Pirate-infused jazz is something you never knew you needed until today! I played through DKC as a kid, and I think I do remember beating King K. Rool! I actually knew him from DK64 first (the N64 collectathon game that I grew up), so I was used to seeing him with boxing gloves!
Gangplank Galleon has long been on my list of tunes to cover, and I randomly came up with a cool reharm that I thought would be really useful for writing an arrangement of it. Gangplank Galleon's harmony, at least after the opening march section is pretty limited (mostly just staying in D minor), and while that works well for the original tune, I wanted to spice it up a bit! In a Twitch stream of mine, I spent some time comping up with a couple of different reharms for this tune, using both in this arrangement - one is the "main reharm" that the melody and solos are over, and the other is used at 4:24 underneath the build back to the main melody at the end.
Most notably, this arrangement features the most usage of trumpet yet in any one of my arrangements! I challenged myself with some fanfares during the march section of the video, and a whole trumpet solo. It took a lot of takes to get the parts right (and a lot of what you hear apart from the solo is comping of mulitple takes aided by some Melodyne), but I'm pretty happy with how the brass inclusion shaped up in this video. Sometimes, I find it funny how my channel icon is still the white saxophone on the blue background, when in actuality, that's not so much the focus of the channel anymore, these days! Of course, tenor sax will always be my primary instrument, but bringing in other instruments has really helped me get some additional cool colors!

I feel like you can always listen to Carlos' arrangements no matter how you are previously attached to the original.
If you're nostalgic, all the emotions swell up before the *jazz* comes in.
If you know it in kind of a meme way, you have a previous theme to hang on to, and it gives you a bridge to get into what makes jazz sound good to you.
If you don't actually know the original to begin with, it makes you discover some video game which you can take an interest in.
Thank you for bringing us all that passion, interest and personnality in all your covers. And don't hesitate to go further or your original concepts as well! They already sound sweet and I'd love to see what you could come up with if you spent more time on your own themes and the multiple solo loops idea.
All in all good job and thank you as always

you did so much cool stuff in this arrangement, holy smokes. your accordion chord swells (so lush), the walking bass fills during the first sax solo, and the progression on the piano 🥰🥰🥰🥰 it's insane how talented you are, you really did this one justice

Very talented to be able to play all 4 of the main instrument family's flawlessly. I know few people that can play a woodwind and a brass instrument nevermind percussion, string, woodwind, and a brass instrument.

ahhhh, this came together so nicely!! seeing parts of it in stream was really fun, and they sounded lovely on their own, but the finished product just ties everything together. and the accordion! wheew. what a banger.

When I arrange for my students (HS band director here), I like the fact that I know exactly who will be playing the parts and they're capabilities. I suppose that phenomenon is even more prevalent for you, when you're arranging for yourself 😁
