Just a suggestion when using a hole saw with a pilot: go halfway through from the front, then come from the backside to finish. Besides limiting the friction drag from a deep saw, it prevents a splintering breakout when you make it to the far side.
Running my teleflex today and honked it up by measuring long with the center console 13 footer and ordered a 13 foot cable. Here's hoping it doesn't look like a hot mess
great video - I am redoing a 1984 whaler for my daughter - quick question - why didn't you thread the steering wheel when you had the console out on the bench? it would have saved you from having to run the cable into the steering box after it was installed.
In retrospect for this model of whaler that would most likely be the way i would do it if i was doing this over again. On the 13 whalers especially since essentially there is no room to really work once the console is installed.
Brilliant, this was all they had at my local boat store just before Xmas 21 so I bought it. Nice video of attaching QC cable and pins. Store gave me wrong steering wheel nut & key, looks like it is half inch fine thread? Local hardware store only has coarse thread nuts.
Great videos! Did you move the seat/console assembly forward 5-6 inches? Im considering doing that with my 13' as I'm putting it back together after painting it.
is that going to work on my 14' aluminum, I saw someone put it on their 10' tender, must be enough room to bolt it to the transom on a small boat. The "safe-T" version must mean no feed back I guess
Nice video, but did the same on my little 15' Key West and now the steering turns in oposit direction, when turning right the boat goes left or turning right the boat goes left. How do I fix the problem?
you mind confirming something for me? is the angle on the face of the console the same 105 degrees as the seatbacks? i'm planning to build my own super sport deluxe style interior for my '78 15 footer. keep the videos coming they've been extremely helpful!
@@ExtremeDIYGuy Where did you get the interior from? I'm looking at building one, but I'm having trouble finding plans and dimensions. Looks pretty simple if I had some measurements lol.

Yeah that's good advice, thanks for sharing!
Heck yeah! Your guidance is totally gonna make my install not have me make a huge contribution to the swear jar. lol
I'm glad you found it helpful! Cheers!
Great video. Very informative. Also like the labeling to find each part of the installation process. Thanks for posting this.
Glad it was helpful!

Nice job brother. I’m still in a standstill with my whaler. Hoping to get done by winter
Thanks! I can sympathize, This was my 6 month project and took almost two years to get done! Good luck, get her finished!

Glad it helped

Yes I did, it helps with the weight distribution.
THX Guys.
Your welcome!
Great video! Thank you!
Thanks! Much appreciated!
I’m planning to do this project on my 13. What is your preferred steering wheel to replace the OEM white one?
Completely stainless, Doesnt matter what type or number spokes to me
New sub, thanks for sharing mine's going in tmrw #cheers
Good luck!

I don't see why it wouldn't as long as you have somewhere solid to mount it too.
Nice video
Thanks

I would move the cable to the other port on the helm, I believe that should fix the problem.

I checked earlier and both sides 20 degrees.
Are you sure the steering gearbox bolts were 85 ft lbs torque?...that seems excessive. Great video, though...I did this to my 11 ft Whaler last Fall.
Yes, the instructions called for a range of 75-100 foot pounds.
What length cable or part number did you use for your 11 ft? Contemplating doing the same on my 11 ft T/T.
@@cruzerfj4060 I used the smallest cable avaliable...it was 8 ft from Defender marine.
Did you mention how far your console is from the rear of the boat?
I'll have to check as the boat is currently packed up cornering but I'll get back to you on that.
What was length of the Teleflex cable you used?
If I remember correctly it was 13'
In the video you said 11ft cable
@@JohnDoe-wm9lr Go by what I said in the video. I have crappy memory
