  • Hey guys, JD and Seth back with another video demoing a Grasshopper 729. This bad boy has a 29 Horsepower Vanguard Big Block, along with a 61" deck. I bought Seth's Snapper Pro, so he is looking for another mower for the company, meaning that we will be demoing some mowers for you. In this case, the 729 Big Block! This mower is great for use both in open fields, and believe it or not, in neighborhoods! The grasshopper comes in both gas version, and a diesel which is a 72" deck. An awesome feature about this mower is that the front mounted deck is detachable, which allows you to equip it with an aerator, snowblower, sweeper, ect. The front mount deck has an electric lift and is articulating, which means less scalping, as you can see in our video. When you watch it, I know i accidentally typed 'spripe' instead of 'stripe', so don't judge me for that, lol. 😆 Enjoy the video.

Question, why did you keep lifting the deck and disengaging the blades and reengage in them every single pass just curious because out of the 27 years of mowing grass I’ve never seen anybody do that before

H Silva, we were given a demo from Lakeland Generator, so if you can find a Grasshopper dealer and ask them for a demo, they should give you one. Finding a dealer though can be a challenge since there aren't many out there, at least that's the way it is in our area. If I were you, I'd google Grasshopper dealers near you. Hope this helps. :)

Just bought 2 of the 725D’s after owning 2 Woods for bout 10 yrs then owning 2 of the 729 grasshoppers gas for 8 yrs. All of course have been front deck. So, I’d say I qualify as somewhat of an expert or at least a very experienced owner. They claim to have more “torque” than the gas models which no one fully understands or can explain. I do know what the definition of torque is. They have 4 less hp than the 729’s. Looks like to me the lower hp cancels out the higher torque. Have to go up to the 900 to get more hp but they’re to large/wide/expensive for my purposes. I have noticed that the 725D will bog down quicker in really thick/dense grass than the 729 gas did. The gas 729’s always powered right through it. Same size 61” decks. The diesel does use less fuel in the same amount of hours but diesel is higher priced so that’s not such a big deal to me. Plus as highly expensive as these mowers are, if you’re worried about a few dollars in fuel, you need a cheaper mower anyway. I am not a commercial lawn care co., just a lot of acres to mow. The diesels, being water cooled, are also very sensitive to radiator and it’s cover getting covered and clogged by grass clippings and over heating. When very dry and after 4hrs or so have to stop and clean/wash off radiator and it’s cover or machine tries to over heat. Takes the two mowers at least 5hrs to completely mow our property so that can be a pain. Got to keep a really close eye on the coolant level. I am really trying to like these new mowers but I’m afraid I might should have gotten the gas 729 again especially since I’m stuck with the two diesels now for bout 10 more years. The gas was also considerably cheaper. Pros: they do start very quickly/easily at least in warm weather, uses less fuel, mow very smoothly and evenly as all their models do I’m sure, fuel gauges electronic and much easier to see on console, added the expensive flotation seat option which I think I’m gonna really like so far. Cons: more expensive, needs the extra 4hp in the 725D model, more maintenance due to water cooled, fold down roll bars need to be lower, belt cover on deck easy to bent and you will step on it though not a step, fuel tanks since their beginnings have been easy to puncture by obstacles if not careful, maybe motor is a bit louder, discharge decks seem to be very prone to grass/residue build up(maybe because they’re new but have had more than once had to stop mowing and wash out under decks, thank goodness for the power raise decks). So this is my observation of the 725D, so far. Wish me luck. Still, they’re great mowers.

@@chrisd.9745 well, I wound up returning those to the dealer and getting the 937g3’s. They understood completely and agreed the over heating due to clogging radiators was a problem. Dealer was was great to allow me to return these and upgrade without losing money plus allowed me $500 credit in service dept. These 937’s are beasts and cadillacs of the industry in my opinion. Duel fuel tanks, wider tires, more power, fuel injected, power deck with deck raising feature on handle bar, etc. So happy with these machines and Grasshopper customer service and engineering. They’re the BEST.
