I always loved that part. I remember, when she started asking this question, I actually paused for five second and just realized "oh wait, I never thought about this aspect of my character..." and I genuinely opened a document on my phone and started really pondering what my character's backstory would be and what would they answer or if they'd lie about it to Serana. This got me into thinking more about my character when playing Skyrim xD I wish there were more dialogues like that where it deepens the other character but also deepens YOUR character!
I think that’s a cool concept. Also certain actions/missions you complete could give you different conversation lines, etc. I also discovered this by accident when I was doing a practice run before taking live recording and I was very intrigued by it.
That sort of thing (where an NPC asks YOU personal questions instead of the other way around) is sorely lacking in RPGs in general. It's very refreshing when it happens.
The fact that you didn't do it beforehand just goes to show that there is no expectation of depth when you play any TES game beyond maybe morrowind, and let's face it while that game has by far the best writing it's still not exactly the best out there.
@@TheThingInMySink Agreed with that. It's a shame that the RPG side of Elder Scrolls has been left behind over the years. Really a shame as the lore is extremely interesting but the game offers little to no opportunity nor does it encourage roleplaying a character. Skyrim kinda is more just an adventure sandbox game I suppose. I think no one is really expecting Dragon Age Origins level of writing and dialogue options but I do think the game could have some more small lines asking the player about their character's thoughts or backstory from time to time.
Hello, I always check comments on TH-cam daily, though on some occassions my phone has not displayed them or TH-cam alogirthm marked as spam. As per my update video, I am being kept quite busy working on many things, but having said that, I try to put a game walkthrough out there once in a while :)
I love Serana in that she's one of the few characters in any RPG that actually takes an interest in your character's backstory, in turn giving the player the chance to flesh out their own character. Makes the friendship feel more genuine. With most RPG characters, you spend endless time getting to know them and their story, without them ever caring one bit about your own :')
My impression of this video : *Serana has "rare" dialogue options* *Dragonborn traps and corners Serana, then holds a lit torch 2 inches away from her face* Dragonborn : "You will tell me everything, vampire!"
It’s bittersweet, almost. If you pay attention, you notice the Last Dragonborn doesn’t actually have any friends. They have people with a positive disposition, sure, but…they’re not really friends. Until Serana. She’s the only one that actually gets to know them and bond with them. The only one that understands how lonely they are.
Wrong. Faendal is the Last Dragonborn's true friend. He's been with him since the beginning. He offered him the keys to his house when the Dragonborn wasn't even famous yet, but a fugitive of the Empire. He teached him all he knew about marksmanship _for free._ He even offered to be his loyal steward when the Dragonborn built his manor! At least that was MY Faendal. I'm tearing a bit, don't mind me. Afterall he was always agreeable enough, I suppose, for an elf companion.
Serana is easily the most well-written character in Skyrim. One of the only NPCs that I actually appreciated just talking to to under her character. The fact that they made someone who understands the feeling of being so different as to be completely alone made her the perfect companion for the Dragonborn, and you can really tell that by how she talks to you. The fact that she's an unmarriable NPC was the worst possible decision they could have done.
I especially like the fact that she seems so human, and asks the dragon born if he’s lonely. I’ve never even thought about it in any of my play-throughs but I don’t think the dragon born truly ever “bonds” with someone. It just never feels organic, even if you get married. Serana truly cares about how you feel, and in a way that’s one of the most unique experiences in Skyrim, where it seems like most everyone is set to the mentality of bottling it up and acting stoic.
With how many times we say to each other “I’d rather be here with you” and “I’m glad I met you” and stuff like that I’m really surprised you can’t marry her. Truly tragic.
Serana Dialogue Edit (not the Addon), adds in tons of lines of dialogue, and turns her into a fallout 4esque follower, where she has likes and dislikes, and opens up a branch of dialogue for romance and marriage if you're into that.
@@Tattletale-Delta That mod is a must-have... If you wanna ruin Serana and turn her into a teen-like edgy vampire. And Serana herself explains why she doesn't wanna get married. Molag Bal did some uhh... nasty stuff to her
@@Tattletale-Delta marriage? I thought the author of the edit didn't want that as an option so she turns you down like she does in vanilla just with different words.
wouldn't really say its rare dialogue, more like it unlocks once you've spoken and gotten to know serana more, in turn she learns more about you, basically like a real person you chat during moments and know more and more, I like to offer support and encourage her through the DLC, makes the ending when facing Harkon when she goes "you will not touch him/her" more meaningful :)
There's a mod that extends dialogue for her. It adds marriage and over 1000 new voice lines for every situation. Example: doing main story she'll comment on you first dragon kill after you unlock fus, asks if you're ok. It literally takes an already bondable character and basically Inigos her character
I don’t know much about Inigo but I heard he is a character mod and people like him a lot. The mod sounds really cool, I’ll see if I can try it out one day, sounds really dope.
The day I figured out that they share a voice actress was a very happy day for me. I was watching a compilation of Kira cutscenes on TH-cam and something she said set off alarm bells in my head lol
Aww, I feel happy that she feels less lonely when she's with Dragonborn :') "Does it bother you that I'm here?" "I'm glad you're with me." "Me too." Awww 😊
I never picked that option before, namely because others had popped up for me. In my most recent play through, I’m glad I picked that option; it adds a bit of coolness and depth to the Dragonborn while also showing he cares for Serana
It's nice seeing love for Serana. When I was doing the Dawnguard DLC I saw so many people hating on her and calling her bland/useless eye candy. Although I admit she is a pretty character, I never understood how they'd think that.

I wouldn’t say she’s the ONLY one. Miraak from Dragonborn has a lot more depth when you look into the history of his character. In fact, it brings our conflict with him into a completely new light… his motivation for defeating us is sympathetic and (for me at least) makes you completely understand his situation, unfortunately for Miraak, his power hungry and tyrannical nature makes him unworthy of freedom from Hermaeus Mora in my book.

Serana really is a fantastic character. Am replaying skyrim now a lot older and was amazed by how generally fleshed out her dilemma is and how she came to realize that both parents were using her, not only her father. And how she came to terms with killing her own father with the "he died a long time ago" thing was a nice touch.
Such a special character in this game. Absolutely love her, don’t care that she’s kind of weak as a companion. That’s not why you keep her around anyway. Beautiful voice and comments about hating pretty much every place you go to is why you keep her around.

Don't expect too much from Bethesda. You literally meet one of the last living Snow Elves and as far as I remember you really don't have that much of a conversation with him. Probably that's why we'll never get to speak with a Dwemer again. Bethesda probably wouldn't know how to write him.

I would love to romance but not marry her since she isn't into marrying. I mean, you could do something outside of Mara's blessing and just be both friends and lovers.
what dialogues did you pick, and did you travel a lot with her? also does it matter what you say inside castle volkihar when you enter for the first time?
Not that rare for me. You just have to talk to her a lot (I am the kind of player who seeks for all possible dialogues from a character during a gameplay).
Dragonborn: Yeah I'm lonely too just like you Serana. I don't like to rely on others. Meanwhile at the Dragonborn's Lakeview Manor: All his homies, Farkas, Vilkas, Argis, Valdimar, Cicero, Hadvar and all his badass chicks, Lydia, Jordis, Sylgia, Aela and Mjoll partying, waiting for their Dragonborn friend to return and join them. Dragonborn: Yeah nah I'm so lonely Serana, really!
Serana asking the DB if he has someone is totaly implying that she is interested in him! To make her refuse marrying him is a straight up dick move by bethesda. Luckily, there are mods to fix it.
There is also another special dialogue, if you tell her, that you killed your parents. She mention it after you get Auriel's bow, that both of our parents have failed us.
She was hands down my favorite companion and I kept her supplied with the best stuff and it wasn’t even for any advantage. I just really cared about her well being. Bethesda can make you care about a clump of pixels when they really want to I guess
Thanks for the video. Gotta say, I'm actually glad you can't marry Serana. This conclusion would be "too good" for this game. Her personality is so much different from other NPCs, that sometimes I actually considered her as the second protagonist (her immortality kinda reminds me "reincarnation" of the main hero: Nerevar in tes3, or Dragonborn in tes5). And finally, she reminds me an old Friend of mein really much. We used to be in really good relations, but could not be together. She had a long and painful story with her parents, which never loved her, and this background completely forshadowed her life. Being abandoned by the closest human beings in the world, she already could not let anyone into her life. Sometimes I think that Serana's storyline is written from her life with 100% accuracy, excluding only vampirism.
Sucks that the one female character that has the most personality and interesting backstory and would seem to be the best wife is not a marriage candidate. Bethesda why?
Bethesda: Makes a compelling and endearing character with the most realistic chemistry with the player. Also Bethesda: Doesn't make her a marriable npc.
She stated herself because of molag bal raping her to death and forcing her to become a vampire and daughter of coldharbour that she doesnt want to marry, but i understand your point at the very least.
Serana is probably one of the few characters in TES as a whole (not counting online because I've never played it) who actually made me feel anything besides ''haha funny''. It amazes me how TES main stories can be so shitty while their DLC's are actually pretty decent. It's like whenever they write a main story they have a bunch of set in stone criteria that needs to be filled, world threatening event? Check, character starts as prisnoer? Check, character is chosen one? Check, and through these criteria you end up with the same washed up tropey main story that has literally 0 tension, and generates little intrest once you've actually finished it. Then there's the DLC's where it seems the writers are finally let out of their cages and can freely come up with interesting ideas, compare the dull, unintresting and predictable main story of Fallout 4 to Far Harbour, or Oblivion's main story to the Shivering Isles, or Dawnguard and Dragonborn to the absolute train wreck of Skyrim's main story, and you'll see what I mean. Even Morrowinds main story is honestly the least cool part of the game, although it's still better than anything that came after just by the virtue of having Dagoth Ur in it.

Serana: you pulled that out of a trash can last week
Serana: ''But we've been to every single one of your houses''
DB: ''Well you see, they are In the realm of Oblivion''
I always loved that part. I remember, when she started asking this question, I actually paused for five second and just realized "oh wait, I never thought about this aspect of my character..." and I genuinely opened a document on my phone and started really pondering what my character's backstory would be and what would they answer or if they'd lie about it to Serana. This got me into thinking more about my character when playing Skyrim xD I wish there were more dialogues like that where it deepens the other character but also deepens YOUR character!
I think that’s a cool concept. Also certain actions/missions you complete could give you different conversation lines, etc.
I also discovered this by accident when I was doing a practice run before taking live recording and I was very intrigued by it.
in other words it should be more like assassins creed in a way.

Makes the friendship feel more genuine. With most RPG characters, you spend endless time getting to know them and their story, without them ever caring one bit about your own :')

@Icouldntcomeupwithaname1212🤣🤣🤣 he’s such a good homie fr he even let us cuck him💀
Serana is easily the most well-written character in Skyrim.
Serana definitely acts more in touch with the character, I love that. Feels like fallout 4 companions
Stuff like this makes me believe the reason Serana isn't marriageable, is because of dead lines.
Serana Dialogue Edit (not the Addon), adds in tons of lines of dialogue, and turns her into a fallout 4esque follower, where she has likes and dislikes, and opens up a branch of dialogue for romance and marriage if you're into that.

I think the only way is if you tell her "look at what it did to your family", if we're being serious lol
She is literally the reason why I get into modding my skyrim
Serena is such a cool NPC because she actually feels like she appreciates the Dragonborn as a friend, not just an asset or a tool.
wouldn't really say its rare dialogue, more like it unlocks once you've spoken and gotten to know serana more, in turn she learns more about you, basically like a real person you chat during moments and know more and more, I like to offer support and encourage her through the DLC, makes the ending when facing Harkon when she goes "you will not touch him/her" more meaningful :)

She would be the perfect waifu. Why did you do this to me, bethesda?

Also Bethesda: Makes the Dragonborn a friendzoned simplord
Serana without vampire eyes is weird.
Once she's cured her eyes are weird.
I got the same dialog in a random crypt, talk to her 3nough and she'll spit it out I think.
