husband speaking - In 1972, on a little Honda 450 - I was on my way to Ark. to visit my brother. I was going to stop at Mt. Rushmore first,. It had been
raining off and on. I could see dark clouds ahead of me so I would stop and put on my rain coat and pants. Spent a hotel night in Spear Fish, Mt. When
I got to the entrance to the park - the main road had been washed out by a flash flood the day before. Nature can be so beautiful and also deadly.. Love the view.

I think the rain (although annoying at times) brought out the colors of the hills and valleys and brush, and cactus…..gorgeous. Is there a reason some people don’t like “small falling water”?? I sleep like a baby when it’s raining. Take care stay out of flooded water areas, but sometimes you can get great shots of from the rush of water! Just stay safe! ❤️❤️❤️

Scrub Oaks and Pinion Pines in the west and mighty White Oaks in the east, Texas as the 2nd largest state has the biggest attitude that's tolerable.
Gorgeous views Miss Sarah, Thank You very much.
While driving OTR I didn't get to enjoy much but motorcycle trips through Texas were outstanding. Rains on the interstates caused fights under overpasses just to stay protected, they are mighty hard rains in Texas.
I do hope for your sake you get to hike every where you go. Please do not let the rain get you down. It's not you it's just the season. Good rain gear can be the difference between a good trip and a great one. I enjoy the rain even on my bike but hiking, you get to see the flow of water. Intermittent streams form some great temporary waterfalls that are a joy to witness.
Stay safe Young lady and we who love will leave you to your devices and safety zones. Though you are very Beautiful, you will be safe and secure in your travels. For this I pray!
    You are in my prayers
    Hoka Hey

In 1978 it flooded up out of the park also. Lives were lost and cars ended up in trees along the town called canyon. I live in Amarillo but right now I am down on Padre Island National Seashore. Have fun in Texas if you run into any trouble give me a shout.

Hello, Sarah. Glad you made it to Texas but very unfortunate about the rain. My cousin and I spent one night there in the 1980’s (I believe) and it was a great adventure! We climbed Devil’s Slide from the north face. On top there is rutted path and a sheer drop on either side. Think you would enjoy it a lot. Lighthouse formation is also a good spot. We explored off the main road and climbed big boulders & scared up a Mule Deer Buck; can’t believe I got that lucky! Hope you can get back there when it’s pretty weather to really enjoy it! Having a very amazing trip with you and your Little One! Keep Safe & Healthy!!!

I did fly home when they got the Dayton International Airport opened back up. That was cool to see. Thanks! Merus Adventure off road park is a stones throw from there. Its address is Claude, Tx. You can actually drive their trails. 3 different levels. Just vehicles, Mt Bikes and hiking. No dirt bikes, no side by sides. You will go up and down the canyon. Palo Duro reminds me of a mini Moab. Enjoyed seeing this

Love Palo Duro, been camping there a couple of times. The Lighthouse trail is pretty cool. Just a trip across the panhandle and into Oklahoma is Lake Latonka and a small town called Medicine Park. These are by the city of Lawton(bypass if possible). Medicine Park is really small, cute, and artsy. You might like it for a little side trip if you're going that way. I hope you're having a nice fulfilling trip. And I hope you can give my side of the state of Oklahoma a try. We're really not as flat as people assume, lol. From Poteau, my town, most of the way south is pretty mountainous. I believe there's a few places on that hipcamp site you use as well. Or you're more than welcome to camp in my front yard. I have great views of the "World's Highest Hill".

I understand how it is to come from a dry climate and be immersed in a rainy climate. I'm an Arizona native and was sent to Germany in 1973, just in time for their rainiest year in 200 years! Over the 17 months I was there, it rained every day except for maybe 7 days total. I think that's why beer is the national drink, what else are you gonna do when it's raining?

Grew up in Amarillo. Spent many, many hours in PD Canyon as a teen. Great place to hike and to camp. Rain can be a blessing. Unfortunately, a high-school friend took a hike on 1 of the hottest, driest days of summer and succumbed. Happened between our junior and senior years. I didn't go with the 2 of them. 1 saw the danger and went for help, but too late. Hope you can enjoy some trails. Hiked a lot. Many, many memories. Thanks for the reminder.

Palo Duro Canyon is a unique and gorgeous environment. Thank you for sharing part of its history since it carries another sad story of American Colonialism as you have shown at the Battle of Sept 28th, 1874. Sadly its original inhabitants were forced to relocate and their supplies were destroyed in another Trail of Tears. Your camera work is wonderful and I like those cloudy day images. I am enjoying your journey Jeepsy, I hope you are finding meaning in your travels also. Trust your intuition and you will be fine!

Ive spent time outdoors in the Army, I hope people have told you, be very careful of parking and sleeping in a Wadi in a arid climate desert near mountains, if it rains hard enough that dry wadi turns into a RAGING river and will wash you and the vehicle away , wadi's are susceptible to flash flooding - be Safe !

Thanks for keeping a good track of the weather. It was the main thing I was concerned about. I once got caught in a mud storm. Yes, it rained thick mud. I was in Arizona, and a tornado had just gone through. It had sucked up so much dust, it rained mud afterward. So thick, the wipers could not clear it. That was a little exciting.

I have spent time in Texas and 2 of my son's and their family live there but Texas is bad for flash floods. There at Fort Hood a Tank was washed down a stream 3 or 5 miles. So I learned to keep an eye to the northwest to west. If I saw any dark clouds I would get away from any low line areas.
I made a believer out of my Company Commander and 1st Sargent. I told them to make sure they put their gear up, but they didn't and at 0200 had to chase their belongings down the road.
