    It might actually still be WiFi that is interfering with it and making the range less than advertised. Even though there arent many houses arround, there are plenty of people in those cars, most likely each one having a mobile phone, and whenever a mobile phone is away from a known network they tend to get real active trying to find a network they can connect to.

    Signal propagation is a a function of height, among other things. That's why communication/tv/radio towers are always located at higher elevations. This test is useful in that it simulates two antennas (transmit & receive) near ground level - naturally, the frequency footprint is going to be much smaller/shorter. K4QEP

    Ken, my Avata was giving me short range after an update and I noticed that when the video started on mine it was never higher than 30mbps, which I see is the same on yours at the opening of the video. I added the "fcc" file on my goggle sd card and it was now back up to 50mpbs and my range was as normal. Not sure what happened but it seems like my FCC USA version got knocked to a different region during an update. Just curious if you noticed that before with yours.

    You should do this test but strap the avata to a ultra light plane.

    So you were just shy of 2miles, but I wonder if there would be a difference if the drone was actually flying. Not knowing where the drone antenna is, but if it's on the bottom of the drone then yes, reduced range because of the light bar and vehicle would be a problem

  • @Schwing27
    @Schwing27 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Not very good test in my opinion. Usually you’re flying up higher with drones. Not a few feet off the ground. You’ll have much better signal and range if you’re higher up.
    Why not test it and fly it? If the signal starts to cut out, you can do the RTH and it will fly back.

    Speaking of flying ranges...anyone kno what Id need to get my Avata to maintain good transmission between drone and goggles 2 or its Motion Controller, when flying through thick trees, beyond the 150 or 200 meter range [on my own rural lands]? That range is where transmission weakens severly, the HD bars go 1 and then red, and vision is lost or very delayed and confused. We have "Wifi Range Extenders" for our internet range, is there some similar device i could rig for the Avata and its goggles 2? I need to go to about 350 yards thru trees for my purposes. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

      @@rw4669 for a second there I thought you had called me a bitch, and was wondering why I bothered commenting on TH-cam again haha. The issue here is most likely the radio receiver and controller (Dji controller 2) since the O3 Air Unit should be rated for up to 10 km. There are infact extenders you can get for the controller (I believe a commonly used one is from Yagi) but the downside is that it will increase range in one direction at the expense of the range around (so your controller needs to be facing the drone). Another option is buying another RTF drone with ELRS and an ELRS controller but this would set you back 400 to 600 dollars (assuming you DON'T have the Integra goggles, otherwise it will be more). Last option you could try is starting your flight from a higher point, like your roof. It could make the difference for the extra 100 meters.

But the results might be different if the drone was at a normal flying altitude that would improve its line of sight thus improve the radio signal between the drone and the controller. Try the range test from a paramotor That in the right conditions could carry the drone at a higher altitude or meet the visual site requirement. Might be wacky too!

      Agree with this. I think the most restricting factor being the altitude although I bet you could get more distance in a boat going over water. I think an important point about this is that a true distance test would likely be an FAA violation even if they removed the LOS limit. To get the maximum range, you would likely need to increase the altitude too much.

    How is it an accurate test if youre not testing your signal as well as the distance you can travel on 1 battery at drone speeds not car speed. You did a signal test not a range test

    Well he did do the test that maybe 25 above the homepointe so it could be accurate from that low of a height. I'm sure if he was up higher he probably would have got better range better range, which is why I wonder why he just didn't do a range test like that but I guess because he lives in an area where he would get in trouble

      I flow over 3km many times in different places here in Europe in a direct line of sight, and its then when the signal starts to get weaker. Also I have heard and read others flying over this mark. Did you updated it? Also check your settings on goggles where you can change and adjust the maximum height and distance

    • @oxyoverh
      @oxyoverh ปีที่แล้ว

      If your drone can go over 100mph, no the faa won’t care unless you are being reckless and endangering things/people. Of course only if they find out. But if you are being responsible going 100mph with an fpv they won’t care.

      @oxyoverh ปีที่แล้ว

      @@maddercat there are places where you can have fun with racing drones. I’m pretty sure out in public there is a set speed limit of 100 mph but like just don’t post videos going that fast? Lol police aren’t going to come to your door btw. If your given a violation, all of it is usually handled over the phone. Its pretty hard for an faa agent to know if your staying under the speed limit if there is no footage with a drone speedometer.

    Go ahead and make fun of my voice. ;-) but you should get a little more range if you are high up in the air. Also, keep in mind that the Avata is made to fly close to the ground. I am assuming that you get less range if you are flying with the motion controller.
