- In this week's travel vlog we visit Ptuj, the oldest town in Slovenia. Is it worth a visit?
We start our day in Ptuj strolling through the streets doing some sightseeing. We admire St. George's Church and the Ptuj Clock Tower. After taking a look at the beautiful town hall of Ptuj we eat a quick breakfast at a bakery called Pekarna Hlebec. We devour some delicious Burek and the popular Slovenian cake Potica. We then pick up some drinks from GR Browery, which is a cool kombucha shop in town. We take our kombucha and cold brew coffee up the hill and drink it at Ptuj Castle. Next, we have a look at the costumes for the Slovenian carnival Kurentovanje inside the castle and also have a walk through the beautiful rooms the castle has.
Finally, we have a delicious Slovenian dinner at Gostilna Amadeus Restaurant, where we eat trout with buckwheat and Ptuj chicken. We end the day taking in the beautiful view of the town by the Drava river.

These two literally are doing everything that we all love
Props to Anja for very good Slovenian pronunciations. Also you guys are cute af :)
We thought we butchered everything. Hahaha.
Thanks!! 😁
Thank you for your visit to Maribor and Ptuj for your positive comments, both of you, much respect😉😊🤗
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed.
Looks so pretty!
It was! Slovenia in general is super nice.
Great reportage pozdrav iz slovenije😊
Thanks for watching! We had a great time in Slovenia. We will be back again for sure. 🇸🇮
@@wherearewe-yt come to koper
That food looked so good especially the mushroom risotto thing yummy
Both dishes were so good! The mushroom buckwheat risotto thing was probably the best, but the trout was pretty amazing as well.
GR browery is having some awsome drinks
They do! We enjoyed them all. Glad we stumbled across their shop.
In these places, you should try Prekmurska gibanica among desserts.
Looked up a photo, and it looks delicious!
Hello I am local from nearby village of ptuj nice that you visited 👌
We had a great time. Thanks for watching!
I need to visit this placw
You should! It was very nice.
Serbs: Shaking, because you said the burek is just as good as a bakery in Slovenia owned by Albanians.
Bosnians: Shaking, because you called burek with cheese a burek. 😆
Hahaha. We don't know that this particular bakery is owned by Albanians - only that the information Anja found online said that immigrants from Albania and Kosovo brought burek over in the 60s. I'm sure we'll have a bunch of people telling us otherwise. It was good though!
If we ever film in Bosnia, we will make sure not to make that mistake. 😂
@@wherearewe-yt Yeah, if you ask for a burek in Bosnia, they will give you with meat, if you want cheese, ask for sirnica (seernitza). Or dont, make them mad 😄 They deserve it...
Ptuj is home of the largest poultry processing industry in the whole region.
I guess that explains the Ptuj chicken! Haha.
Obicna selendra..
On the chicken? It didn't really taste like cilantro, but who knows!
Slovenia has similar words as Serbian some words but when it comes a full on conversation then its totally different. Just thought you would know...
And any Slovenians dont like Srbski/Hrvatski. Such Culture Destroyer scks. Srbski/Hrvatski was the official language in Yugoslavija!
you done more promotion for slovenia than our ministry of culture :)
We went to Slovenia without really knowing what to expect (especially since there really aren't a lot of good TH-cam videos that show Maribor or Ptuj). It was absolutely beautiful! We would love to come back and explore more. Hopefully, we can see some of the incredible nature next time.
@@wherearewe-yt sugestion inland country specialy park called avoid those places like bled and tourists traps bled is not what it used to be decades ago then go to soca valey, alps region is also nice then sea site since slo got everything - desert well we got that too in parlament building xd
this was filmed in february and released in april???? Wow! I suppose you dont have the time to edit it guys?
We personally know people who are six months or more behind! Hahaha. A month, to two months is actually pretty normal for most people. The people who don't do a lot of editing, and just vlog around a city without any B-Roll or music, are the types of people that can post real time. Otherwise, its near impossible - especially when we don't do TH-cam full time. At this point, it's just a side gig! Hopefully that will change in the future.
@@wherearewe-yt oh it's completely OK I was just wondering
You should come to Piran or at least visit the coast. My mom could give you some OG Slovenian food.😂😂
One day, we are going to take someone up on one of these offers! Hahaha. There's nothing better than home cooked from from a local mother or grandmother. That is the true taste of local food. 👌
You Will never get a real potica in albanian pastry shop.. they are only good at making burek and nothing else. Even the bread is not even 5% close to old style Slovenian bread(as our grandmother's used to bake them) or they still do. The only real potica is homemade and it takes almost half a day to prepare. But anyway enjoy your stay in our beautiful green country 😊
It wasn't an Albanian pastry shop. I think people are misunderstanding what we said. I read online that Albanians brought Burek to Solvenia and that's what I was talking about. No idea if that's true. What I said was unrelated to the bakery in the video. The bakery we ate potica at in this video was very much Slovenian, though, I think. And it was delicious.
@@wherearewe-yt no it was not Slovenian for sure, slovenian bakery doesnt make burek.. they are all albanians. Still the “potica” your eating doesn’t resemble to the real deal by any chance. You just dont get them in the stores, not even the supermarket( some will sell them but again, not even close to the real one) Its just something that have to be homemade or handmade and takes time to prepare it right. Last weekend was ester, they were selling them on local markets a day or two before. Ah well what can you do :)
Oh, I see ☺️. The potica was delicious, though, but if it isn't the real deal I'd love to try the real stuff 😊.
When you two get to 10k try some American snacks
We've only been to the US once together, but we do have a trip coming up there, so there will likely be a video or two there.
Go to kikinda
We're gone from Slovenia now, but we hope to return and explore more in the future!
In English it is buhrock, not bahrohk.
Thanks for watching!
PATUJI? xD
🤔
PätuJ! xD
this not potica...omg
Some photos of potica online looked like this, while others looked more like a bundt cake. We were a bit confused when we found this version, but it was labeled and sold as potica, so we had to try!
What should it have looked like?
potica - poviti, diese zwei Wörter haben eigentlich nichts miteinander zu tun...
Auf dem Schild in der Bäckerei hieß es Potica 🤷
Already a misinformation in the very first sentence. Ptuj is not Slovenia's oldest town. Please stop repeating the untrue touristic slogan.
Then what is? Obviously we're going to go based off of what everything on the internet says. It's hardly misinformation if that's what literally every source on the internet says. Blame Google then. 😂
I'm slovenian and...why would anyone want to visit this shit town as a tourist??????
Hahaha. It's quite nice to visit! Wouldn't want to live there permanently or anything, so it was quite charming.
Its a little nice boring catholic town. Not the best vacation for young People haha! I like more the Drava & the long epic Landscapes to Hungary & Croatia...
