    Finally, I put motors on the big 3D printed tank! I made an 8:1 reduction box made from sprockets that run chains so they don't break as has happened before with belts. I'm pretty happy with the reduction boxes and the motor power but the mix of sensorless motors and those VESCs is not very good for precision and control so I'm planning a small change that I hope will make a huge difference. Stay tuned (and subscribe) for the next video so you don't miss what I have on storage for this tank.
    The VESCs were down-powered to 10% power and motor RPM because I have had a few scares in the pasts with those and didn't want to risk a crash in the first test. There's plenty of power on the motors, those are 4000W motors and we'll hopefully put all that power to good use soon. Enjoy!
    All the sprocket brackets and spacers where printed with Matterhackers NylonX on the PulseXE, you can find it here:

      For controlling the tank while sitting inside you can use servo testers. You plug them on the ESC-cable like your reciever, one for each motor, and attach a lever to the potentiometers.

    Look into a track tensioning system cause it looks like when your tank goes from forwards motion to backwards motion and vice versa alot of slack is thrown under the sprocket wheels which could cause wearing problems or could cause a track throw. Lessening that slack would also make it more receptive to forwards and backwards motion and make it easier to replace tracks.

    • @ivanmirandawastaken
      @ivanmirandawastaken  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Not the issue

    • @DmdShiva
      @DmdShiva 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're going to get slack at one end or the other, depending on which way you move; you can see it on real tanks as well. Given the materials, a track tensioner is probably not needed because the components wll wear enough to need replacement before a tensioning adjustment is needed. Still, having watched so many of The Chieftain's Hatch videos, it seems almost sacrilegious to show off a tank and not have a segment showing off how to adjust the track tension...

    This is insane (in the good way). One mechanical note: If you start watching at about 13:35, watch the trailing end of the treads. There is some slack in them. Looks like almost enough to cause trouble, when you get out into the world. Maybe see if you can take out a tread? If not, try adding a tension roller somewhere on the top if the tread?

    To do something like those intermediate shafts, you could save yourself a whole lot of effort by buying shaft with keyway already cut in it, and then just print your bushings with keyways in them. No marking and drilling necessary.

      A 3D printed keyway wouldn't last a 10th of a turn

    • @14768
      @14768 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure where you have received that information but that is absolutely 100% false. It is by far the strongest way to secure an object to a shaft against rotational forces. The surface area is significantly larger than a through pin, and it doesn't significantly weaken the shaft like cross drilling does. I would be shocked if you don't break a shaft soon now that you have moved to an M5 hole. The only time a rotational load is secured to a shaft with a through pin is actually when it is intended to be a failure point to prevent damage. For example, the screw in a snow blower is secured to a shaft with a pin so that if you hit a rock with the screw the pin will sheer and not damage the entire machine. You have essentially secured it with a sheer pin. In the next couple of weeks when I have time I will make a video testing a 3d printed keyway versus a through pin and make a video for you with the results.

    Hola Iván. I've noticed your tracks have a bit of slack. That can pose two problems: 1 a lack of control, as the lower side of the track has to get in tension to start pushing on the tank. The second one is that until that tension is reached, the sprocket has time to speed up and then it suddently grips, causing a huge stress on every part of your transmission. That may be a cause of your bolt breaking haha. I don't know if you already had that in mind and you are going to fix it, if not, well, I'd be glad if my comment helped you. However I would be careful tensioning the belt too much, as it could snap easily. You're a very smart guy and surely you'll find a way to fix that. Me encantan tus vídeos, sigue así máquina 👍🏼

    ok Mr. Madlad here is a little something you can do to improve steering a bit. see those support wheels in the middle? if you make it so they are (in the case of this build) about 1 to 3 cm higher than the rest of them, you will increase the ground preaure in the middle while reducing it on the ends, this will allow the threat belt to slide better on the ends, thus increasing turn control and efficiency.

    Something to consider that could leave you a little more space for the motors, Instead of a multiple sprockets to get your reduction , could try worm and wheel instead, would have the added bonus of when the motor is not turning the drive wheels are locked (can't back drive a worm and wheel setup).
    Also a flat ground into the shafts might work better than drilling a hole through the rods and forcing all that shear force onto the bolt shafts (think grub screws like how you attach a coupler to the shaft of the stepper motor).

    Maybe you should put an arduino in the tank and pass the control inputs through a moving average filter or limit their slew rate. This smoothes out the spikes of acceleration you're having trouble with.

    Would adding some 'non-linearity' to the controller axis aid in low speed control?
    The tracks are looking like they need some tension, they look slack
    Cant wait for the next video mate!

    Try adding negative exponential on your left and right, this should cause the inside track to reverse or reduce its speed faster, giving you better steering control. Set it at -10, and keep decreasing until you feel the effect is where you want it.

    Looks like the suspension is a bit tough for the weight of the tank (for now), maybe you should consider making a more light suspensionso it dampens better the movements, your tank is amazing and looks robust but it's still plastic fighting against metal , Great video

    Should probably look into high grade metric bolts for the axles, like 10.9 or 12.9. They're much stronger than regular 4.8 or 8.8 metric bolts, in some cases by double or triple tensile strength.
