So a grasshopper deck will not free float like a walker deck?Free floating for quality of cut is almost mandatory.rolling forward float and side to side.I do like, and always like the rear wheel style machine for tight turns and near zero burns around objects.

How much did that model run ya? I'm wanting to demo one. I've always ran zero turns but would like to try a front mount mower to get under trees better.

Do you still have mower? Would you recommend it? Would you buy another one?

      sam,
Yes I do have the Mower
If you do not have a lot of hills to mow it’s a great mower. I will purchase a new Grasshopper at the end of the 2019 season. Great mower with great support. The only issue I had was the clutch went out at 1,800 but was replaced under warranty.

People saying Grasshoppers clump badly in wet grass have me scratching my head. My 329, 325, and 725K2 all will out cut my Turf Tigers in wet or dry grass.

Joe, do you have 34 series deck. Or the 34r (combo deck). We have had problems with cut quality with the 34r. What blades do you run on the deck? A response as a quickly as possible would greatly help us if you can! Thanks

34 series. I also do some bagging so I run highlift blades.

main thing is that you do 0 damage when you turn around. That is why it is faster.

Do you by any chance know how to lift the Manuel deck on a 96’ 720k Grasshopper?

      Team Metal
      Yes, I will purchase again.
Great mower well worth the money. With the wet summers over the past 5 years this mower has proven itself over and over again. Any mower will cut dry August grass this mower handles wet spring grass all season long.

No one ran them in this area when I purchased my Grasshopper Mower.
Now I have a dealer 5 blocks away.
      He sells 10 to 15 a year.

Just bought a used Bush Hog Zt220! Great machine! I like it far better than my John Deere Z920M until you need to go up a hill. Bush Hog does better going backwards up a hill, but it really isn’t efficient that way, but for everything else the front mount dominates! Same size deck as well, both 60”. My Bush Hog has a 25 Horsepower Kohler Command opposed twin commercial engine. It undoubtedly has more torque than the Kawasaki. Same seems to be true with my single-cylinder Kawasaki 14 horse vs my Kohler Command 12.5 horse, and both are John Deere riders with 38” decks.

i just bought the 900D after using a 618 for 20 years both front deck, with the right blades you will not beat a grasshopper.

Grasshopper decks are not very free flowing and they WILL clump with wet grass.
It's too bad because other than that, they are pretty solid.
The deck needs to be HIGHER and more free flowing, with a better exit chute design.
The exit chute is prone to clogging,
I am going to re-work mine this fall. I have some very solid mods I know will improve the
clipping flow and prevent clumping and clogging.

Tod Wilkinson I don't know about comfort, but I had 2 older Scag 3 wheel machines, (not zero turn) and I think the Scag decks were/are the best performing I've seen. They are high, open, chute placement seems well thought out to prevent clogging. The grass could be 2" high or 8" high and they cut it all very even nice looking cut. My grasshopper leaves uneven patches if the grass gets to be too long, like over 5". The way the grass grew this summer it was always long. And as I watched the grass hang on the chute rear corner....a lot, ( dryer grass as well) it frustrated me that the people at grasshopper engineering couldn't design the deck better. Seems OBVIOUS! There's 200 brands out there who knows which is best? I cut only about 2 acres of my own, but honestly if I was doing it as a business, I don't think I'd be running Grasshopper mowers.

I have a Bush Hog Zt220, and it is a extremely high quality cut! You pretty much have to wait until it’s dry though, or you’ll get stuck. Even with lug tires, it isn’t a great machine for hills. I have a John Deere Z920M and it is better for hills by far, but I like the Bush Hog much better!

Don't have that problem at all with my 930D w/ 72" deck. Mows thru anything, wet or dry and leaves a very nicely manicured cut. This is my second GH and with any luck will last me the rest of my life.

For a spare machine, I bought an old 721K with a blown motor - to repower with the 22 HP Predator. The machine was old enough that the previous owner had worn out the original GH deck and had replaced it with a Woods deck (54"). At first, I thought the GH and woods decks were the same, as the tractors were the same. Not the case! The Woods deck is noticeably better job! Dry/wet/inclines, thin grass, thick grass, short, tall - it cut it all and never plugs! The woods deck, as near as I can tell, is deeper and has better flow from one side to the chute The structure and mechanism is simpler and more robust.

What style blades are you using? Did you try switching styles? I've have never had ANY clumping issues thru wet grass while running hi-lift blades.
