I have been lucky enough to have owned 5 older Hayabusa's and currently run a 2020 ZZR1400. These machines are about so much more than just their speed. The length of them, coupled with the weight means stability that super-sports cannot match, comfort that defies expectations, and while it is obviously fast (as f%ck) it's not so much the 0-60 times that blow you away as the 70-??? that do it for me. Add to that the iconic reputation that comes with this particular machine and it's why I do recommend (if you haven't already) you drive one at least once....

You tease ! waited for your proclamation of love and nothing !! Nice summing up, I've got a few fave reviewer/testers, each build up a true picture of a bike, this was really good way of doing a review. You almost mentioned the lovely whir and induction noise when you mentioned the engine, it sounds so sophisticated, yet a total turbine of a thing. It's between this and the ST 1200RS for me.

I love my Gen 3 Hayabusa. I agree with your list. When they released it i wasn't sure I could afford one but I was pleasantly surprised at how relatively cheap it is. I like the feeling that you're more "inside" the bike rather than "sitting on top" of the bike like most others. Apart from other Hayabusas only zzr1400 have given me that feeling. Looking forward to your in depth review!

The engine sounds soooooo good, it's soothing listening to the reviews. The oil pump and water pump and timing chain, and the transmission gears, give it a silky smooth turbine sound. It sounds like a mixture between a race car and a jet turbine. Omg. It's so mesmerizing. The 2nd Generation bike doesn't have the turbine whine at all, b ut it still sounds terrifying from the intake scream at upper revs.

Cracking video, really nicely done. Couldn’t agree more more, hell of a lot of bike for the money, I’ve never owned and wouldn’t buy a busa, but like 99% of bikers i really have a soft spot for them. I don’t get all the press that say Suzuki played safe, should have changed this that and the other, why.... if you have a winning formula why change it, just bring it up to date with sensible cost effective updates, well played Suzuki. Busa lovers are going to love this one... and me.... I’m just glad it exists.

189hp is quick and you state super smooth so that in it's self is amazing. My experiences with liter Suzi's last few years (2018 mostly) was quite the opposite. It wasn't until i fitted a PC 5 that my fueling especially at slow speeds came right. That was Euro emissions control that made it run so lean it was downright dangerous at times. The riding position appear to throw one not too forward but my near 60yr old arms wrist and back just wouldn't like more than hour's ride i imagine. Which i'd love to do for the thrill alone. That quick shifter looks the goods, my BMW is a little agricultural from first to second but your changes appeared sublime. Totally agree about the dash. Look forward to your extended review not that i'd ever buy a busa, just there must be some dislikes i'd like to here about also.

Love both of my Hayabusa’s. Sure it hasn’t got the modern rider aids but it’s effortless to ride. Plodding around it’s almost an automatic, stick it in 3/4 gear and ride the throttle. Start reving it out through the gears and you break the national speed limit in first, ban in 2nd and possible jail time in 3rd.

Excellent review chap. I’ve not ridden the new one but the old one was smooth and good for comfort, cruising but a little heavy at slow speeds. I do like the idea of it being a high speed (hyper) cruiser and mixing comfort with performance. I would have liked to see the new ‘busa have a more modern display cluster, more power a more modern look but to be fair, this still looks like a fantastic bike. Motorbikes seem to be priced like small cars from 10 years ago these days which whilst being inevitable seems to alienate significant parts of the market unless people want to go down the PCP route and rent their bikes and never actually own the thing, something I’m completely against.

After i started riding my Gsx-R 1000cc I really realised how important is the quickshifter. Because believe it or not the bike pulls sooo hard that a simple move "opening your fingers to pull the clutch in" you'll find that it's not so easy to do. When I ride my other Gsx-R which is 125cc, it won't even come to my mind that something simple like pulling the clutch can be tricky when you have a 200hp bike.

Are you going to ride the Pan America? The new 3rd Generation Hayabusa and the new Pan America are by far my favorite bikes in 2021. They are just so timeless, and have classic vibes, but while also being modern. I see the new Hayabusa and the Pan America, having more aftermarket parts available for them, than almost any other motorcycle. Meaning, the possibilities are endless. You could basically transform either bike into a monster if you wanted.

Thanks Andy. Seems like there might be a new addition to the wardrobe. Velcro and zips are the way forward, can't be doing with laces on bikes, much quicker and easier to get on and off. BTW, thanks for the inspiration to lose weight. 4 stone 26kg off this year, so far. 😁

I was never keen on the first model, it looked bulbous, this one i really like, especially in this colour scheme. Personally, the silver is best. Love that silky smooth engine & the analogue style old skool clocks. The bit that looks odd, is the fork tops, it looks like they are about to fall out the top yoke! EEk! Great review as ever Andy. When the mk1 changed to that newer at the time curved back end and restyled one around 08 , I had a limited edition version , last 100 off the track before they stopped it to the then new shape mk2 version , I rode it very hard , I mean very hard , and remembering on a ride out with ten others , a guy asked if he could have a go on it ,, I jumped on his gsxr1000, and that felt gutless compared to the bus’s a however the brakes were superior on his gixer, I didn’t keep it long , didn’t bond with it and preferred the super blackbird, had 3 of those , but I still think my zx10r would have give the busa a good run for its money , 107 mph in first , cheers shane uk 🇬🇧

It sounds wonderful. The dash - uber nice. Now, you bring up an excellent point; comparing it to the sporty Italian jobs. On one hand I think it's a bit of apple and oranges; two pretty different design philosophies and focus. But as a buyer I would think there is enough over lap that I would consider both. But I've sat on the Ducati's and for me - there is no leg room.
Which segways to: why not make a true sport tourer with an upright riding position, taller front fairing - a bit more real world friendly. Is there even a market for those any more?

The 2nd Gen Hayabusa seems to have a completely different oil pump, timing chain, and gearbox. Because it doesn't have the "turbine whine" of the Generation 3. Maybe it's just due to the angle of the microphone? But it seems to sound completely different than the Gen 2. I want the Gen 3 bike because of that turbine sound.

I had the Gen2 Busa which was an incredible bike, I was lucky enough to tour Europe on it. The only downside was the lack of luggage available for it. I later part exchanged it for a Gen2 Kawasaki ZZR1400 which I have to say was the better bike of the two. Real shame you've never got to ride the ZZR TMF.

A Gen 2 owner would jump to Gen 3 for the fantastic electronic package but how much sense would it make to own a Gen 3 along with a Gen 2 as besides the electronic package its more or less the same bike minus the marginally improved midrange.

Oh look - a proper rear end complete with weather protection - who'd have thought a manufacture could actually finish a bike in 2021! Seriously though, the characteristic Hyabusa tail is a shape optimized for airflow and speed. Love the instrumentation too! Far too many LCD/TFT's look like enlarged smartphones and prove difficult to read at a glance. Must get myself a test ride!
