Never realised how wonderful this track was. When you watch these movies as a kid, you just watch for the action. As an adult , you realise how awesome the music is
@@pleaserewind295 For sure it's a crime that this film never had a proper score soundtrack release, it so badly needs and deserves one when several much blander scores from the 80s have had good releases.
The jump-off scene where Lambert and Connery plunge into the sea, screaming with joy and exultation, because they know death will not touch them any time soon....Man I never tire of seeing it.
Actually that was like a year before one of them died or less. They were doing that because in that moment they were truly alive. They could feel life around them and experience it in a beautiful way. I don't think The Kurgan ever experienced that.
I've loved Highlander since it came out. I was 23 years old. I have visited Scotland all the way from Essex five times in the past three years to visit my sister who moved there in 2017. In 2018 not only was I privileged to thunder down into Glencoe with this playing at full volume in the car, but a few days later visited Glenfinnan on the shores of Loch Shiel, where Connor McLeod was born. That year I bought myself a McLeod kilt pin in Oban to go on my kilt which I acquired from a charity shop! That's not all - sadly last year my marriage of 31 years broke up and I have made the decision to move to the Highlands permanently so I can be near my sister and my beloved mountains. I am going to buy a new house and on the wall will go the McLeod sword with the inscription 'There can be only One!' alongside it, along with a replica of the samurai. It wasn't the movie that moved me necessarily, it was Kamen's shared score with Queen, which has pride of place on my MP3. I shudder to think what the movie would have been like without it.
Whenever I listen to this song, I unevitably think of my 1y/o son. I think how far I had to travel so he could come to this existence, how all generations preceeding both me and my wife, their experiences and choices in life just come together into this little person, how he will continue on our journey to the future, and how one day he’ll walk alone this planet without us, but carrying us within him. Fills me with tears of both hope and sadness everytime I listen to it. Fun fact the Inmortals couldnt have children
Michael Kamen is one of the most underrated film composers of all-time. Kamen may not be as prolific as the likes of John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Harry Gregson-Williams, James Horner (RIP) & Alan Silvestri to name a few but the brilliantly epic music that he's provided to such iconic movies such as Highlander and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves is unquestionably some of the greatest most unforgettable & iconic film music ever heard👏👏👏👏👏
There Can Be Only One! And the sound of this majestic & mystically endearing song captures that meaning so marvelously, with heartfelt poignancy, sincerity & this ancient, noble passion, one steeped in enduring Clan pride, solemn reflection & primal, bursting inspiration. This tune nailed that powerful essence beautifully! It really sweeps one up & away with its breathtaking timelessness, its upbeat, awe inspiring classical tone, & its sense of wondrous immortality. A song to bring out that long buried Scots Highland warrior from deep within, to move one towards that esoteric realm of sheer exhilarating transcendence, physically, emotionally, mentally & spiritually, with love & exaltation, thus will all future adversity seem less fearsome & daunting, far from insurmountable, & able to be conquered (with "faith," skill, sharpened "steel," dedication & "heart!")! Amazing! As it's been said countless times before, There Can Be Only One!
I live in China. In front of the school where I teach Biology and Chemistry, there's one of the most beautiful lakes I've seen in my whole life. I always put this song to play when I look at that wonderful place.
I'm a metal head, but I love this stuff. I actually bought this soundtrack years ago. The vangelis music from the bounty Mel Gibson movie is awesome too.
best film ever. i watched it for the first time in 1993, i was 17 at the time and i got chills in my spine the entire movie.since then i trully live forever
Michael Kamens score to this relatively unknown movie back in 86 was so captivating. I personally vaguely heard of the movie until my roommate in college played it for me me in 1990. I was Instantly a fan of not only the movie but the soundtrack as well (Queen and Kamen) Even today this particular scene touches me,the whole training montage. It brings me to tears. I wish this movie had more advertising back then, but I believe it still has a great fan base - enough to spark a TV series.
Absolutely love this (and the score in general) . It's a really inspiring piece- the feeling I get is "One life, make the most of it.". As an interesting aside Michael Kamen also composed the orchestra on one of my favourite Kate Bush songs (Moments of Pleasure- well worth a listen).
Best soundtrack ever. It's like painting beautiful colours with sounds... while connor is wacking Kaergen around the head with a temporary metal pipe after being disarmed. Seriously though this is epic and it goes out to my 3 sons and to when we watched this epic movie many years ago!
I love Highlander !!! Of course, the original one with Sean Connery and Christopher Lambert is by far the BEST one !!!! Yes, Michael Kamen's score is AWESOME too, along with QUEEN...(smiles) ...and I am in my 50's and still love it !!!!
Alguém do Brasil em 2019? Esse é o filme da minha vida. Fantástico, espetacular, perfeito são adjetivos q representam o filme mais foda de todos os tempos.
I was hooked right from the moment I first saw that flick in '87 or '88 when it premiered on German TV. I was around ten years old. The sneakers / blue jeans / trenchcoat-look became a constant for my teen years - and I still do it sometimes today. I heard about a franchise-reboot - and I hope they don't do it. It could only destroy the magic of this movie.
This is very powerful music I like all of the music in Highlander especially this song snd Queen who wants to live forever classic movie music at its best RIP Michael Kamen.
The original and ignore the rest. Watch it once every few years. Best alone at a cottage or retreat with storm outside. Fresh and inspiring. You will run out and cut a tree down with an axe. Guaranteed.
How can anyone even try and remake this classic. Against C. Lambert, S. Connery ans Kamens' score you can only bomb at the box office. Some movies/franchises should just be let rest in peace so that we can saviour their greatness!
"How to you fight such a savage?" "With heart faith and steel. In the end there can be only one."

As a kid i did not forget that training scene only because of this music. Good music always triggered my imagination when i was little.
Same with Conan the Barbarian. That soundtrack is a masterpiece!
The score for this movie is underrated af.
When you're kid you look for fun.
When you're man you look for epic...

Incredible. As a new parent i feel this statement deeply.
But "the one" can.
If this music doesn't bring out the good in people, nothing will!
Fantastic, goes to show how much a soundtrack can make a film.
Beautiful cinematography mixed with a beautiful score will get me every time.

Very true! I also agree with that 100%!
He even worked with Metallica on a rock orchestral album. He’s a genius
Yeah! But he lives with Jerry Goldsmith, James Horner, and John Fiddy.
