Our 2019 JL Rubicon has been flawless. Started as a daily driver then became a toy as Covid hit.
My wife’s 4xE is fine but the 2 door is the one we’ll keep forever.

I'm impressed with the way the Jeep boys thought out the details. Good review. Don't want to sound morbid, but at 70 years old, and health not so great, a Jeep would be on my kick bucket list. Never owned one.

I would like to see 35 inch tires on it. Metal bumpers with a winch, side steps that act as rock rails, bullet grill insert, tinted windows some lights, for off-roading, maybe some more underbody protection, and a short antenna.
A black decal on the hood with red around the decal would look great going with the rest of the back/ red look.

I have been watching watching your videos on and off for the past few months. Your videos are very informative and the quality is on par with the best. Now that you have the new JL, I really hope that you continue to make more content around it. As a fellow JL owner, videos based on installs and upgrades interest me the most as well as off road and recovery techniques. And based on your past content I am very confident you will make some excellent videos. I am new to the world of Jeeps and off roading, and videos such as yours really help me make good educated decisions on the types of modification I will be making to my own. Thank You for all the wonderful videos you have made and will continue to make. Your new loyal subscriber!

Thank you for this review. Kind of hard to get a good review of the 2 door since folks have gravitated to the 4 door version. (Note: I just ordered a 2 door Rubicon). One intangible benefit to the vivid yellow is that it will be easily seen by other motorists and may help eliminate a collision. In today's world of dark gray, black, and white Jeeps it's nice to see such a beautiful and unique color.

Good job going over everything this Wrangler JL Rubicon came with. I have a two door JK Rubicon from 2013, which I love, but there are some features from this JL that I like that now come from Jeep (alpine system, speaker flushed with the carpet in the trunk, arm rest and the way to open both compartments, garage door opener in visor, LED lights in the front and fenders, plus others). I know most of these can be added but i like them being provided by Jeep. The hood looks great also. Looking forward your upcoming videos with the upgrades.

Nice video! Thanks for sharing this and giving your viewers your opinion on your wife's new JL Wrangler Rubicon. (We have a 2012 JK Unlimited Rubicon. We shipped our Jeep from our home in Springville, Utah to our second home on Molokai. This was in March of last year. We need another Rubicon now for use in Moab.) I'll have my wife watch your video. P.S. I lived in San Diego for close to half of my 70 years. Had a Land Rover parts business there at 3211 India Street from 1974 to 1986. My Rubicon has been much more reliable than Land Rover's products were way back then. Can't say the same, however, for my wife's 2014 Grand Cherokee Overland diesel. That's had a fair number of "issues." Thank you for such a nice presentation on your new JL Rubicon!

Do you run with your doors off a lot? It seems to me that the door checks will be a pain in the butt. I’ve heard off people putting their doors back on and forgetting to reattach the door check and closing the door or the wind pushes the door closed before they have a chance to reattach them. This causes the door check to get jammed up into the door. I take the doors off a lot and taking the door check bolts off and not trying to lose it just seems to be extra pain in the butt.

I love the new JL, mostly because of the new technology in the interior. Check out Apple Car Play/Android Auto. Your JL has it. No need for a phone mount. You can connect your phone via USB, it will mirror some of the functionality onto the big screen, including navigation. I have a Samsung, and absolutely love Android Auto.

One of the best if not the best review out there. I been looking for two door Rubicon review since I would like one in 3 years. I had a 2012 two door sport and it was a blast. I live in San Diego and my goal is to get the two door, soft top since I live at a condo with no place to put the hard top, no leather, no sound system, no paint job, only LED headlights. Compare to the old two door model I'm glad it comes with air vents, the headrest could be lowered. If you want to save almost 4 grand get the two door. i got two kids and they should fit just fit. For crosscountry trips we have the family sedan.
    Your jeep looks great though.

I've had my 2018 JLUR since January. I've just passed the 13k mile mark and I've had zero issues. The quality, fit, and finish have been outstanding. I just did a week in Moab and Colorado, flat out abusing this thing off-road, and it just shrugs it off. It is just as good on the highway. I agree with you about those KO2's. I have them in 315 size and they showed no disadvantage to the mud tires my friend had on his Jeep, on any kind of trail or surface. So far, it is the best vehicle I've ever owned, and has displaced my JK (which I kept) as my favorite.

Now that's a jeep can not wait to get mine in the late summer when money come through iam going for the 4 door version Rubicon i love that colour that really sets it off i am so glad jeep is in the UK and had been so now for many years and iam now going to jeep as i have always when getting a 4 wheel drive have got land rovers as jeeps are ready available and in right hand drive the new land rovers in my opinion have gone for more on road comfort than the old ones suspension travel is very poor on the new models where as jeep Rubicons have in my opinion stuck to and improved off road capability i love the diff lock option that's a must and the beefed up axles plus the infotainment system looks great and i like my music loud and basey and the away bar disconnect to enable more suspension travel is just fabulous they have put a lot of thought into the jeep and in my opinion is a lot better than the land rover discovery and free-lander and sport they are now geared for the house wife school run and shopping days sticking to nice tarmac roads where the jeep says to me i will take the kids direct to school through the fields and hills rivers and streams and i bet the kids would love that going to school that way lol .plus i do think also land rover have suffered with reliability issues lately i know the new one are a lot better but as i am a master mechanic of many years i was always repairing something on my land rovers were as i had a old jeep Cherokee station wagon 4 door for 500 pounds and boy was it in a state the charging system did not work the wiper motor was missing and they wedged another motor in with a piece of wood the tires were very small in diameter and very wide and worn badly you could not go over 40 mph as it would through you into a ditch the lifters on the engine sounded like a very worn sewing machine so i limped it home at 35 mph that's all i dare do travelled 50 miles to home had to keep stopping to charge the battery up was i glad to get home .put it straight into my garage and set to work on it first the wiring re wired all the wiring under the bonnet got a fuse box and heavy duty alternator from a Nissan patrol and wiper system fitted them all in i now had delay wipers plus a 4 speed motor plus now it was charging brilliantly and as you know old jeeps did not have a single relay in the wiring system mine now had 15 plus relays i now could put halogen bulbs on without overloading the switch plus it had day light running lights along the roof line they could stay on without burning the wiring i then stripped the cylinder heads off and the inlet manifold put in a new cam and followers ported the heads put a new holly 4 barrel carburettor on some new headers reground all the valves the bores were still like new no wear at all on the cylinders boy i was pleased so i took the sump off replaced all the shells and oil pump and rebuilt it back up in a week end and she ran like a kitten and the power out put doubled in my opinion once i had done all that to her . i replaced all the shock absorber's including steering damper all the prop shaft cross joints including drive shafts i then resprayed her a nice Mediterranean blue as she was hand painted white and in a mess but when i got her out of the paint shop she looked and drove like new and i never had to do a thing to her for 7 years i kept her she was a bit thirsty on fuel as i was getting 8 miles to the gallon at 7 plus dollars a gallon needless to say i never went on many long journeys in her and boy her fuel tank was nearly 4 feet long so i could of if i took out a bank loan to fill her up which i never did see how much it would of cost me to fill her to the top oh yes the seats were brilliant they were made of Levi jeans it must of been a special addition as i have never seen one since with those seats in and when i got it they were almost black with dirt and grease but many hours of cleaning they looked like new not a single blemish or wear or tear on them it was like driving a rolls Royce the drive was superb once i put on new tyres 37 inch BFGs all terrain sorry about waffling on i hope you like my account on my jeep story just can not wait to get another one as we all know the weather is not going to get any better only worse we get flash floods now in England every year plus flooding so a 4 wheel drive will be a must soon so i am preparing your videos are so good and inspiring another thumps up and i am already a subscriber to your great channel .

In the market for a new Jeep..went and checked out the new JLs. Honestly, I'm not a fan of the sculpted panels that make it look less like the Wranglers with the boxy, straight look on the doors. More like a car/suv look. But I read about the improvements and wanted to check it out. Immediately opening the door, the handle feels incredibly flimsy and plastic. It wiggles and bends easily, doesn't feel like it'll hold up to the kids. Getting in the driver's side, it felt cramped, little hip/leg room as well as headroom compared to my TJs and JKs I was auditioning. I didn't even drive it. I don't want a start/stop button either. Pricing insane.. Now after all the issues, and recalls....Just never good idea to buy a first year run. Good luck.

I have a 2 door 2016 and that extra space in the back would be great. Size does matters guys!

I have a 2-d00r 2016 as well, just fold the rear seat up like he did or just take the thing out completely. My rear seat was only in place for two days after purchase. I have plenty of room. More than a JKU.

some say the Auto Start/Stop does very little,
since modern engines use very little gas at idle and its just a ploy to pad the MPG numbers.
Not mention to extra wear on the starter.
I think it'll be phased out over time.
Also, as for the plastic at the wiper cowling, its all plastic in front of the windshield and the little parts that wrap down the side.
the hood is aluminum, I believe the windshield frame is aluminum. The tailgate inner shell is magnesium and the outer skin is aluminum.
the one thing I found and was surprised it see, the rear tire carrier is plastic...it is on mine anyway.
Great work, love watching you stuff.

Phillip Craggs, I agree on the ESS (Auto Start/Stop). Consumers will tolerate only so much silliness to save gas; especially on vehicles such as the Jeep Rubicon. It will pass; I, for one, won't buy a car that has it.

You will get used to the start stop and how to avoid it. If you come to a stop and barely have the brake pedal pushed in enough to stop but no further then the engine will stay running. Start stop is becoming standard on all vehicles so all these people saying they will never buy a vehicle with it are basically saying they will never buy a new vehicle again. (same with ABS, traction control, backup cameras, etc.) If you live in an area with a lot of stoplights then it makes more sense.

Rear license plate bracket - just wait until you bottom out the rear a few times - I hear the bracket has a tendency to break off.

It just pops off and you pop it back on, of course it is after you walk or drive back 3 miles to pick it up off the trail.

Great review. On my JLU I got the sport S and have since lifted it with wheels and tires along with other upgrades, but I wanted to touch on the gear shifter. I agree with your wife that its nice to have it so smooth but sometimes it is too smooth. For example it is so easy to knock into neutral when off road. I have done it a couple of time and would lose power when going up and hill because of it. It would be nice it you had to click the red button to put in neutral.
    Some other cool features:
Where you have the key I put my iPhone X in there to hold it. Fits perfect!

My JK vs JL comparison (for me, a 2-door Rubicon soft top)
    My JL pros
-possibly the new 2.0 engine (I also like the Pentastar)
-8 speed transmission (much better than JK transmission)
    -quicker throttle response
    -soft top without ‘cross bar’
    -soft top no zippers
    -quieter soft top
    -body color roll bar
    -flat horizontal dash
    -lighter/aerodynamic tweaks = better MPG
    -real metal interior detail
-real hardware (not faux bolts) interior
-more inputs and other interior conveniences
    -larger cup holders
-air vents for cooling under hood
-more rake in windshield (think rock damage)
-doors stay opened, and close better
    -cabin is slightly longer
    -doors remove easier/faster
    -telescopic adjusting steering wheel
    -bigger storage tub
    -stronger and lighter tailgate
    -better hood latches
-easier drain plug access (without needing to move carpet)
    My JL cons
-auto start/stop (I’m not sure how to disable it without messing up other stuff)
    -the bumpers (front and back)
-front running lights on fender flare
-too much digital visual 'noise' on dash (me like simple)
-rear camera (I know I can take it off - and I will when I remove the spare wheel and relocate license plate)
-no hard drive in radio to store music (I like that in the 430 in JK)

Oh man it’s an Automatic Transmission. My heart just broke a little. The “fun” factor of this vehicle could be upped even more if it had been a 6 speed.
