to adults when her target audience has always been kids I'll never understand

Drew’s critiquing in this one was real good. However, knowing Lilly, she’ll brush off the criticism and feedback as insulting and others being mean. She can’t take feedback to save her life. For an equally good video critiquing her show, J Aubrey’s video covers it in good depth.
It's so interesting to rewatch this after having seen her interview with Anthony Padilla. There was some great context provided there, I highly recommend it if anyone is interested in knowing a bit more about what happened behind the scenes
Ella Jonth I agree. I remember being a preteen and really enjoying her content because it felt like she was just a friend, and she was relatable. But then I grew up and she didn’t. I tried to keep coming back to her channel but it just seemed too.. professional. I think she lost a lot of her audience because she didn’t grow up, and her videos just seemed like they were overdone
Yeah. In my opinion, one good example of a creator who did grow up with their audience is pewdiepie. I loved him when I was 12 and I still love him at 18. His content is definetly different today, but the essence is still there
I love that Drew is literally helping her..he isn't just telling her your show sucks like other youtubers he is telling her what's wrong with her show, advising her by recommending ways to make the show way better and he isn't so mean to her... The great thing about the TH-cam algorithm is it makes sure that the kind of people watching your videos are the kind of people who would enjoy your content. But when you go mainstream on a talk show, then you need to appeal, not just to your finely algorithm tuned niche audience, but everyone.

You worded your first sentence incorrectly. What you said was, basically, "Conan would tell his employees to shut up, because he went to Harvard." As in, "I'm smarter than you because I went to Harvard, so you can just shut up, idiot."

TH-cam humor often doesn’t translate to television. The format is different and your audience is more diverse, your jokes have to work on different levels for a lot of different people
True going from niche to mass market

Audience. 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭😭😭🍑😂😭😂😭😂😭😭😭😂😭
lele pons: still white and unfunny
lilly: still fucking unfunny
i just don’t understand who thought it was a good idea to give someone whose target audience is children a late night talk show like ?????
andra gabriela right.. didn’t they check demographics ???
Forward thinking socialist scumbags.....
Waybaloos theme song slaps that’s all I’m here to say
shes like a walking buzzfeed article
This has no right being so correct
Relatable
It’s filmed opposite of the buzzfeed building lmaoo
I couldn't think of a more accurate description
This is an insult to buzzfeed I find them entertaining but not this😬
"Please don't confuse my 1 star rating with 1 star. It is actually 0. Thank you."
A true Genius.
I legit paused the video to see how many people agreed with their comment.
Did Tyra Banks write that lmao
It reminds me of the "it is so bad I want to give it a zero, but I cant so I give it a 1"
@@srijapabba4989 lmao
I am seriously questionning if that should become my cover pic
her “i’m not a straight white man” repetitive jokes is especially frustrating to other women of color esp. those trying to make it in the entertainment industry bc it makes us all look like just a big joke, she really had the potential to do something monumental and instead did this
@@RubyBlueUwU Hey as long as you can contribute to runaway economic growth and make sure our country's financial and creative fields pop off in a good way, I don't care who you sleep with.
Coming from a bi woman, that kind of humour is really exhausting. It makes your humour really inaccessible and dull. You can make jokes about gender and race and stuff, but you have to be clever about it.
@@RubyBlueUwU i honestly feel like she just hopped on the bisexual bandwagon just so she can act like a victim. Shes a woman, poc, and now part of the lgbt. Probably thinks shes making history when shes just being racist and judgemental as hell.
i feel like this show would’ve been more successful if they just made it a talk show for kids, cause i can’t think of anything that exists right now like that
I’m convinced that 99% of Lilly’s subscribers are people who can no longer log into their account they had when they were 12.
👏👏👏
Mostly because they will be twelve in the future
Yes
True
So true tho, i have a old account that had subscribe to Lilly but can't log in anymore lol. I don't like her content now
she acts like my mom trying to be cool and funny infront of my socially awkward friend
Pretty sure your mom is funnier tho
@@cosmogyral6826 prestty sure she is
Why is this so true 😭✋🏻
Don't do your mama like that.
As the socially awkward friend yes
the set looks like it’s for a youtube parody of an late night talk show
The Eric Andre show has more production value, and it's supposes to be a parody of shitty Talk Shows
yeah but if it was like that it would be such a funny show!!
I thought it was a youtube talk show. It looks so cheap.
@@melizabeth. some TH-cam talk shows are better than this
NOW THAT would have been a really really good idea
12:49 - Conan didn't do a monologue about how rich & privileged he was. He did a skit where he acted like a nice boss and took the interns to dinner - where they only had free bread and water while he dined on a seafood tower. That was hilarious.
Yeah you have to actually make a joke about it. Just saying/observing without following the notion to something humorous is not enough.
“I’m starting to think that Lilly...might not be a white man.” Lmao.
no waaaay...
*Breaking News, Lilly Singh is not a white male.*
Wait she’s not
Even if she was, she still wouldn't be funny
Shook
I get second hand social anxiety while she's telling jokes
like that feeling when you watch an Eric Andre interview, only she’s doing it unintentionally
Yes!! Second hand embarrassment
Isto :(
its called cringe
HA
sticking ur tongue out after every punchline isnt gonna make the joke funnier sis 😩
The fact that people don't outgrow this at age 17 is mind boggling
She thinks she is so famous but I've never heard of her
It's what Kidz bop Karen does
The comment was all good until "sis 😩"
@@wisermicrobe1152 You don't need to know someone in order for them to be famous.
Someday, maybe, someone in-charge of a major network or film studio will realize: popularity on the internet does NOT equate to popularity off the internet. They can correlate positively, but absolutely do NOT equate.
her "i'm a bisexual woman of colour" is like lele pons' "i'm latina"
as a bisexual woman of colour that IS Latina. I concur. UuU
@@RockinRoyaltyx3 mhm!
The only funny thing about lily is her show Bc it’s gonna fail
they should have given the show to Nigahiga
BTW I took this comment from another video
i’m a bisexual woman of color too and i’m probably funnier than her what the fawk😃
One issue is she has a primarily young audience. Like twelve thirteen year old girls. Not the sort of adults that would typically watch a late night show.
Which is exactly why she should of stuck to youtube. Why she thought she could suddenly appeal to adults when her target audience has always been kids I'll never understand
I watched her for about a month when i was 12 i thought she was kinda fun and then I got bored lol
I don’t think it’s even 12 year olds lmao I would say it’s younger than that
@@ravenhatter5395 same
exactly everyone grew out of her shsit except her now she thinks she can go on network television and entertain a totally diff age group
the downfall started when iisuperwomanii became lily singh no cap

Yep
Truest thing I’ve ever heard.
yesss!!i used to love her.
as an indian girl…. it makes me so sad that she is like our only representation for this type of tv stuff 😭😭
worst part is she supports Khalistani terrorists
Even worse part is the other Indian Girl in Hollywood is Mindy Kaling
@@TheLivingThanos who, somehow, her skin is getting whiter 🤔
Indian rep in the west sucks so BAD that I’ve had people genuinely be surprised that I’m not ugly/smelly. Granted I’m usually the first Indian person most of these people have met but STILL
You have all of Bollywood. White people deserve their own stuff too!
Drew being level-headed, stating things clearly, logically and calmy, while making great and insightful points just makes me so happy.
My respect for him leveled up after watching this video.
Yeah I just found his channel nd am in love
He’s definitely a virgin hater, this is just a hate video and is bigoted and racist.
@@snickers8998 no he isn't didn't u watch it well.
@@florencembah2626 did you not see the blatant sarcasm?
Lily sing saying she”s not a white man or is a bisexual woman of color is like Lele pons reminding us she’s Latina.
Teddy- Chan or Logic reminding us he’s a biracial man of no color
Im just gunna slide in here to ask about your profile pic....... what is it, where did you get it and more specifically, why?
lele pons is a white rich colonizer baby who happens to speak spanish.
Then stop watching....
@Cami C ... so a lot of spain?? A Spanish person is still Latino/Latina
i really love that drew isn’t being mean and just disrespectful and is giving advice and trying to help
Sad part about it is that Lilly will just blow it off and say it’s just him trolling
Amazing critique tbh
Drew’s critiquing in this one was real good. However, knowing Lilly, she’ll brush off the criticism and feedback as
insulting and others being mean. She can’t take feedback to save her life.
For an equally good video critiquing her show, J Aubrey’s video covers it in good depth.
same! he's so thoughtful and I appreciate that
It's so interesting to rewatch this after having seen her interview with Anthony Padilla. There was some great context provided there, I highly recommend it if anyone is interested in knowing a bit more about what happened behind the scenes
Same!
I actually liked lily and she was funny when i was like 11. She’s one of the creators that didn’t grow up with their audience.
“She’s one of the creators that didn’t grow up with their audience”
IM DYING
*PREACH* 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Ella Jonth I agree. I remember being a preteen and really enjoying her content because it felt like she was just a friend, and she was relatable. But then I grew up and she didn’t. I tried to keep coming back to her channel but it just seemed too.. professional. I think she lost a lot of her audience because she didn’t grow up, and her videos just seemed like they were overdone
Same
Yeah. In my opinion, one good example of a creator who did grow up with their audience is pewdiepie. I loved him when I was 12 and I still love him at 18. His content is definetly different today, but the essence is still there
Like jenna marbles and her insufferable content
That gesture after her Tesla “joke” may have been the cringiest, saddest thing I have ever seen.
Jessica R I’m so glad someone said something about... that
What tesla joke.
I know. I physically cringed.
@Hmmm black. thank youuu for the time stamp, you are doing god's work
Just seen it and I think I'm having a stroke
I love that Drew is literally helping her..he isn't just telling her your show sucks like other youtubers he is telling her what's wrong with her show, advising her by recommending ways to make the show way better and he isn't so mean to her... Honestly if I get to choose a video to show her I would choose this without hesitation
The great thing about the TH-cam algorithm is it makes sure that the kind of people watching your videos are the kind of people who would enjoy your content. But when you go mainstream on a talk show, then you need to appeal, not just to your finely algorithm tuned niche audience, but everyone.
The fact this video has more views than her episodes...
The biggest laugh
Now thats funny
thankfully, even the mouth breathers of the world have to draw the line somewhere, her show is unwatchable haha makes my ears and eyes bleed, should probably get that checked out...
Admittedly I'm into the double digits for how many times I've watched this video...
How does she have millions of subscribers? She's obnoxiously narcissistic and a true Dunning Krueger of Comedy.
She actually has the energy of an old white man
Dad jokin ass
she got that boomer energy on lock 🔥
Why do you think they gave her a talk show
OkaY bOOmer
Now that's a good one.

Don't. She couldn't.

didn't she say she was vegetarian??
@@CJ-iz3mp ya i’m pretty sure all she eats is Oreos
I mainly come back to her older videos every now and then because they are generally fun and somewhat nostalgic to watch, especially as a South Asian myself. I think it’s best to stick to your strengths, nothing wrong with trying new things, but this wasn’t it for her
