The block sword clash is extremely low in sound. That's bad. Raise the sword deflect sounds. Not the spinning the sword clash but block the midsection deflect.
Need too much CPU (but the developpment team gave me really good explanations about that) and is a little bit easy in one player mode. I think the interest is to play it on A1200 or CD32 (like a lot of good AMOS games) in multiplayer mode. After all, at the time, Barbarian was already boring alone, but was a so good multiplayer game. A nice first production guys! Keep the good spirit! Maybe a more ambitious and all Amiga compatible project next time? :-)
Not much to it. It needs some game in between these boss fights. A map, exploration, mini-games or something to fill it out. Have you ever tried Spirit of Excalibur or Vengeance on Excalibur? I can't remember which one I had but it seemed huge at the time and I barely scratched the surface. So much disk swapping.
I think it's really just aimed as an upgrade to the original, rather than trying to be too ambitious - Barbarian II: Dungeon of Drax added much of what you're suggesting, but I wasn't much of a fan. I've never played Spirit/Vengeance of Excalbur; I'll look them up 🙂
Barbarian is a Vs fighting game. remember that we were in 1987. It's barely a 8bits games adapted to 16bits computer for sales. On CPC or C64, it was an impressive game offering brilliant gfx and good music. Gameplay was fast and nervous, and control these big barbarians with there heavy sword were just jubilant. To be honest, we had never seen a game like this before. On 16bit computers, this game is clearly less impressive. Just some screens and the two guys fighting, it was average for so powerful systems. But spirit was here and the improvements are nice in this new version. Of course, It would work smoothly on a simple A500 if it was programmed in assembler and not in AMOS.
@@iXien , Yeah, I never played Barbarian. I just always thought there was more to it. But I had a game called Budokan: The Martial Spirit for the Amiga and that was just a versus fighting game too.
@@Bembel81 yeah, it's a _versus fighter_ a very familiar classic concept, asking for exploration and maps is bizarre. Two or so new moves would be nice though.
Read my review of the game @ www.vintageisthenewold.com/review-barbarian-amiga-aga/
Really nice review. You're right, I tested it yesterday and it's slow even on a standard A1200. Opponents are less smart than in the original one too.
That creature biting that guys head off is hilarious.
Love the slap on the arse
This actually looks like a proper Amiga version. The original looks like a lazy C64 port!
exactly that.
Two sneakes facing over a black sun
One thing I never understood about this game and that's the roll move. How ridiculous you would you look if you did that in real life :D
I think it would be a sure way to end up dead 😉
I´m absolutely sure it would be more like puke fest than mortal combat xD
Another great walkthrough.And decapitations,nice.
Much easier to chop heads off in this version 😉
The burned body is a nice SF2 ref-furnace
Never know they did a plus version

Accidenti che bello! E io che da ragazzo giocai tantissimo a barbarian sull'amiga500 questo era decisamente migliore! Ma all'epoca non lo conoscevo!
I had another version where you only played the same character which looked exactly like you only other colors lol
Is there a HDD version available also?
Did they steal the burning body sprite from Capcom Final Fight?
Mark of the Doom Slayer in 6:38 ? Huh??
Where to find this game to play...is there original copy or web to play it??
Where can I download this game

y tambien los marcos del personaje ardiente! Lo mismo que Streetfighter despues uno Yoga Flame! :)
Destroy your enemies, see them driven before you, and get some ass :)
in the comparison picture, in the site review, sprites look much smaller than the original?
The playfield screen area in Barbarian+ is smaller than the original 🙂
That Street Fighter II spriterip takes me out of the video...
Totally agree. I spotted them at once and... yuch. Cheap move.

Dude, this is a Fighting game like Street Fighter

Does this remake support 2 button joysticks?
I'm not sure - what I can say is the controls are identical to the original.
muito interessante esse jogo
Not sure why but the animations seem a bit like gobliiins to me? :)
Yeah, the models too. The guys in the background look very much like from Gobliiins.
Looks great! But its running on 040 ;)
I was running it on an 040 - it's very slow on the A1200, something I noted in the review :)
@@AL82RetrogamingLongplays I was hoping it would run on the 68k 😊
@@AL82RetrogamingLongplays btw i read your review, thats how i know its running on 040...
Yeah sorry - it was meant to say 040 in the comment :)
Where I can download this game??
Whaaaaat?
C64 version looked better than this because (due to the limited color palette) it looked more realistic and less campy.
There is only ONE true Barbarian game. On Commodore 64. Nothing beats it.
the CPC version beats it. We have the musics and no slowdown during the game like the C64.
Horrible sound effects.
