  • If you get aching pain in your ankles when you’re running, and it seems to lag and doesn’t just go away, you might not have ankle pain at all.
There’s a thing that I see often in runners complaining of ankle pain, but when I actually look at the runner’s feet, it’s a different condition altogether.
That condition is something called “sinus tarsi impingement.”
Today on the Doc On The Run Podcast, we’re talking about ankle pain versus sinus tarsi impingement when running.

Binge-watching your videos! They’re truly excellent.
I just learned of Sinus Tarsi Syndrome a few days ago. I thought it was ankle pain-exactly the confusion that is the subject of this video!
I’m trying to learn as much as I can, and do everything I can, so that I can continue to run every day.
How do you think about mild-moderate pain that is at its worst when *walking* (post-run)? I’ve started to wear running shoes inside my house instead of walking around barefoot, which I hope helps. What am I risking by continuing to run while I’m experiencing this?

Besides running on the opposite side of the road, what else can you recommend? I was hoping to see more options for treatment. Thank you!

I cannot make any recommendations without understanding you, your foot type, your goals, your history of injury, treatment or running form. If needed we could get on a call to discuss in detail.

Thank you for watching and I hope you found the video helpful. I can't offer individualized medical advice based on that amount of information. However if you wanted to discuss your situation, we could figure out whether or not you might be able to walk or do other exercises to maintain your running fitness while you still heal. If you think that might be helpful we could get on a webcam call or phone call to discuss in detail.
