This is one of my favorite movies, even before I became a single father. Every Father's Day, I watch this for all the fathers who struggle but don't give up. One of my greatest fears is my son leaving before me, and that line Denzel says always stuck with me:
"I am not, going, to bury my SON! My son is going to bury ME!"
I would do anything for my son just like Denzel's character. And when I go, I'll leave happily knowing I raised my son to be a responsible and dedicated man himself. Glad you enjoyed this film.
P.S. I don't know if this was mentioned yet, the "For Sasha" dedication is for the director's daughter.

As a dual citizen (American - Israeli), when I moved to Israel, that’s something I had to get used to. Universal healthcare. Because it’s nothing like the US system. And I’m sure it’s very close to Canada‘s healthcare system.
It’s a sad statement when you’re relieved you don’t have to worry about health stuff to the extent you did before.
I have a chronic health condition so it meant a lot.
But this movie is very much a critique on the American healthcare system.

    • @NetanelWorthy
      @NetanelWorthy 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

@@Ennoenno02 The pros outweigh the cons. Yes, you’re paying for it with your taxes. It’s not free healthcare. But the point is, it’s there for you when you need it. I’m not sure if you’re an American or if you know anything about that system, but just like they are talking about in the review, And what scene on the movie, if you don’t have the money, you don’t have the money. Which means if you have something life-threatening, it’s just business. There are literally so many people in the United States that are in debt because of medical related costs. Look at all of the places that have universal healthcare across the world, and look at how many of those people are in medical debt.
Obviously, as stated, there are drawbacks, such as waiting times and things of this nature. And those need to be fixed. But I would much rather be able to have something treated in an emergency so I don’t die, versus die because I don’t have enough money.

Yes! Unfortunately, in America at least, lots of people are afraid to be marked as donors. I've seen SO many people that believe that doctors and nurses will let them die so that "they" can take their organs to give to rich old monsters who don't deserve to be saved.
I have it marked on my driver's license that I agree to be an organ donor. More unfortunately, at this time, I am not allowed to donate anything because I have MS and I guess they're afraid that my evil immune system will transfer over? No one has explained it to me. Guess I should Google it someday.

I'm from Scotland, and this film was my first realisation that USA and, for that matter, other countries didn't have the NHS or something similar. I'll never understand how they think it's ok for some insurance clerk to make life or death decisions. NHS isn't perfect, and we may pay a little more in taxes, (though still less than what most pay for insurance), but damn it's worth it.

However that's not the point, yes, healthcare should be a right far moreso than a right to bear arms! I'm from UK and we have the NHS which we pay for in our taxes, which we're happy to pay because we don't go bankrupt if we need unexpected medical care.

Man it's been a while since I've seen this. Probably Denzel's most underrated movie? For whatever reason then, and now I feel like it doesn't get talked about as much as his other ones. Anyway, now that I'm older this film really does harp on the American health care system, and why well...in my opinion is a complete trainwreck. I don't live stateside anymore, but when I did it's nutty how anyone can be on the hook for financial eternity for getting something as simple as a papercut. Glad I got the F out. You guys mentioning the USA Healthcare system and this movie is so depressing. Healthcare should be a human right and not based on income.
This is why i am so proud of the UK healthcare system, the NHS. Although its been guttered and slowly privatised by successive governments but at least the principal is kept the same.
Plus what threw me off is how much are these hospitals and insurance companies are paying for admin costs to hire pen pushers who go through a fine tooth comb finding any small loopholes, undeclared admissions, previous conditions etc that could be spent...oh, I dunno...the actual healthcare. Mad!
I hope your government over in Canada are keeping the healthcare true to its intentions and spirit.

i adore this movie, and always have, because it opens up the discussion of healthcare in the US and it's mishandling of preventative efforts, as explained why the sons heart issue wasn't ever previously found and treated..
however.. i have to say i don't like the glorification of forcing an immediate heart becoming available through holding an entire ER ward hostage, despite having actual intentions of using said weapons. Esp when there IS a List of thousands of people, including other children, waiting just as anxiously for a healthy heart for god knows how long. Don't get me wrong, i get all the good fuzzies when this movie is directly making us understand and empathise with this particular family.. but let's not forget the thousands of similar loving families, some on the brink after much longer periods of time, to also receive a B+ heart. Who would that heart have gone to, if not this son? maybe another child who had been suffering for an even longer time, and even closer to death surrounded by a mourning family.
idk. I appreciate the much needed discussion of the issues we have in our healthcare system in the US and we need to make changes.. ESP when it comes to preventative measures we've already created for these exact situations. That's being reckless and unforgivable. But the immediate donation due to the rioting created scoping in on this one family in order to not just get on the list, but get pushed all the way to the top as well.. ? I'm not as much a fan of making such dangerous last resorts be cheered and awarded for.
I would suspend my disbelief as it's just a movie, but considering it's based on true "events".. Just my opinion.

I just wanted you to know that I absolutely LOVE your movie reactions! Can't wait for the finale of Sopranos. (although I really dont want it to be over so im super conflicted!) A comment about the health care system in the US....Im always intrigued when people in Canada, the UK, New Zealand, Australia, etc say they have "free healthcare". A closer examination would show that not only are you "paying" for your healthcare....indeed, you are ***paying through the nose*** for it. Just thought I'd throw that out there for you to investigate, if you posess the time and curiosity that prompts you to do so. ;-) This movie was an extreme case. Many many many US citizens have adequate healthcare. They work FULL TIME jobs in GOOD companies....they are not part time workers in blue collar jobs as was depicted here. So, when you were pretending that every US citizen lacks proper healthcare I just thought that was really unfair....just my opinion. I wager that if you polled every single citizen of the US and said, "If you were granted free healthcare by your government but they had to raise your taxes to the EXHORBITANT AMOUNT that Canada and the UK pay, would you be on board?" .....I believe the answer would be a resounding and overwhelming ***K NO! ;-) Of course, the US had a very tumultous beginning. Fighting for everything, right from the get go. Our founders were not a bunch of people born with their hands sticking out...."Gimme gimme gimme". They had to fight for everything, and they had to work hard for everything they wanted. That may have something to do with the US's mentality today of encouraging people to be go-getters, to be independent, not expecting free healthcare or free education or free anything else...other than great opportunities....which are always free! ;-) Just food for thought! Take care, you guys and have a great week! :-)
