      I would like to see this kind of Taoist swordsmanship and martial arts be more prevalent in the modern day, particularly for its elements that emphasize use of the sword as a way to better oneself and to promote a more mindful view of the world.
      Even if we lived in a world without firearms, there would still be those who commit acts of violence in one form or another towards others. However, if we all were taught a different perspective from an early age and throughout our lives, maybe it would be possible for less violence to occur. This form of swordsmanship and martial arts seems to serve this purpose.
      The mindset is what guides the sword and the person wielding it.

    The swordsmanship in this video is complete garbage, nothing but a stereotypical portrayal of movie-driven dramatized action. Don’t get me wrong, I’m into Chinese sword-styles myself.
    If anyone has actually seen real Jian fights, they look like a mix between rapier fencing, Saber slashing, with a specific emphasis on rotating the body/waist/sword about the sword’s center of balance. This video is clearly catered to the movie watching public and meant to reinforce those useless stereotypes. In any swordfight, NEVER EXPOSE YOUR BACK or TAKE YOUR EYES OFF by spinning around in a meaningless circle.

    • @KF1
      @KF1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your eyes are the right eyes for this. The wild movements are simply qi-gong with sword, and yet not so wild as they look.
      The cuts, if they were to happen in real swordfighting, would be direct and sudden.

    It`s nice fantasy, but you don`t learn how to be a swordsman by watching a cat chasing a mouse, you learn by studying human body mechanics, and by training against another person, or persons. Kung fu is pretty, but basically silly for fighting. Good exercise though.

    What a joke this is. Take a look at any antique Jian & it will be obvious how silly the seen swords in this video are.

      wrong, there aren't many antique swords in China. because Chinese tradition made sure that the owner always gets buried with their valuables, and weapons are among some of the most prized position in ancient China. iron and steel swords is ruined if buried, due to lack of maintenance. the ones you're alluding to are actually bronze swords that are even older, which is made differently from modern swords.

    TRUE swordsmanship 101, the very basics...NEVER show your back to your opponent...or you will surely die. Another basic...never flail your arms in front of your weapon if you want to keep the arm.
    This is just fru-fru ballet with a useless floppy sword that weighs less than a pound. There is nothing "martial" about this art.

    Wudang didn't have its own martial arts style until the 1980ies when the government saw what the Shaolin reconstruction did for tourism and soft power influence in the world. So they made up a tradition and mixed modern wushu with a little bit of Taiji, Xingyi, Bagua and longfist. All of those practices are only understood on a very superficial level. That's the sad truth

      it's what martial art is. develop own style from communicating and studying, wudang, shaolin they are just two names. remember 金庸 martial art fiction said, 天下大同,万法归一。

      @@MrShou-nw7yv Two problems with this point of view:
      1. You need to thoroughly understand the arts you are combining at a high level. This was not the case, as they studied all of them superficially for short periods of time, just the external movement, but without understanding of body mechanics and fight applications.
      2. They are lying about and obscuring the origins. Wudang is promoted as an ancient martial art style, when it is in reality mere 40 years old. This is unacceptable behavior to me.

      I partly agree with you, bcz wudang is a place for Taoism which Its main purpose is academic practice rather than body practice. martial art is just one way out of millions ways to Tao. And talking about which can fight in reality, most of them consider Chen Shi taichi in HeNan province. the essence of Taoism about human body is transfering which is 炼精化气,炼气化神,炼神反虚,it's never about fighting. AS you said it's 40 years ago, it's not true, there is historic book said in Yuan dynasty, 丘处机(1148-1227)traveller thousands miles to meet Genghis Khan.
