This is such a great movie! I knew mom would love it! re: the anachronistic music...the director said that he wanted to convey the excitement that people would really feel, how medieval people might feel getting ready to watch a joust or dance to the "latest" song, It definitely made it so much more memorable and fun than a typical story of that time.
The reason they used modern songs and people sung with, is to give a modern audience the idea of how these events were, the energy and the excitement. Damn, another comment did it before me. Oh well, it's my favorite method from the movie.

It is a great shame that those that give their all to bring Joy & Happiness to others all too often fail to find it for themselves. I've heard that; the stress of always appearing happy or 'all together', the anxiety of wondering if they were good enough or did enough & the fear of rejection if they fail to live up to the high standards they set upon themselves leads to depression, mental illness or drug use that breaks them one way or another. The only compensation I can offer to their families & for myself is, "The Brightest Stars live the shortest lives but they shine through the night the longest"
Heath Ledger, Shannon Sossamon, and Mark Addy would reunite 2 years later in 2003 to star in a movie called "The Order". It's not a great movie but it was interesting seeing those three together again.
I adore this movie. The soundtrack is great, but I loved it even more once I heard why the director did it. He wanted the music to give the feeling of modern sporting events so that the audience would be hyped. This was done to show how people of the time would have felt about their music and sporting events. Using accurate muaic for the time would not resonate with the modern audience and give the right feel. It was a really cool and smart decision imo.
There is a Shannyn Sossamon movie called Wristcutters: A Love Story that is one of my favorite movies to watch. Not super popular but fun to watch and a very odd setting.
This and 10 things i hate about you made me get a man crush on Heath not gonna lie his smile is so endearing and and see joy and love it in will forever be someone I will miss and wish we got more of him to see in movies
I always thought both the blacksmith and the assistant girl were more attractive than the main love interest. The blacksmith is clearly the best though.

I only realized the last time I watched a reaction to this, that the blacksmith Laura Fraser was also Lydia in 'Breaking Bad'.
