Slovenia is one of our favorite countries we have ever visited during our retirement travel. Ljubljana, Slovenia checks all the boxes for a city with beauty, cost of living, safety, great summer weather, castles, bridges, other things to see and do, etc. We enjoyed the Farmer’s market, Open Kitchen, walking around the Old Town and enjoying the bridges, and riding the funicular up to Ljubljana Castle.
We also took a day trip to Lake Bled and it is simply one of the most beautiful places on earth. After hiking up to Bled Castle, we made the 4 mile trek around the lake. We stopped and rented a row boat out to the island and visited the historic church. There were so many picture opportunities, that we probably stopped more than we walked, but it is a day we will never forget.

As the Retirement Travelers, we have always dreamed of traveling, but we never in a million years thought we would become travel vloggers and start a TH-cam channel. But, that is what we did! We work hard every day to become better and create something that others will enjoy. Having a community of friends, old and new, follow our journey is fun and exciting to us.
In 2019, we achieved our goal of visiting every state in the union in our Airstream. We also visited every national park in the lower 48. We are big believers in lists, so of course we plan to see the remaining 12 parks in the next few years.
In 2021, we made the big decision to extreme downsize to just a large and small backpack, each. We started our journey around the world beginning in Central America. We hope that over the next many years, we will have seen many beautiful things, made many memories and new friends, and shared the experience with our children and grandchildren.

Thanks. I am living between Ljubljana and Bled. But I grow up in Ljubljana. I am 58 years old now.
I’ve been binge watching videos of Slovenia and it’s making me wish I could speed up time to April 2023 when I’ll be out there! It’s truly underrated and I can’t wait to explore Slovenia and of course stuff my face with the good food 😂

Rowing across Lake Bled to the church looks great! That looks like a great area and to be inside the church when the bell is ringing had to be awe inspiring!

Slovenia, one of those countries I definitely plan to revisit, I was there in 2019! I didn’t get to Ljubljana, we were in Bled & Bohinj. I did that entire trip (Albania, Montenegro, Croatia & Slovenia) to get to Bled Island/the church on Lake Bled & we had a farewell reception at Bled Castle. A bit of trivia, I caught sight of Bled Island on a Hallmark Christmas movie ‘Crown for Christmas’ believe it or not, I recognized the steeple; another bit of trivia, Slovenia is the only country with L-O-V-E in its name…SLOVENIA! 👍🏽❤ Happy travels!

Slovenia is wonderful. I used to travel there for work. Another great town is Maribor

Great video. Slovenia is one of my favorite countries I've had the pleasure of visiting. It is beautiful, has amazing hiking, and the Slovene people are very friendly. In my opinion, it may be the most underrated country in Europe. That church in the middle of Lake Bled is a popular venue for weddings. It has an old urban legend: the marriage will last if the groom can carry the bride up the steps leading to the church. Thank you for sharing. Continued safe travels. I was fortunate to spend 2 weeks in Slovenia back in 1996 as part of a college missions trip. This was just a few years after the collapse of Yugoslavia. The people were amazing and it remains as the most amazing trip I have made in my life. Love your videos and your energy.

The castle in Ljubljana is home to a fantastic restaurant that was just awarded a Michelin star in September We had a fantastic wine pairing lunch experience there and it was outstanding!

Agee! Ljubljana was one of our favorite cities too! Only 48 hours for us, but we visited the castle, bridges and the market was outstanding! I still remember the stunning flowers for sale. Wish we could have visited Lake Bled thanks for taking us back!! Great video! ~Cara

LOVED the lake and the church! I’m so glad you got to ring church bells, Bev! I got my first chance last year here in England and was so excited! Then I had another cheeky little go at a tiny very old church at the beginning of the summer. And then in June I finally had a proper lesson from the bell ringer on how to do it! It’s actually quite difficult!!!

I was in Bled in the summer of 1985 (when I still lived in the Netherlands). I stayed in a youth hostel. I didn't visit the island, so I'm glad you gave me a peek there.

@@RetirementTravelers I guess in Cracow (Poland) they will have dragon pins as well. Very affordable travelling through Europe is also by a bus (coach) company named Flix Bus. There one route from Budapest (Hungary) to Cracow, that goes through Dolný Kubín in Slovakia, my home town there.
