I forgot to add the Mexican bomb thingy, sorry about that. Like I said in the video description of the longplay on my own channel: A Mexican throws a bomb if I step into his territory. I recorded it so many times that I forgot to include it :). Hate when that happens. Happens when I redo parts over and over again until I get them the way I want, so I see them over and over again. Then sometimes (like this time) I just think I recorded it again and continued on. Oh well, sucks, but meh. The longplay was already recorded, encoded and upped. Didn't feel like redoing the process. I always do extensive research before doing a longplay to include as much as possible. Checking different versions, even the difference in game files, checking different cheats (not to use during the longplay of course, but in another video, some are fun), reading reviews... and then include as much as possible in the longplay. Stuff I don't include are in an 'extras' video instead (this longplay doesn't have one), and video description. Sometimes I mess up and miss something, even though I knew about it :), but it's very rare. Oh well..... shit happens :P
Games like this were the highlight of the computing era of the late 80s, early 90s in my opinion- originality, lots of talent and care taken with the graphics and sound, humour produced with both of those tools to good effect, and a variety of imaginative game modes strung together. The sort of games that left young players a little bit unsure as to whether they were doing it right (because it was not formulaic, like a straightforward platformer for example), but having fun all the same. I remember being sat in front of a computer playing this, usually with mates or just me and my brother, frantically trying to manoeuvre the armies about on the battlefield to avoid being shot.
It is easy to forget how far graphics came in the last 30 years. But The amiga was a waste. Highlight of computing tech? The Sega Genesis came out in 1988, cheaper and better than the Amiga. I dunno how any one would keep buying the Amiga stuff. Granted the better games were mostly 2D...this was 2 but at least it let you go down, as opposed to things like Mario. But even the Gameboy was instantly better than every game I played or seen on the amiga, and thats 1989
And Hostages, Golden Axe , Final fight , ABP , Stunt car racer , 4x4 super off road racer and many more!!! My schoolfriend introduced me to The Amiga. Happy days 😎
to think there was fools who spent $700 for a game console that had terrible games instead of paying $189 for games people knew as a whole that would survive. Most didn't even know about the Amiga until many years after it had crashed and burned. And even worse, people who still spent that money 7 years after it came out, when there was enough proof that the amiga sucked. playing the amiga in 94 is like watching the lion king on VHS in 2024 and still thinking VHS is gonna succeed. The rich people got the Amiga while the poor people got Sega and nintendo. And then the amiga people were wondering why people played games since their games were so boring. Turned out it was just the amiga and any one who put stock into the atari just proved even further, they had no idea what they were doing. But it makes me happy that theres a generation gap between true fans, and people who were just bored and rich.
Flip me, i remember playing this game, especially the memories of the intro, mouse clicking on the photographer's posterior. Lol Ohhhh yeeeah man. Great game, great memories of playing it. 😀👍👍👍
This was one of my favorite Amiga games. My go-to game to kill time on my Amiga 1000. Probably played it more than any other, and I had boxes and boxes of pirated games.
The only annoying thing about this game was that the computer could move the infantry, cavalry and artillery at the same time. The player could only control one at a time.
It was easy to beat the computer in battle. Same technique each time. I guess it was a badly needed hack for the computer, and it still didn’t give it an edge!
My Dad & I would spend hours on this game & "Sensible Soccer." Even though he was bloody hopeless at them. They were some of the best times I ever had. If you're watching, Dad. Thanks for the memories. Till we meet again, R.I.P. 🙏
I enjoyed reading them as a child. I have almost all the volumes. Except the new ones. The game was available in a remastered edition for iPad. But not anymore. I think the woke lefties got it cancelled. Probably because it contains the confederate flag and you can play as a rebel. Thereby winning the civil war for the south and changing history.
in the 90s? you guys still played this in the 90s? it was outdated in 87....when a gameboy was better than a desk top computer....you either know you backed the wrong horse or....somethings very wrong with people. buy 1 of every game station until playstation/64 with a couple good games each and still have money left over....or buy one amiga and no games. Only the Rich and ignorant would have went for the amiga.
Love this game. Probably the first strategy game I've ever played. Avid collector of the comics, and the music + sound effects are ingrained in my mind. Did you know they made a rework of this as a game app? Well...sort of.
A true classic. Shame it's easy to beat after one gets used to it. I guess it's more fun to play against a friend. Once in a while I still play if for a bit on the emulator and always do what I originally did in Amiga-day - move around the map and intentionally not attacking the CPU side, allowing it to get stronger armies - then the game experience is a bit longer and more challanging.
Leider geil!
I LOVED this game!!! Amiga 500/1200 were one of the best gaming PCs ever! They just don’t / didn’t get enough attention or love! I had a PC back then, much more expensive and it was horrible for games when compared to the much cheaper Amiga. A shame it didn’t survive longer
OMG. This game was sooooo good. I totally forgot I ever played it. On the PC version if I remember correctly there was a couple of ways to kind of cheat in the battles - I think the cannons were kind of overpowered so you could basically destroy everything with them if you got good at the acarde part and you managed to take out the other guy's cannons - I have a hazy memory of basically needing to take out his cannons with my cannons then destroy the bridge with the cannon and it was all over because I'd just be able to pick them off. But I remember it being so much fun ghough.
I forgot to add the Mexican bomb thingy, sorry about that.
Like I said in the video description of the longplay on my own channel:

Can you recommend any other games from the era?

Sid Meier's Pirates! is prime example of mixing game modes. One of best games ever made.

Jesus, incredible nostalgia. I used to play this at my friends house back in the mid-90s.
Ditto. This and speedball 2
And Hostages, Golden Axe , Final fight , ABP , Stunt car racer , 4x4 super off road racer and many more!!! My schoolfriend introduced me to The Amiga. Happy days 😎
Same. Good times.
Same here, early 90's with my mates amiga 500. I was so envious because all I had back then was C64 with cassette tape
Same, I used to play it with a neighbor.
i remember this as if it was yesterday.. on my amiga500+... 30 years ago

Exactly the same, saw this comment and felt like it was my comment 😂
Both this and the NES version are fantastic! This game is a must own for either Amiga Owners or NES owners. Its that good.
Thanks for the upload. I played this game a lot back in the days.
Yeah, so did I. Was amazing fun with friends.
I absolutely loved this game as a child. 😅😅😅brings back so many memories
Played this on the NES back in the early 90’s with my Brother. Those were some good memories.
Amazing game! Played it almost every day back in the early 90's. Just top stuff!
This was one of my favorite Amiga games. My go-to game to kill time on my Amiga 1000. Probably played it more than any other, and I had boxes and boxes of pirated games.
3:11 I was waiting for this.
Me too.
The soundtrack of this version was brilliantly crafted. :D
Just played this on my Amiga500 🥳 very surprised it worked after 30 years in my loft, one of my favourite games along side cabal
I played this when I was 9 years old, now I'm 23, thanks for the good memories:)
Da schwebt man in Erinnerung. Ein Kult Spiel, allein die Musik.
Das Spiel hat mein Opa mit mir zusammen auf dem NES gespielt, die gute alte Zeit 😢
I loved this game especially because I didnt really understand it. But very good memories anyway.
Loved this, wings of Fury, hostages and Persian gulf inferno
id play this after school all the time coup,, man it was a blast
I loved this game as a kid, even though the AI cheated by moving all units at once :-P
Yeah, but the AI cheated itself too by being awful. Like at 18:48 when their cavalry gets stuck in the bottom of the screen forever xD
Thats not a cheat.
AI, like my microwave is ai? Lol 😂
It was possible to overcome with a little practice. And accurate cannon fire
The only annoying thing about this game was that the computer could move the infantry, cavalry and artillery at the same time. The player could only control one at a time.
Thats thrue, but how u want controll 3 units once ? To do it u will need 3 remote controls and 3 hands 😂
@@GrazynaBujda I don't. Just make the computer only able to move one at a time. Not really rocket science, is it?

I literally had no idea how to play this game but i fucking loved it
I played this game all the time such as brilliant game loved the arcade elements and the sounds!
One of the best and funniest games i have ever played. Great memories.
God I loved this game. Played it as a kid over and over again.😀 44 now.
This soundtrack is dope, lets pllllls see it live
All of it
I remember being so excited that there were actually several troops on a field at once, in formation even! Good HS memories.
Basically the first ever total war
There was also Sword of the Samurai, which was basically a version of Shogun before Shogun. Not sure whether that or this came out first.
You can tell that this game is pushing the Amiga's graphics and music capabilities to their limit! What a feast for the eyes and ears!!
Les tuniques bleues is a fantastic comic book
Retro Land Bande Dessinée*
Hérétique ;)
Agree, have all of them at home :)

The great thing is that you can still play it and online too! Check out Amigalive.
I loved this game, totally forgot about it. Thank you!!
Omg the song is so familiar, it's like going back in time 😂👍👍👍
The opening music sequence is incredible. Beethoven would be proud.
Awesome game. In two player whoever had the joystick was usually the winner lol, those cavalry would carve up the guy using the keyboard keys
Hahahaha! So true! Joystick cavalry was seriously OP!
incredible fun with two players
I wonder why humanity hasn't stopped producing games after North&South. This is absolute peak of the gaming. Nothing more is necessary.
I feel pong with civil war "skin" would be more interesting than this game lol
Very imaginative gameplay and great animations. I had no clue how to play it back in the day though.
I forgot about this game. It was so much fun. And the music 🥰🥰🥰☺️
Timeless masterpiece, fun to play in 2023
Never seen anyone complete one of those train or fortress run-against-the-clock missions before. Good work.
Love this game. Probably the first strategy game I've ever played.
Avid collector of the comics, and the music + sound effects are ingrained in my mind.
Did you know they made a rework of this as a game app? Well...sort of.
Update, they made a remake that's on console and steam. Unfortunately they replaced the train and fort capture with really bad FPS gameplay.
Damn as a 6 year old i never understood this game, but the tune was still in my head and the graphics

The music is awesome
I had this game on floppy....8 months before I got an Amiga A600.
The first game I played and one of my fave memoriee
Fantastic game. It was damn hard as a kid though. It made me a decent player though. One of my favorite games of the amiga generation
I used to play this with my Dad when i was a kid, hadn't a clue how to play but man i killed it on the train/fort sections.
thanks for the history lesson, this game is funny and looks fun as hell, never heard of it though hehe
