Xiaoyao Sword is one of the Wudang sword techniques, which is named after one of the famous works of an ancient Chinese philosopher Zhuangzi. The sword technique features continuous and free sword movements that embody the Taoist's idea of being free and unfettered. Xiaoyao Sword has been derived from Xiaoyao Palm, and the sword is an extension of the arm. One of the characteristics of Xiaoyao Sword is to attack at unexpected angles instead of relying solely on force.
Liuxiang is a coach at Wudang Yunxi Caotang Wushu School. After coming to Wudang Mountain, he was particularly interested in Xiaoyao Sword when he saw his master practicing it. "One of the unique things about Wudang sword techniques is to cultivate the mind. A cultivated mind is all-conquering. To be truly free and unfettered, one should get rid of prejudices and preconceived ideas. In essence, they are all delusions." #kungfu #chinesekungfu #wushu #kungfulegend #kungfumasters #chinabox

My Sifus talked extensively about "effortlessness", as we would practice grueling exercises. I responded once that "Effortlessness is a lot of work.". They laughed, I laughed, the other students laughed. Then they lowered me another inch. I am grateful for all the hardship, because effortlessness is worth all the work...

A rare and very deep discussion of the 'spiritual' aspects of the martial arts, by an extremely high level practitioner. THANK YOU so much! Also, I should mention that while there is nothing wrong with the translation, many of the Chinese terms the speaker uses have very subtle meanings and no exact English equivalents.

How very ironic. He escaped school rules for another institution with even stricter rules. And in the end, understood that rules are the process to let one achieve eventual true freedom of mind.

This Xiaoyao Sword really remind me of Jet Lee's sword technique in one of his old movie, called Swordman 2.
Btw, they should try to use this sword in a HEMA sparring. I think someone who have perfected the form doesn't mean know how to use it in real combat. It was hard to spar with sword. But with HEMA sparring today, it become possible.
