    There is no requirement for RID in the UK so that approval seems a bit silly. Also, since broadcast RID *modules* aren't legally required on drones in the USA until September 2023 I can't understand why ANYONE would waste their money on one of these things right now.
    Besides which, all drone operators should remember that the FAA's rules are "regulation by consent" and if I was in the USA, I would withhold my consent for RID because it serves no purpose other than to endanger drone flyers in the era of Karens.

    This law is a horrible and shows a complete lack of concern for pilots. They have only ensured that the relationship between remote pilots and the public worsens. Did they ever consider the safety of the pilot. So now folks that do not know anything about the laws have an opportunity to take the law into their own hands and confront the pilot, crazy or not. So, I personally feel unsafe, it will not be long before some armed folks do harm. This should never have been passed. So disappointed. They can’t pass gun control laws (however) you feel about it yet they can arbitrarily burden pilots with additional safety concerns. Ridiculous. Punish those who break the laws, not the entire community! Ugh!!!

    Please verify this info Ken. It comes from Drone DJ. “FAA asserts that Remote ID will help law enforcement and other federal agencies find the control station when a drone appears to be flying in an unsafe manner or where it is not allowed to fly. Remote ID will also lay the foundation of the safety and security groundwork needed for more complex drone operations such as Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) missions and package deliveries.
    In addition to the three drones listed above, the seven other DJI drones that have been approved for Remote ID mandate are:
    DJI Mini 3 Pro
    DJI Avata
    DJI Air 2S
    DJI Mavic 3
    DJI Mavic 3 Cine
    DJI Matrice 30 (M30)
    DJI Matrice 30 Thermal (M30T)
    The drone maker says it will provide firmware updates before September 16, 2023, to get most of its modern aircraft ready for Remote ID compliance. However, some older drone models may require a separate, add-on Remote ID module.”
    It would be great if this was limited to those with a legitimate need to know. We need a group with some teeth to protect our rights. We need a group “Like Gun Owners of America” to sue their asses off!

    The reason why it is jumping around is because it has a simple GPS antenna that doesn't block multipath (you put it on the bottom to) and has no more accuracy then your phone, 15 to 20 feet, also using Bluetooth as a way to send the location of the device to a nearby cell phone could also effect the accuracy. Another fail by a company trying to do the impossible. Everyone thinks GPS GNSS technology is something that sends a signal back to the satellites, when in fact it is merely a receiver that uses the information sent to it by the satellites and then calculates an autonomous position internally with it's onboard computer. I am a land surveyor and know that in order to get a precise measurement using GPS technology it takes TWO GPS receivers and a modem link between them to know precisely where anything is i.e. RTK. this involves having a powerful UHF Radio or a cell phone connection to link the two, similarly, like the 2400mhz 5800mhz of the Drone to the controller, however there is no GPS receiver in the controller! It is highly unlikely that any company is going to go to that kind of extreme. The device would be to large and to expensive. it is also doubtful that the FCC will ever allow Bluetooth to be more powerful then it is now given the number of Bluetooth devices already being used. I think the way to go is to have a flight controller that has a GPS receiver and either a cell phone sim card or Wi-Fi connection, then the location of the drone and pilot could be sent to the internet and known by others. I look for a smart controller in the future that will solve this issue. I thought it was kinda funny when Ken jumped in the car and started driving down the runway..... um there is no GPS in the controller duh

    Why can't they make it like a regular plane transponder? Can karens dial in on airplanes? The whole idea here is to keep the sky safe. That is the bottom line and should be. Weather drones should be put to the same standards as regular planes, the answer is yes. For the safety of all. Not the little toy drones you play with in your back yard at less then 100 feet but for the drones that can go six to eight miles, the ones that can go up well past 400 feet. I am a strong believer in VLOS always. I know that being beyond VLOS is needed and used today and that's ok. Just remember the whole idea was and is to keep everyone safe. Keep up the good work Ken. Your input and knowledge in our hobby and sport is greatly valued and loved. Thank you.

    • @mikebergman1817
      @mikebergman1817 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not really to keep the sky safe.. It's because they can, and there is revenue in regulating things. If it was really for safety, they would do a non biased, non political study on multirotors and dig into the squeaky clean safety standing that we have. Also, they would be able to see that not everything above 250g is alike. We should not be regulated anywhere close to a commercial workhorse type of multirotor. If they spent the effort to understand that we take the safety side of this far more seriously than they assume, they would find out that it behooves us to be thorough and fly responsibly. Any given time we have $600-1000 in the air, potentially never to be seen again, not to mention the places we like to frequent, to fly. Just my thoughts.

All that's truly required is the manufacturer's to write the firmware to broadcast the remote id.. So as you can see this can be done for very cheap with no added weight or devices.. This is about money and big corporations taking over the airspace!!!!!!!!!
