    I never expected Pokimane to be the streamer I would relate to the most out of the one's I have seen you interview. I also have this constant desire to become a better version of my current self and honestly it also gets to me too sometimes. I also have no idea where my life is going, and I often fantasize about "what if's?". Your comment about needing to accept yourself for exactly who you are at this moment, as something that is perfect because I can essentially be nothing else really hit home, at least according to what I interpreted. I wish her the best honestly. I never really watched Pokimane much because I thought that she fit a streamer archetype that didn't interest me. I might check her out again if I see something that catches my eye. These streams have drawn me to the offlinetv house and I'm honestly surprised that I've found content outside of the tft streams that genuinely interest me, such as Michael's insanely clever designs. Thanks Dr. K for giving me an incentive to look for what I usually don't look for.

    The hydra part of the video reminded me so much that twitch chat can basically be a guardian for the streamer, the streamer needs to feed the guardian to remain protected by them. Its up to the streamer to control how the guardian acts, either continue to protect, or devour the weakness. The only problem though is mental health becomes such a worry for streamers when you have such a powerful guardian deciding how your life continues.

So please if you're reading this make sure to check up on people, no matter who they are. It could save their life

      Seriously. That damn video broke my heart dude. Even before the news broke. Can’t blame the people that saw him that day for not knowing his situation or trying to help him, but I do think about the fact that if even one person had given him a hug that walk he might still be here fighting his way through it. Really miss seeing him hyped and smiling and just being a genuinely good person. RIP man.

Such a sad thought but happy and hopeful for some futures that are still lost out there.

      @Elijah Dunay Shit this actually hits different. I remember getting the notification of that video and after watching it I knew something would happen. A few days passed and I saw that he had killed himself, that really fucked me up for a while, but it also got me aware of myself and others around me. I remembered being in school waiting for Etika's next smash bros reaction, knowing he was gone, shit I can’t describe the feeling. I somewhat saw myself in that Etika video, it felt like a mirror, but it also felt like a magnifying glass. I realized how fragile and important life is, but also how much suffering it entails, this was the same with everyone. I realized everyone has problems. Although I was trying to better myself after this, I never felt the same after my realizations from that video. This current pandemic has basically fucked up my life in some aspects, I know this goes the same for nearly everyone right now, but it’s given me some time to introspect also, a true dilemma. I still can’t fully process that Etika's gone sometimes, it sucks.

      @@amerstain In psychoanalytics it's referred to as the "Shadow". It's the dark side of us that doesn't follow the rules. Suppressing that side of you will only result in it growing and festering until you self sabotage and it all comes out. You have to integrate it into your being and accept it for what it is without judgement. Think of the inner child as one of Dr. K's darker guests (abuser, incel, narcissist). They're controlled by their Shadow because they don't understand it. When you can see your inner child as a valuable important person within you, that has needs too, you can find it easy to treat it with compassion and set healthy boundaries with it. An example would be the hero in a story who has a deep anger and hate for the villain who killed his father and intends to hurt others. The hero has a part of him that enjoys violence. Instead of crushing that side of him he allows the monster to feed when it is appropriate. The boundary he sets is "only when someone is actively trying to cause harm, the beast may come out and feed." In some stories the hero will be too brutal, recognize it and set another boundary. Kind of like portion size management of what the beast may eat. That is all healthy. Beating down your child even when it's actions would be appropriate is not healthy. Not standing up for yourself when someone crosses a healthy boundary is not healthy. So we see people who suppress the child become weak and scared (how your inner child feels when you tyrannize them), people who are possessed by the child (no healthy boundaries set gives the child free reign), and people who integrate the child (recognize what the child wants, say no when it's not appropriate, gives the child outlets and situations where they can let loose, and reigns them in before they go to far.)

I just had to get that off my chest sorry.

      Justin B yeah it’s different pain but it’s still pain. I dislocate my joints daily and feel like shit all the time. It’s not okay for me to go out and tell people with joint pain that they’re not allowed to feel that pain or talk about it because it’s not as bad as mine. It’s still pain, all pain is pain and no ones allowed to tell people they’re wrong and aren’t allowed to feel their pain. I wouldn’t go to a person with my condition who suffers from heart problems and a punctured lung and start telling them how to get better coz I have no idea. My pain isn’t the same as theirs but both of our pain exists.

    • @sachikawaii
      @sachikawaii 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @jorge guzman but pain is pain. Just because I have a much higher pain tolerance in order to function as a human doesnt mean everyone with less pain than me dont matter. Also money doesnt equal happiness, you can actually be rich and horribly depressed. And that's allowed and valid.

    • @sachikawaii
      @sachikawaii 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Justin B well I mean it’s hard to differentiate with that, like I look completely normal, I’m not in a wheelchair, I can walk into a shop and back out but sometimes I get pass out spells or horrific vertigo or my legs just stop being legs so I use a disabled spot because of that risk. If there was a choice between me and a wheelchair user then 100% I can walk from the spot that’s slightly further away. Noone should diminish others pain because we don’t know what others are truly going through and feeling. I can semi comfortably push myself to walk to the village shops and it looks relatively effortless but when I get home, I’m almost paralysed for a bottle of milk.

    • @sachikawaii
      @sachikawaii 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Justin B no i totally agree on that front, I just don’t like when people feel superiority for feeling more pain than others and telling people with less pain to shut up about it. Many of my friends and content creators I watched talked about shady things she has done and it made me lose trust for her. However, after watching this video, I started to understand why those rumors came about and why she really isn’t much different from all of us. I find what you said interesting ... Ye to much of anything is in the end bad... For example I am at the opposite side of pokimane, I live alone and when I say alone I mean it... Totally alone in a 3 room apartment and the closest friend is at a 15 minutes way with a bus... So I don t even have friends close to my house... Tbh it feels bad, and I want to have interactions with people more often... I want to feel exhausted by social interaction just so I could enjoy the lonely life in my home... That s my type, social interaction is the key for me to enjoy my time when I am lonely, otherwise if I just stay alone in my home I begin not to want to do anything because of a lack of energy and stimulation... I think it also happens to other people too but not as dramatically as it happens to me... I mean everyone has a happy vibe inside the home after spending lots of fun time outside the house... We all know the feeling after a huge trip with friends that is exhausting but also fun and the sansation at the end of the trip of saying thing like " ugh, I can t wait to get home and :play games, sleep, do sports" we all kind of have more energy inside our home even if we live alone after spending a lot of "outside" time... But it feels like for me it is 3 times more powerful... I literally can t function inside my home unless I had huge social interactions, I need to be exhausted by social interaction in order to feel good alone... But also, I once lived in a different home where I got sooooo many people coming to visit me because I was staying close to them back then when I was living in that house... And ye, back then it began to be exhausting to HAVE so many people around me... So at the end of the day I think it must be 50/50 in order for it to work alright... Like ,not living totally separated from friends but also not having them come to you every second... Shits weird... Idk

    • @LolzandLolz
      @LolzandLolz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      AlexOS Working hard is subjective, because depending on what a person can do, they are able to accomplish many tasks. An example is owning a Merch store, being a multi media streamer with millions of followers, being apart of OfflineTv; a company in which it gets sponsorship whilst making content offline, owning a personal makeup set that’s up for sale, and overall being successful because of their financial stability. With all of those activities comes with great responsibility that a person who hasn’t work hard enough cannot earn. Because of how far her influence can reach due to her large following, it’s inevitable that she’ll be apart in dramas that she does not want to partake in. Her job is essentially working on a live stream in front of people who are good or bad, but ready to pounce at her as soon as she makes a mistake. However, you cannot discredit her years of hard work from the young age of 17 to her adult years of 23 just because she’s been in drama numerous times. That’s outright prejudiced and a lack of judgement on your part objectively.

    I'm gonna try to take a little of overweight from yall's chests on this one, I see a lot of yall relating to "You gotta treat your family like party members not NPC’s".
    That must make yall feel pretty fucking sad, in exactly the same way where he was describing it to Imane right there.
    But here's the thing, it's really never been her fault, or yall's for that matter. It's the parents fault. It's the parents' job to approach their kid and conversate with them, ask them how school was, ask them if anyone at school annoyed them, ask them what's their favorite subject at school is, tell them about how you were bullied back in school and how you grew out from it, tell them about your past, at each and every year and stage of your kid's life, you should be there for them, talk to them and ask them and relate to them, throw advice at them, open up, share feelings, give them solid life experience advice.
    In Imane's case, and probably billions of kids and parents out there, you never teach your kid how to talk to you, you're always just strict and absolute about everything, and then when you're in your 50's and your kid's in their 20's, there's a 30 year barrier, AND your kid's 20+ years of living with a parent figure who has always been there but not really, how are they gonna know how to talk to you then?
    That's the problem with most parents nowadays, especially the western. That's why yall value mother's day so much, because it seems like that day is the only day you get to show your gratitude and affection to your mother's/parents, by giving them a simple gift, and visiting/just being there. While how it "should" be, is being there for your parents, and them being there for your EVERY day, not only once a fucking year.
    Doesn't matter what age you are, doesn't matter what age your parents are, there always should be a sense of communication there. My dad is 56 years old, his mother is around 78-80 I think, she's still mentally sane and somewhat physically capable, he still visits her every other week if not weekly, and a lot of times just checks up with her to take her opinion on random things, negotiate random decisions with her, etc, etc. Although he has a wife and kids who are already married with kids.
    If your parents did a bad job being open and transparent with you, it's ok, they are human too, yes, they made mistakes, it's their fault this time, but when you're in your 20's or late 20's, some of that responsibility is now on you, it'll be very much easier for YOU now to open up to them and talk to them, compared to them doing it. Why? Because you grew up so much and changed so much up until your mid 20's, that they don't even know you anymore. They would not even know where to start talking to you, or what to ask about, other than just checking up and hoping you're doing ok, but deep inside, they're still human, they're very sad and broken that they can't talk to their kid, they cannot open up with their and really make sure their kid is ok. As Dr. K said, imagine yourself being a parent, and your kid grew up not "trusting" you in some sense, and your kid goes through whatever they go through, and you just cannot approach them anymore. How will you feel then? You'll feel devastated. That's how most parents feel nowadays towards their kids. And keep in mind, parents with their kids are THE BEST at hiding their feelings. They have a natural, god-given protective power with their kids, because they know how devastated their kid will feel if they know their parents don't feel well. That's why parents tend to hide it all from us. And that's why I think it's your responsibility in your 20's to approach your parents and talk to them, check on them, catch up with them, etc.
    With all that being said, go listen to this song, think about what I said, and cry a little bit, not too much. th-cam.com/video/JVpTp8IHdEg/w-d-xo.html

      Thank you for saying this. I know this is something that affects particularly my relationship with my father; for many reasons, I have grown distant from him over the years, and I know I am the one who will have to bridge the gap. I thought your point about parents not educating their children about communicating with them is very insightful.

      Holy crap. I'm astonished that my issues are that common. And I'm honestly uncomfortable that the responsibility should fall on me, now. To be perfectly honest, I don't want that responsibility, and I don't want to reach out to them. They've failed me too many times. But maybe I should just be a better person and push through anyway... although that might be one of those "shoulds" Dr K also talked about that can be detrimental.

I don't care if they are rich or poor, CEO's or barn keepers, all professions are admirable, as long as what they are doing is what they truly want to be doing. I don't want them to feel like they need to do anything specific to make me happy, just be themselves and be happy with their choices. I will always be here for them and forever proud of them. I hope that I give them the tools they need to succeed in life not just some given career. This is reminding me massively of conversations I had with a therapist about a year ago. I feel bad for Poki, because it really does suck to constantly be beating yourself up with the idea of 'should' - the kind of person you 'should' be, the type of job you 'should' have, the progress you 'should' be making. For years I'd been stuck in a cycle of thinking that whatever I did, it wasn't enough. When it gets really bad, it truly is horrible because it's almost like you can't enjoy anything. Even if you do achieve something you've been aiming towards, you don't get to feel proud of yourself because your brain is telling you 'Right, that's done - what's the next thing? Better not stand around for too long otherwise you'll fall behind.'. And it was really hard learning to live with that, especially seeing as some things had recently gone wrong in my life, and I was blaming myself for them because I perceived that they were taking me further away from the kind of person I 'should' be trying to be.

    I haven’t even watched 5 minutes of this and I think this girl has really needed this for a long time. I sincerely hope this helps her a lot. I’ll be honest, There’s been a lot of things that have bugged me about Pokimane over the years knowing about her but, I have to remind myself this is somebody who’s been put in front of a world wide audience since a young age, she’s going to have issues I don’t fully understand and I just hope this helps a lot. We all have problems, I have plenty myself.
    There was a time about 6 years ago I got upset at every streamer/TH-camr that felt fell in the “fake” category and didn’t treat humans like humans with souls all the time (not saying poki is not human etc. please, try to read between the lines here) I would say things that were too judgmental which is not helping at all and making the problem humanity is facing worst. That problem being too connected too easily without REAL connection to one another.
    I have learnt and grown from this since then. Don’t spread hate, fellow people. Spread love
