    I love Farming in Vintage Story. I said it and I mean it. I hope this helps you start your first farm

    SUGGESTIONS:
    1. Don't make your farms one block tilled then one block water. Water will provide a three block reach with 75%, 50%, and 25% hydration/moisture level from the water source, both straight and diagonal. If you are doing Open Air, go two blocks tilled farmland to one block water. That still gets everything 75% Moisture, but you're doubling farmland to water.
    2. RABBITS CAN BE FARMED AT YOUR FARM. Instead of a fence, dig a two by two dry moat around your farm. All Animals and drifters (But especially bunnies and drifters) will fall into the pits, where you can kill them at your leisure. Spears work especially well. Isn't a problem for us, as Serifs can jump across a two block wide trench. Bears? Well, they can climb up to three blocks. Just make sure to include a way out for you should you fall in.
    3. Crop Rotation: The soil nutrient mechanics is based on real world growing. The N/P/K (Nitrogen/Potassium/Calcium) are real world nutrient types. Each plant is going to consume one type while helping to build up another type. In the real world, you would rotate in the following order in a yearly cycle: Nitrogen crop, Potassium Crop, Calcium Crop, and then leave field fallow with compost or some other organic matter. In Vintage Story, this order isn't as important, so long as you are planting the same type in the same block. In order to keep track, it's best to divide the farmland into four zones to keep track of rotation.
    4. GREENHOUSES. This is mostly a "later game" for when you can make glass blocks (I.E. Bloomery and some way to get Quartz). In it, you'll want to do a different farm layout. There's videos on this, but I do a 9 by 9 block structure, giving me roughly a 7 by 7 block farm. (Minus the center block for water and two to four blocks for fires in the winter.) You can use dirt or stone blocks for the walls. You'll need a door to get in, but Rough Doors do not work for this. I dig a one deep trench in the parameter for water, except the corners and where I put the dirt. Water has to be on the same level as the farm blocks, so you can't put water under or above it. The nice thing is you can built the walls on top. Then give it a glass roof. Here's the wiki article: wiki.vintagestory.at/index.php/Greenhouse

      Im confused on the nutrient tables. Why is it called N/P/K but its Nitrogen, Potassium, Callsium? Arent the symbols wrong?.

      @@ghislaine1726 N is for Nitrogen, P is for Phosphorus, and K is for Potassium (from latin kalium), similar to the NPK fertilizer labeling convention used in real life. The author of the comment got it a little wrong.

    i would advise a 2 block deep moat around your farm even if bunny's or other animals cant reach your farm they will still try and get trapped, this can lead to getting 1-2 red meat for protein, small hides for future leather working, and a bone or two with 1-2 flint spears thrown depending on class also beware of foxes they will eat the rabbits (and chickens) and will fight back if hurt
    this also apply to wandering rosters and hens if your growing grain crops
    and racoons which drop bush meat but can also drop fat for early bowl lamps

    I've only played 150 hours on the game,I wouldn't plant a farm like this middle to late game,But as a early game set up I can't express it's more important to GET SEEDS IN THE GROUND than to build a nice farm :D ,Nice video good details

    My favorite farm shape is the 8 blocks surrounding a single water block. Its also great because you can fit 4 of those plots in a greenhouse and if its tall enough also have a fruit tree planted at the center late game. Although that is mostly best with terra preta you find as forever farmland. For basic mass farms especially growing flax and sometimes for dormant fields to rotate through other shapes might be fine even with reduced growth rate from inefficient watering. The fact those fallow fields can grow things like dry grass and more importantly horse tail is also important to consider.

    I have everything fenced in, and I still get rabbits on my private world. On Aura Fury Mystic Winds, I have my farms the exact same way. No bunnies.

    • @dracsfantastic
      @dracsfantastic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmm? Have you cleared the land all around the farm? The bunnies can jump! Also, if there is wild grass growing in the farm, bunnies can spawn.

    • @blackfeathercrafts
      @blackfeathercrafts ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dracsfantastic I think the wild grass might be my issue. I’m trying to gather more seeds to fill it up and see how it does from there.

      Use a dry moat around your farm, at least two deep (three if you're worried about bears) and two wide, you can jump that but the rabbits and other animals can't. Keeps your crops safe and it's free food! There's another comment that goes over this. I'd also harvest the grass as soon as it pops up when leaving a field fallow to recover, usually daily.
