I agree with you about these lists being difficult to make. It's like - what has to be left off? Also a very good point about how one's own current circumstances in life affects ones enjoyment of a film.
Now this is where I part ways with a lot of people, my favorite was return of the Jedi, I found the story more intriguing because it focused mostly on Luke, and the Empire a lot of it focused around Han and Leia, and as a guy let me just be honest, a lot of that she’s Bored me to death, and as I watch that movie, I do have to find my sub, skipping huge scenes, a lot of people love it as a classic, but for me it ran a little too long and I could do without a lot of hon and Leah scenes interrupting Yoda and Luke Training. 28:41
And another thing, the green light saber looked way cooler than the blue come on guys, once you saw that saber light up green for the first time I don’t know I kind of lost it that was so cool.
ROTJ is the best one for me too. I mean from Jabbas Lair, the Desert scene with the pit, speeders, walkers and even the ewoks in the Jungle - I love it all.

Yeah, I can relate on that one, when I was little, I had already an idea of what I liked and one of my two favorite movies was when I was a kid was the fly 1986 and scanners, I didn’t realize they were Kronenberg until I was like 19 like way later like in the 2000s, so yeah I can relate when it comes to that, cool stuff so far 7:52
LOL right? I just never paid attention...I always thought of Verhoeven with Basic Instinct and Showgirls...even though I was kinda aware he did the sci-fi stuff but it really just didnt dawn on me until I got into being "serious" about movies and filmmaking in my late teens
@@AVAPopCulture yeah, basic instinct didn’t really hit me until later as well, but we rented RoboCop probably a handful of times from the warehouse back in 87, well at least out here in LA, I grew up in the little inner cities around Los Angeles, so the big stores at the time was the warehouse, music plus and Little Asian video owned private stores, we would get videos cheaper there, there is one place called. Need a video that we would go to that was next to a pizza man, good times. I also think it’s funny how people don’t realize certain things, I didn’t grow up with blockbuster, we didn’t hear about blockbuster and Hollywood video until maybe I want to say, 9495 at least around where I was in the Los Angeles area. I mean yeah, I want to say 1994/1995 blockbuster didn’t make its way in until then here in Cali, we also didn’t get a Walmart until like 97.
The ending of Trading Places puts a smile on my face every time. I still own my original Point Break vhs. Mad Max, Heat, Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Dead Again and who Framed Roger Rabbit would would make my top 25
OK, I’m just gonna say this once, I seen other reviewers talk about Lethal Wepen and whether people like it or not let’s just be logical about this, it starts up with a Christmas song, classic jingle, Bell rock and ends with another classic. I’ll be home for Christmas Elvis Presley, awesome classics, it was meant to be a different movie for the time and a Christmas classic, a change of pace of Christmas classics. You also have a lot of scenes with some Christmas tree atmosphere good stuff, merry Christmas will set at least two or three times in the movie and race it guys it’s one of the first action hybrid for the t 17:20 imes.
I appreciate that man! My channel is still only a couple of months old so hopefully more and more people find it and dig what I am doing enough to stick around!!!

Rocky is the greatest, most inspirational sports movie. The second best movie in the franchise is Rocky Balboa, because in the speech to his son, Stallone perfectly describes what makes these movies so great. "Its not about how hard you hit. Its about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward."
Can’t argue with your list. Seen 5500 movies since 94 and only about 50 good. That was an interesting list. Now, I'll give you my top 25, and honestly, there are 2 films that are animated films on my list, I don't agree that animated movies are completely different than other movies, they still count. Here goes: 25. Shrek 24. Shrek 2 23. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly 22. The Wolf of Wall Street 21. Blazing Saddles 20. The Princess Bride 19. Rear Window 18. The Dark Knight 17. Star Wars, Episode 4, A New Hope 8. Star Wars, Episode 5, the Empire Strikes Back 7. Pulp Fiction 6. Back to the Future 5. Boyz N Da Hood 4. The Mask of Zorro 3. Ground Hog Day 2. Good Will Hunting Here are some honorable mentions, now, none of them are necessarily 26, I might continue my list, I just felt 25 was a milestone, but because my mind might change and I won't be able to just immediately say what it is without giving it a lot of thought, that's why I'm right now just saying them: Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Beetlejuice and Full Metal Jacket. My # 1 is: Forrest Gump!
it is just hard for me to compare animated with live action...that is like being a sports fan and comparing baseball and football...sure, you are a sports fan and they are both sports BUT they are not the same game and they are not played the same way LOL
@@AVAPopCulture haha I feel like the most cherished movies for people will always be the ones we are remember when we were younger. Just brings back alll that nostalgia
This is a real fun challenge to get a list down to 25. I agree tops do change, not for any real reason, you still love the film, but for no reason you love others more at that moment. I've had a top 300 for a couple of years, i'm always changing things around, and obviously adding new (new to me) films. My top 25 at this moment are: 25 The Towering Inferno 1974 24 It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World 1963 23 Foul Play 1978 22 Carry On Abroad 1972 21 The Excorcist 3 1990 20 Police Academy 1984 19 The Negotiator 1998 18 Road Trip 2000 17 Speed 1994 16 Red 2010 15 Final Destination 2 2003 14 The Omen 1976 13 Star Trek: Generations 1994 12 Lethal Weapon 2 1989 11 Dirty Harry 1971 10 Halloween Kills 2021 9 Scream 1996 8 Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country 1991 7 Love Actually 2003 6 Die Hard 1988 5 Beverly Hills Cop 1984 4 A Fish Called Wanda 1988 3 Damien: Omen 2 1978 2 Halloween 1978 1 Pulp Fiction 1994
changes defintely can happen as we change and experience other movies etc etc...so many factors in play and that adds to the difficulty in making a list like this!!
Everyone has their own list! That's what is great about movies! I love Tombstone but it isn't in my top 25! But that doesn't mean I don't absolutely love it!
Wow, good mother effing list, I want to say when I was a kid my brother and I we actually found the nightmare on Elm Street and the 13th movies damn hilarious, I know it sounds odd but we just I mean as scary as they were supposed to be they were actually very very funny to us. I want to see the movie when I was a kid that disturbed me was American werewolf in London, that was one of the first times I kinda was checking outside my window if I heard something a noise at night outside the bathroom window, that scene when he transforms into the wall werewolf in the living room I kinda be looking around my living room you know, thinking, what would I do? I don’t even think I’d be able to run from that thing it’s so fast. 49:46
Yeah, we found Freddy Krueger to be pretty hilarious, and it didn’t help that later in the 90s other people could relate to it, The Simpsons did a pretty good job mimicking the scene where he’s on fire at the end and the screaming, when groundskeeper Willy gets set on fire, I don’t know in between the 80s and the 90s happened so fast for me, in between with children and living color and the Simpsons becoming basically a new genre of sitcom. I also remember back in the day in high school one of my friends found the super Freddy bit hilarious and dream child, I think one of my favorite bits was and part four when he’s making fun of westerns, he’s like you shouldn’t of buried me I’m not dead. I don’t know. This is certain things that was comical to my brother and I, seeing teenagers get hacked up in funny ways in the Friday the 13th movies, they were so much odd. It was just done pretty entertaining, you can tell when they were making some of the Friday the 13th. They had a little bit too much fun doing the kills.
Oh, one more thing I forgot to mention, I was yes, a huge fan of American werewolf in London, but later when he did the sequel, I felt so betrayed, it was such a bad bad movie. I think that’s the problem today if a movie like that was released, you’d have a lot of people saying it was good, it was it was pretty good,, I could seriously say, American world in Paris dunk. I recently watched it again a couple weeks ago and gotta say still feel some betrayal. I recently purchased the 4K a couple years ago that they did of an American werewolf in London and just because I’m nostalgic, I also have the laser disk remaster from 1995.
Bwhahahahahahaha.... possibly my least favorite film I've made because of how exhausted I was... Creature Feature was the most fun, Bring Me A Dream had the biggest names, and Dark Roads 79 is probably my best
I like your choices, I just find the selections pretty typical. Do you ever give foreign films and art house cinema a try? As a director yourself I would have expected to see at least one or two notables from the cannon outside of the big US productions.
I watch everything and all kinds of movies BUT I was kid in the early 80s going to see a lot of these iconic films open in the theater and right there when the movie rental stores began to open up and become popular - you cant think in terms of how it is today - as a 6 year old kid in rural Georgia in 1985, you weren't seeking out Art-House and Foreign films, nor did you have access to much of that - BUT you could get to the theater and see The Goonies or Ghostbusters etc every chance you could and then wait the looong stretch before it made it to Video rental stores or on TV - the truth is, most anyone who was a kid and grew up in that time is probably not being very honest if they say they were all about Foreign and Art House films in growing up in the 80s because the access to them wasnt there...internet wasnt even widely used until I graduated High school lol and there just arent any films since I have been an adult that have stuck with me the same as those - there is a reason Hollywood is going back to those films...
My top ten favorite movies in alphabetical order are: Braveheart Bringing Up Baby Dolores Claiborne Forrest Gump Innerspace Magnolia Maltese Falcon Psycho Purple Rose of Cairo Singin in the Rain
To me, Terminator 2 is the greatest action film ever made. Every moment in T2 is a classic. But trust me, I love Die Hard and Die Hard With A Vengeance. Were talking about McTiernan at the peak of his powers. Terminator 2 is peak James Cameron
Aliens would definitely be on my Top 10 list. To me, Aliens is the greatest sci-fi ever made. Once again, Cameron exercises his 3D powers with number, specifically the No 57.
He agreed, Directors cut can be more superior than theatrical cuts, for me a perfect example and this is one reason why I never purchased the 4K Blu-ray as of yet is, tropic thunder, Ben Stiller‘s cut is far more superior, there’s certain scenes that are not there that kind of hurt the movie and there were comedic scenes that are cut that also take away from Enhancing what’s already there, it was the first time I watched a directors cut, and significantly liked it better than the theatrical, this is most likely the only movie that I know that I’ve seen that the directors cut is superior, every now and then I’ll get one word it’s a little better, but this is to the point where I just I cannot watch the theatrical cut . 14:01 52
Here’s my top 50 😀 1. Mulholland Drive 2. Synecdoche New York 3. American Psycho 4. Blue Velvet 5. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy 6. Dune Part 2 7. Miller’s Crossing 8. The Departed 9. Casino 10. Battle Royale 48. Cure 49. No Country for Old Men 50. I Saw the Devil
Its A Wonderful Life would be much higher on my list. It is not only the greatest Christmas movie ever, its also the greatest Christian movie. That glorious ending to Its A Wonderful Life is what Christ wanted for all of us.
I prefer the theatrical cut to Almost Famous. It has a better pace. Theres no fat. The birthday party for Penny was unnecessary and awkward. But I do love Almost Famous
LOL I do love LOTR though! I am going to do this list every 6 months or once per year and see how or if I feel differently...I know there is 1 film that wasnt in my top 25 that is now top 15 lol
@@AVAPopCulture I worked at the theater when I went back to school, it was the best job I ever had to this day. T2, Point Break, Edward Scissorhands, Batman Returns and many other greats came out during that time. They all hold a special place in my heart. I still have some of the original posters (2-sided ones) that I snagged from those days. But LOTR is definitely my all-time favorite. I know almost every line from the first two, lol.
JAWS AT 14!? Come onnnn lol . To me with story how it affected beaches and the three amazing actors carrying the story i have it at #2 . Back to the future is top ten for me. I say it, I didn’t like the breakfast club, well not to the point where I want to watch it again, it wasn’t a bad movie, I just I guess I didn’t like it, I don’t know what else to say.
some people dont like it... I am late Gen X so I can relate to a lot of it but it is not a a watch all the time movie for me whereas I can watch Weird Science every day lol
@@AVAPopCulture yeah, we were very much into weird science as well. Kely LeBron was smoking back in the day and one of my favorite John Hughes movies at the time was uncle Buck and Dutch, later on I warmed up to planes, trains, and automobiles.
And one more movie in particular that I liked back in the day, which I don’t know maybe he had a part in it or they were just trying to copy his formula, but this was an awesome movie and it’s all right, 3 o’clock high, I recently watched it again and still love it, Freaking hilarious
Critics (pfffft) panned it but for me Solo , a Star Wars story by Ron Howard is a great film. No stupid peeve,.peeve,.peeve sounds of fighting machines in space and all that crap.
Only 2 films from before the 80s and no non-American films (unless you count Total Recall as Dutch) and not a single black and white film. Must do better.
why? this is my top 25 movies.... Take your contemporary view out of it - in the early 80s there was barely video rental stores yet much less widespread access to foreign films BUT we could go see Indiana Jones or Star Wars dozens of times in the theater and watch horror movies on one of the 5 or 6 channels we could get without cable in rural Georgia... and when I was growing up, there were massively iconic studio films being released -everything from Rocky and Back to the Future to Terminator, Goonies, and on and on...anyone who was a kid in the late 70s-early late 80s that claims they were all in to foreign films is probably being pretentious as an adult and not very honest.... It's A Wonderful Life was in Black and White by the way, but again, who cares? I have been a film fan my whole life and have been a screen writer and film director for 2 decades, I dont need to pretend to have favorties to look sophisticated LOL - my first TV was black and white so literally everything I watched was black and white...it isnt like now where you can stream any film from anywhere at any time
@@AVAPopCulture Touched a nerve? Look, I grew up in the late 70s and 80s, just like you, and I will admit that I didn't get seriously into cinema until I reached my 20s. Big Sci-Fi and Horror fan I see! Love it!
Agreed, I do have a specific saying for this movie, it ain’t Christmas without McLean, yay Mara,,, exploit, lol 27:10
My whole family loves Christmas Vacation too
my family calls me Clark all the time because I am so much like him lol - they even bought me that jersey he wears LOL
The ending of Trading Places puts a smile on my face every time. I still own my original Point Break vhs. Mad Max, Heat, Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Dead Again and who Framed Roger Rabbit would would make my top 25
Looking good Billy Ray...Feeling Good Louis! lol
Another great topic. Great list!
thank you!!! this one was a tough list to narrow down lol
You inspired me to do one. It's very challenging, but really fun.

That was an interesting list. Now, I'll give you my top 25, and honestly, there are 2 films that are animated films on my list, I don't agree that animated movies are completely different than other movies, they still count. Here goes:
25. Shrek
24. Shrek 2

Here are some honorable mentions, now, none of them are necessarily 26, I might continue my list, I just felt 25 was a milestone, but because my mind might change and I won't be able to just immediately say what it is without giving it a lot of thought, that's why I'm right now just saying them: Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Beetlejuice and Full Metal Jacket.
My # 1 is: Forrest Gump!
it is just hard for me to compare animated with live action...that is like being a sports fan and comparing baseball and football...sure, you are a sports fan and they are both sports BUT they are not the same game and they are not played the same way LOL
Very solid list
thank you!! you can kinda tell that my heart is still in the 80s lol

I agree tops do change, not for any real reason, you still love the film, but for no reason you love others more at that moment. I've had a top 300 for a couple of years, i'm always changing things around, and obviously adding new (new to me) films. My top 25 at this moment are:
25 The Towering Inferno 1974

23 Foul Play 1978
22 Carry On Abroad 1972

5 Beverly Hills Cop 1984
4 A Fish Called Wanda 1988
3 Damien: Omen 2 1978
2 Halloween 1978
1 Pulp Fiction 1994
changes defintely can happen as we change and experience other movies etc etc...so many factors in play and that adds to the difficulty in making a list like this!!
Tombstone number 1. Fact not opinion and I don’t like western. Trading is on 4K
Thanks! I had a lot of fun making this list! I definitely didn't find Nightmare on Elm Street funny as a kid back in 1985 lol
Wait a sec... no Realm of Souls? Best Horror movie out there... 😁
Bwhahahahahahaha.... possibly my least favorite film I've made because of how exhausted I was... Creature Feature was the most fun, Bring Me A Dream had the biggest names, and Dark Roads 79 is probably my best

@ only a few I would change if I made a list 🍿
My top ten favorite movies in alphabetical order are:
Braveheart
Bringing Up Baby
Dolores Claiborne
Forrest Gump
Innerspace
Magnolia
Maltese Falcon
Psycho
Purple Rose of Cairo
Singin in the Rain

100% agree and amazing movie! I actually have an autographed photo of the final shot signed by "Zuzu"
I do like T3 also
I prefer the theatrical cut to Almost Famous. It has a better pace. Theres no fat. The birthday party for Penny was unnecessary and awkward. But I do love Almost Famous

no LOTR...you hurt me here buddy, lol. j/k great list though!

I know almost every line from the first two, lol.

some people dont like it...
B-O-O H-O-O

So, in your honorable mentions, you don't like ALIEN?
When Did I say I don't like Alien? Lol I love Alien but I was trying to keep it to 25....But I like Aliens better than Alien
SMH. Total Recall and Roadhouse... 👎
to each their own! you'll find plenty of fans for those 2 films!
You have terrible taste in movies
and yet, here you are....lol .... movie taste is subjective, create your own list!
But when I did, I made a conscious effort to actually expand my horizons beyond my own country. If you don't want to do that, hey, how American of you.
But you're seriously missing out.
@@SpaceCattttt LOL I dont have to like what you like and just because a film is foreign or black and white, doesnt make it better - that is about the most ignorant and pretentious thing I have ever heard
@@AVAPopCulture Err...this is not about elitism. It's about you refusing to have a look at the thousands upon thousands of films that you would most likely love if you ever left your insular bubble behind.
