    My favorite moment of the movie is when Red finds the money Andy left him under the rock, and then frantically checks around him for anyone who might have seen. The man is sitting in the middle of an empty field with only the sounds of birds and bugs, but prison will shape a man.

      This was a two or 300 page short story and almost nothing was cut for the film, it just shows you how much screen time is needed to fully adapt a book to the screen. The most major change from the book was there was many wardens over the course of Andy's incarceration, not just one. For the movie it makes sense to have one since that allows you to have a common antagonist for the entire story.

The most amazing thing about this film is it wasn't really a box office success, but when it went to VHS Video rental the word got around and it became an utter cult classic watched by millions, it is one of the the greatest films of all time. Great reaction guys we could see you were genuinely moved by it. Incredible to think also that it was only a Steven King short story called Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption and became this epic film. Red and Andy, two men who would never have met in life outside of prison. Different skin color, different education, place of residence and "class" in the sense of above and below". All that is so infinitely "important" to us humans. They meet each other and quickly become friends, as they recognize each other's true worth. By breaking out, Andy can create a safety net for Red. The new home is also there. As such, Brooks had no network, no friends outside of prison, simply no one and himself a nobody. As if made for relapse or suicide. Is that the point of being released from prison? An outstanding film with outstanding actors.

    • @machtnichtsseimann
      @machtnichtsseimann 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I get the sentiment and generalization, but I will nitpick as to Red and Andy "never" meeting in life and possibly forging any connection, any friendship. As much as there is no denying divisions of the past ( based on innumerable factors ), the same divisions exist today, yet who knows how many bonds and relationships were real and authentic and tight then, and now. Across class, education, skin tone. If the implication is that there was such tribalism then, it still is a thing today, and I'm not necessarily saying it's all a bad thing, either. ( Perhaps you aren't as well. My gut reaction was that you were over-simplifying and assuming the worst of society when in fact the "good news" and examples of America aren't publicized nor celebrated as much as the bad stuff. Pity. I say we don't bow to the worst of all generalizations and assumptions. The truth, then and now, is more nuanced than that. )

      That's one of the things that was magical about the 1980s...
      I was a construction worker standing in line at 7/11. Ahead of me was a banker in a 3 piece suit, having a conversation with the man in front of him, wearing worn, oil-stained clothes.
      When the first man reached the cashier, he pulled out a horse-choking wad of cash; he was an oil field worker who'd just gotten paid.
      But he and the banker talked as social equals. It was beautiful to see.

      And!!! "Andy blew town with over $300,000 of Warden Norton's money" in 2024, $300K (with inflation) would be about 3 million dollars. I always loved that little fact.

    I love seeing these movies vicariously through others again. Closest I can get to seeing it for the first time again. This one and LOTR are always a rite of passage movie for any reaction channel. Starwars original trilogy too... everyone is always so surprised by how good that actually is. If you haven't done it yet, that'll be another subscriber surge just like this film. Shout out to Brooks, Tommy, Red and Andy.

    My favourite movie of all time, and this could be my favourite reaction of all time! Great idea to watch and react to it guys, loved seeing you trying to work out possible outcomes… as for the movie, such an original plot but great twists and turns to keep the watcher transfixed… little fact : the movie originally had bad reviews and went straight to dvd, it was by word of mouth that helped it become one of the most loved movies of all time. Power to the people!!! ✊🏻🤓✊🏻

    Loved y'all's reaction--thank you! As for Christianity--there's a huge difference between true Christians and false Christians. It's always been that way and is true probably of every religion. But even in Jesus's day, the Pharisees (the leaders of the Jewish religion who wanted Jesus crucified) were the ones who wanted Jesus killed because he was threatening their power base. That said, Jesus saves people. God loves his people, and Jesus is true. Please don't write off Christianity because of what some twisted people do. ❤

    Stephen King is mostly known for his horror stories, but the fact is, those are mostly hit or miss when they get adapted to movies. But his few non-horror stories have a 100% record: Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile, Stand By Me.
