This is one of my fave topics. Criminally underrated:: the secret window, the 9th gate, the proposition, bone tomahawk, state of play, reign of fire. & ghost in the shell , with Scarlett Johanson. & winters bone.
Frequency is great. I was glued to the TV the first watch. Since then I have watched like 10 times and still spotted things in the movie that I've missed from previous watches.
I feel your pain. My ex got me to get rid of my collection too and I fell for it. 5 years later when she said I needed to get rid of the dog bc of her allergies, let’s just say Thor is still Daddy’s boy.
Obscenely underrated films continued: '05/ Munich. '05/ Ice Harvest. '07/ Street Kings. '07/ We own the Night. '08/ Surveillance. '09/ Repo Men. '11/ Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy. '11/ Shotgun Preacher. '12/ Zulu. '12/ Savages. '14/ The Drop. '15/ Knock Knock. '16/ Triple 9. Birdman. & maybe the most underrated great film oat: '21/ Nightmare Alley.
I own Frequency on DVD and Secondhand Lions on Blu-Ray. Both great movies. My top 10 movies you've never seen (in no particular order): 1. Citizen X (1995) with Jeffrey DeMunn as Andre Chikatilov as a suspected Soviet mass murderer. Also stars Donald Sutherland and Stephen Rea. Great suspense movie. 2. Duel (1971) starring Dennis Weaver being hunted on the road by an unseen truck driver in a 40' rig. Stephen Spielberg's first full-length film, and currently available in 4k. Intense drama. 3a. A Walk in the Clouds (2003) starring Keanu Reeves as a salesman immediately following WWII, who falls in love with the unmarried pregnant daughter of a Napa vinyard owner while married to someone else (Debra Messing). 3b Sweet November (2001) Another Keanu Reeves romance film. Reeves plays a big-time ad executive with no life outside of work, meets an (unknown to him) dying Charlize Theron, who gifts him the month of November to be with her. 4. Finding Forrester (2000) stars Sean Connery as a reclusive author who tutors a young black basketball player (Rob Brown) to be a writer in secret. Also starts F. Murry Abraham as a would-be author and Connery's nemesis, who's also Brown's teacher. 5. Searching for Bobby Fischer (1993) with Ben Kingsley as a chess instructor for young Josh Waitzkin (Max Pomeranc), a real-life chess prodigy at age 7. Also with Joe Mantenga as Josh's father and Lawrence Fishberg as a street chess player that befriends Josh. 6. It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963) with a great ensemble cast including Jimmy Durante, Spencer Tracy, Milton Berle, Sid Caesar, Ethel Merman, Mickey Rooney, Johnathan Winters and more, all trying to find a treasure buried by Jimmy Durante who spills the beans about the location of his stolen loot right before he kicks the bucket. Hilarious, and full of great twists. 7. Life as a House (2001), stars Kevin Kline who is terminated from his job in architechture at the same time he discovers he has terminal cancer. Kline owns a house on the Pacific Ocean and wants to rebuild it using his severance pay to re-establish his lost relationship with his drug-abusing son (Hayden Christensen). Also stars Jena Malone and Kristen Scott-Thomas as Kline's ex-wife. 8. Mumford (1999) Loren Dean stars as Dr Mumford, who arrives in the aptly-named town of Mumford and establishes a psychocological practice in the small town. Only Dr Mumford doesn't have a degree or credentials, but nevertheless, always finds a way to help his patients. With Ted Danson, Martin Short, Jason Lee, and Alfre Woodard. 9. Pontiac Moon (1994) Ted Danson stars as a science teacher in this intriguing and comical tale who takes his son (who has never been allowed to ride in a car before by his mother, who previously lost a child while pregnant in an auto accident and is now agoraphobic) on a trek in his 1949 Pontiac Chieftan to the "Spires of the Moon" national park, where the car's identical mileage upon arrival will be the same distance the Apollo 11 astronauts will travel to reach the moon. 10. Renaissance Man (2003) Danny DiVito starts as an out of work advertising agent that is "selected" to work on the nearby Army post by his unemployment office to teach the Double Ds (otherwise known as Dumb as Dog S---) recruits to become better soldiers by improving their ability to relate to Army life.
I've seen a few. Will be watching the rest. Thanks for the recommendations! Ray Bradbury's book is incredible so I will definitely check out how Disney interpreted the novel?
Pandorum is THE SHIT!! I just upgraded my DVD to Blu-ray a few months ago. That & it's the only film on your list ive seen hahaha I think I saw Secondhand Lions once way back when it 1st came out
Pandorum is so underrated! It has everything you want from a Sci-Fi, Action, Horror, Suspense, Mystery film...it is all there! Otherwise, if I pulled 8 or 9 that you havent seen, I did a good job LOL
Completely agree with Frequency. Fantastic movie. Also would suggest The Seventh Sign starring Demi Moore and Michael Biehn. An apocalyptic horror film that has stuck with me for the last 35 years.
Just thought of 32 films that no one talks about & r grossly underrated. : '71/ play misty for me. '81 / Body Heat. '86/ Rivers Edge. '88/ Lair of the White Worm. '90/ Quick Change. '96/ Feeling Minnesota. '97/ The Relic. '97/ Mimic. '98/ Fallen. '01/ Original Sin.
Copland doesn’t get the credit it deserves. The cast is INSANELY awesome-DeNiro, Keitel, Liotta, Annabella Sciorra, Michael Rapaport, Edie Falco, Janeane Garofalo, Peter Berg, Deborah Harry, and even Robert Patrick from T2! Stallone delivers an against-type, understated, weak, and fat-he gained 35-40 lbs to make the movie-performance for the ages. This film proves Stallone has real dramatic acting chops; he’s not just an action star. He should’ve been nominated for Best Actor for this role. And he should’ve made more dramas-he’s good. The only reason the film didn’t make a ton at the box office is that it was an indie Miramax film. Had it been a big name studio flick, it would’ve had the marketing $$ needed to make its awesomeness known to the masses.
I saw Something Wicked This Way Comes as ave kid in the late 80s and liked it, until you talked about it i remember very little about it, so maybe i could do with a re-watch. I'm going to look out for Frequency as well.
Thanks Chase for this series ..please kepp it going and you may even be able to break out into genre specific versions of this! ie lost and forgotten... comedies / suspense / horror etc. New sub because of this series 👍
The Butchers Wife. I just saw it again tonight in honor of my late mother. It was one of my moms favorite movies. And i gotta say, The Butchers Wife is a well written and well acted romcom. Demi Moore and Jeff Daniels have great chemistry
Secondhand Lions is one of my favorite movies. I have it on VHS, DVD and recently found the Blu-ray at Big lots. My son was reluctant to watch it with me but then he ended up loving it too. 😁
Chase, Just found your TH-cam channel (the "physical media algorithm" brought me here). I'm a huge cinephile, although mostly classic movies (1980 is kinda my cut-off), and so sadly, I haven't seen ANY of the movies on this list of 10. But, i have added several of them to my Watch List. Thanks for a fun video and be well. Paul +
Hey thank you so much, I am glad youtube let you find me lol! I love movies of all eras but the late 70s through 90s tend to be my happy place because that time stretches from me being a kid to me being a young adult studying film and beginning to make films... I am confident that you'd enjoy a lot of these films! The Heavenly Kid for instance is basically a Frank Capra style film with an 80s esthetic overlay 😀
@AVAPopCulture My sweet spot is late '50's to early ''70's. I was born right in the middle. I'll definitely be on the lookout for several of the movies on your list.
I remember Frrequency and really enjoying it. I'd completely forgotten about it. Crossroads I remember too but it didn't grab me in the same way. One you didn't mention but I remember vividly was Stakeout with Richard Dreyfuss and Emilio Estevez from 1987. Started as a comedy but halfway through switched to quite an intense thriller IIRC. The sequel, Another Stakeout, was pretty poor.
Awesome top 10,Crossroads & Heavenly Kid I have on bluray love these movies…Keep up the great work , I only came across ya today and have watched about 10 of ya TH-cam videos, loved your insight on the whole grain/dnr issue
hell yeah man I appreciate that! I am glad you are enjoying the channel! I have so damn many fun topics and thoughts I want to get out there on video that I can't keep up and get them out fast enough LOL but I am working on more as we speak!
Pandorum is severely underrated. Five flicks that don't get mention much for me would be, Otis 2008 Triangle 2009 The Stone Age 1994 Chuck Steel Night of The Trampires 2018 and The Book of Love 1990. Looks like your channel is growing 👍
Ah! You might have mentioned one here that is in my part 2 video to this video that I just dropped this morning " 15 Awesome Movies You've Never Seen" !!!! and 1000000% agree on Pandorum!
As far as your list: Frequency is a good one. Secondhand Lions is also a good one and one that my dad also likes. I have seen clips of Crossroads, but hadn't seen it yet. I remember seeing Ice Pirates years back, maybe when it was still fairly new as we had cable for a time. Have heard of Pandorum, but hadn't watched that one yet. I remember family renting Next of Kin, but I didn't sit and watch that one. Something Wicked This Way Comes, while I hadn't seen the whole movie, it was always memorable. One that I wanted to mention is a lesser-known movie that I remember and had on VHS was Arcade from 1993 that starred Peter Billingsley, Seth Green, John DeLancie and Megan Ward. It came out in a similar period as Brainscan, Freejack, Johnny Mnemonic, Lawnmower Man, TimeCop, Virtuosity and the Reboot animated series. All memorable movies and 'techie'.
I think public enemies is criminally underrated, underwatched, & not discussed enough. Aswell as Mandy, permanent midnight, the cooler, blowout, femme Fatale, Freeway, & dark city, & dark man. & day breakers. & the rum diary.
Good list. I have Heavenly Kid on blu ray and a couple copies on VHS. Wish a 4k on its way, second hand lions would be great on 4k too. The few I with had a 4k are White Water Summer, 3 o’clock high, captain Ron, Armed and Dangerous, Dark City, empire Records, falling Down, and Harlem Nights! Just to name a few. My list is bigger but I would love to see these updated on 4k. Have a good one.
I saw that after I made the video and went on the hunt for the ones I was missing lol..now I have to decide if I should upgrade to the Blu-Ray or hold out for a 4k...
@AVAPopCulture I hope it does. Just looked at my copy of the film and saw that it was done by Touchstone Pictures... hopefully, Sony will do us a huge favor on releasing it on 4k.
Frequency is fantastic - anyone that even remotely likes time travel movies should see it. The Heavenly Kid is amazing; cheezy but strangely compelling. The actors are amazing (Lewis Smith is great) and Jane Kaczmarek very much legitimizes it. Jason Gedrick ended up on Desperate Housewives (made me crazy until I looked him up). And you can never go wrong with Richard Mulligan. I've always loved the "repent to get into heaven" stories (like Oh Heavenly Dog). Thanks for plugging these movies. People thing that the flavor of the week at Netflix is all that's out there. They are dead wrong. :D
I'm much less of a flavor of the week person and much more of a find the most important ones to you and hang onto them forever 😊... I still cant figure out why Frequency isn't more popular- especially in the science fiction fandom...that movie literally has a little of everything you could want...Jason Gedrick will always be the kid from Iron Eagle to me lol... The Heavenly kid is one of those I've always loved - it was the first one my own mom brought uo when I told her about this list...- you're right, ot is something about being perfectly imperfect and needing to find the redemption - kind of like an anti-hero - the feeling that he finds out God believes in him even when he didn't believe in himself kind of thing- very compelling- and you're right, some great 80s cheese to wrap it up lol...thanks for watching and the kind words!
@@AVAPopCulture My pleasure. I have over 2000 DVDs, blus, 4k and "other" in my movie nook. No streaming service owns me :D I love to hear people gush about some of my favorites :)
New sub. Love ice pirates. Love pandorum . Love next o kin. Own second hand lions, its on deck of Watch list. Will check out the others. Thanks for the recommendations. One of the most fun parts of being a FIM fanatic is recommending films that r underrated & seemingly underwatched. & underapreciated.
thank you for subscribing to hang around!!! and youre right, I had a whole lot of fun doing this list - I had to cut it to 10, I had enough picked to do a top 25 LOL...
Out of all of those I have and really liked next of kin. I think I also I have seen Pandorem. I'm going to save this video. I like these movies you selected. I think I may have on DVD the Ralph macho movie too. Something wicked this way comes sounds really interesting. 😮
Other great movies, Powder, City of Ember, Ballistic: Ecks vs sever, Masters of the Universe, Krull, Flight of the Intruder, Bat 21, The Package, Ratings game 1984 with Danny Devito, endlass more
There are several people in the comments who had never seen it 🤷♂️.... we have to remember that inside this bubble we may have seen more than the public at large!!
Great list of movies! I have heard of them and I have seen some of them but it’s been decades so I don’t remember much of the stories now. One thing I always remember thou are the movie posters and DVD cover art. If I am not mistaken, Something Wicked This Way Comes had a Blu-ray release thru Disney Movie Club.
Pandorum is fantastic... Some films I don't hear a lot about: Cherry 2000 The Wraith Hotel Artemis The Virgin Suicides Vesper Chronicles Titan A. E. 1984 The Cell Dark City Equalibrium Automata Primer / Upstream Color
you're right! and dont hear a lot about those - though I think Primer just got a big release from Umbrella or Zavvi- cant remember which... but Pandorum deserves a big 4k release too in my opinion!
I've seen several of those in theaters (bc I'm old) but I'm writing not to recommend a movie, but a book: Stephen King's Danse Macabre. He has a section on Something Wicked and really deep-dives on the themes and I *think* he talks about both the book and the movie. There are reasons it stays with you like it does. I have read Danse Macabre practically to pieces. It's from the 80s, I think, and is one of King's very few non-fiction books - it 's really a history of horror through all media: radio, tv, films, and books. It is *fascinating* & you should get it and read it if you haven't already. Made me appreciate the genre a lot more. I wish he'd write an updated version but he's said in interviews if he'd known how much work it would be to write he would never have started it in the first place. *sigh*
My Science Project is on Kino probably OOP now but so good like many on this list. Great video brother I’ve seen them all but the only one that I don’t own is Second Hand Lions. Something Wicked This Way comes had a Blu-ray
I missed the blu ray on Something wicked this way comes! I'll have to seek that out! Secondhand Lions is perfect old fashioned storytelling in my opinion...and My Science Project has always been one that I just enjoyed watching!! thanks man, I appreciate the kind words and support! congrats on getting over that 1k hump too!
Back in the eighties I did watch Something wicked on showtime, completely forgot about it. Frequency , used to have it on vhs, maybe someone in my family has it. Interested in second hand lion. Thanks for the memories!
I have seen all of these, and I must say…The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot is a brilliant film…Sam Elliott’s best role, IMO. In addition to that film, my list would include The Long Good Friday (1980), Ghost Story (1981), A Love Song For Bobby Long (2004), Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012), Diva (1981), Under the Skin (2014), The Duellists (1977), Dark August (1976), and Gregory’s Girl (1982).
Yeah, I remember hearing about Pandora, mixed reviews all over the place, never watched it, I think the reason why it probably didn’t get a lot of hype that here was because of the second transformers and Star Trek reboot that was coming out most likely got all of the attention. Pandora, sounds interesting. Reminds me of that old Bowfinger production, Kit, Ramsay, Kincaid, awesome hilarious Jim, Bowfinger., Also forgive my Siri, she doesn’t understand how to spell Pandora, so she pronounces this word. 20:05
When you were describing Frequency I thought i saw it but I remember it having Michael Keaton, but after looking it up, I might be thinking of White Noise? I'll have to try to find and rewatch both.
I have seen Heavenly Kid and Ice pirates at my local Vintage Stock. I liked Pandorum and got the movie. Another movie that isnt talked about anymore is Space Hunter
A Man Apart, if you want to see Vin Diesel actually act, Ned Kelly with Heath Ledger, Deuces Wild, The Great Silence, The Frighteners, The Spirit, Mr Destiny, Marathon Man, Over The Edge, Miracle Mile and all Bud Spencer & Terence Hill movie.
I have all 10 of these movies on dvd/blu ray or both. I met Lewis Smith from The Heavenly Kid back in 2014 at Chiller Theater convention in New Jersey (same place i met Ralph Macchio at). He wasnt a regular guest but was there with other cast members promoting a serial killer movie. He was pleasantly surprised when i approached him wanting to meet him and talk The Heavenly Kid. A very down to earth guy. I own the blu ray Scorpion or Code Red put out i got through Ronin Flix (cool to hear MVD Rewind is rereleasing it). Crossroads is another great one and i have that on blu ray with a slipcover (i believe from Millcreek). My Science Project is on blu ray that i have (maybe Kino). There's just so many great mainly forgotten movies from 1970's-into the early 2000's for me that i own nobody talks about. More lists would be great.
That's awesome! I had heard Lewis Smith was a good guy, I follow him on instagram and he has been teaching acting for a long time... I will probably do Part 2 and Part 3 of this list because I had about 25 or so picked out but I knew the video would run too long LOL
"Frequency" is an all-time "go to" for me and my wife. Fantastic movie. "Secondhand Lions" was also really enjoyable. Haven't seen it in a while though, so I really should revisit it. I didn't enjoy "Crossroads" much when I first saw (back when it came out), but that's probably because I was going through a "Ralph Macchio is a puss!" phase. I recall enjoying "The Heavenly Kid", but again, that's one I need to revisit to see if it still holds up. "Ice Pirates" was goofy when new, and is goofy AF now...but, it's a good, fun, kind of goofy, not a "geez, I wish I hadn't wasted my time on this" kind of goofy. JMO, of course. Didn't really enjoy "My Science Project", but that might have been due to my expectations at the time. Next of Kin is underrated, for sure...and it's weird that I hear more folks talk about "Steel Dawn" than this one. "Something Wicked This Way Comes" will surprise folks. Yes, it's a Disney movie, but it's a RAY BRADBURY "Disney movie", which is what sets it far apart from typical Disney fare. It has far more in common with "The Black Cauldron" than it does "Mickey Mouse". Highly recommend. As for the other flicks on your list: they are now on MY list...of films I need to watch. 😁
Two films which spring to mind that folks should definitely check out and not many people seem to know when I mention them: "Fallen" with Denzel Washington, and "Frailty" with Bill Paxton.
@Ogre6972 hey, don't tell anyone about Frailty, it might have been on part 2 or 3 of this video series lol! I came up with about 30 and decided to do it in 3 videos
heavenly kid & my science project were both on cable constantly when we got cable in like 1987. i remember liking them but watched both more recently and just didn’t hold up for me. ice pirates was something my neighbor loved back in day and always hyped. just never did much for me. crossroads i remember watching just cause i was big david lee roth fan back then and of course steve vai was in his band. been ages since ive seen it. be interested to give it another watch. cool list dude….
thanks man! yeah, We first got cable when I like 9 or 10 maybe around 87 or 88 (something like that) and I remember The Heavenly Kid and My Science project showing a lot then too... The Heavenly Kid I watched recently and it still feels the same to me, My Science Project feels a bit different BUT the nostalgia wins me over...Ice pirates I just watch and laugh LOL
Frequency is really good. Remember really liking it. Definitely a hidden gem. Remember Secondhand Lions being well received when it came out but don't hear about it very much anymore. Have heard of Crossroads but haven't seen it. Will have to check it out. Sounds great. Will have to check out My Science Project. Really enjoyed Fisher Stevens in Early Edition. Fun idea for a video and what seems like a great list. May have to try to do something similar.
Thanks man! I had a lot of fun with this one and actually came up with like 27 films and decided to find 3 more and then do it in 3 videos lol - so many hidden gems out there!
@@physicalmediaman heck yeah! I am working on them now so they'll be out here soon!! got a couple of other drops first but these are so fun it is hard not to do them back to back LOL
Great list!! Frequency is excellent. I love getting physical media My most underrated Ghost World Miller’s Crossing Killer Joe Braindead Synecdoche New York Who Framed Roger Rabbit I Saw The Devil Cure Tora Tora Tora The Lighthouse The Orphanage
I would add a movie by Alan Parker, the same person that did Mississippi Burning, a little movie called The Commitments from 1991. Basically a comedy about a guy that puts together a band in Dublin to try and get out of there. The catch is they decide to play soul. I'm talking Wilson Picket, Otis Redding, Percy Sledge type music. Be warned, the F bomb is used a lot though out the movie.
A Perfect World (1993), I used to watch this all the time on vhs I got for free from a petrol station!! I never hear anyone talk about this movie, amazing performances from both Kevin Costner & Clint Eastwood The Replacement Killers (1998) The Corruptor (1999) 2 Chow Yun-Fat films I also watched on repeat in the 90s I never hear anyone talk about Dark City (1998), I wouldn't say it's underrated, overlooked maybe by The Matrix, but people do talk about this one!! Saw it in the cinema when it originally released & totally blew my mind 🤯 I actually prefer this to The Matrix & hope it gets the 4K treatment it deserves FACE (1997), British heist film staring Robert Carlisle & Ray Winstone, this is NEVER mentioned by anyone & isn't particularly easy to get hold of physically, I had the ex rental vhs tape of it & DVD I think, excellent film 👌 Love Honour & Obey (2000), another British gangster style comedy film, wouldn't say underrated, people used to recommend this back when it was released but I don't hear anyone bring this up these days, highly recommend this one Stir Of Echoes (1999), the better Sixth Sense in my opinion, massive fan of this Kevin Bacon gem!! Hope this gets a nice 4K someday 🙏 Striking Distance (1993), wouldn't particularly say underrated, but it's a Bruce Willis film I don't hear anyone bring up, great little who done it style action flick & the only film I can stomach Sarah Jessica Parker in!! 😆 Desperate Measures (1998), Keaton absolutely chews up every scene!! I think Garcia & Keaton work brilliantly together, saw this in the cinema aswell, absolutely love this film!!
Yo, never heard of the movie, shirts, probably pretty good. It is from the 80s and that was the peak of her effects and scares. Also, if you can later, try to find a Harvard updating some of what people have either forgotten or for some reason, don’t know, Everybody remembers tell us from the crypt, but nobody remembers tell us from the Darkside, they think it was only a movie, me growing up in the 80s as a kid, I was a avid watcher of Chelsea in the Darkside and another gem called monsters, although that came out in 89 and only had four seasons so, probably the last until 93. But yeah, I think, people need to be educated about what was what, I was such a fan of tales from the Darkside that I remember when the movie was coming out and of course we had to rent it. Also, again forgive my Siri, for she understands not what I say for some unknown reason, even though I do pronounce my words pretty articulately, tales, tales, tales, yeah hopefully she got that pronunciation right. 25:48
seen frequency, ice pirates, and My science project, only heard of second hand lions, man who killed Hitler, and Something Wicked, I don't know crossroads, Heavenly Kid, Pandorum or Next of Kin, and I love all those actors!. What do you think of 1981 Outland with Sean Conary, 1989 Best of the best, 1984 Runaway, 1990 Short Time or 1987 The Hidden? I'm glad we finallyMatinee from 1993
Seem almost all of ‘em, except Secondhand Lions, which never sounded interesting until this video, and the Sam Elliott Bigfoot Hitler movie. Crossroads has a fantastic guitar duel with Steve Vai (David Lee Roth’s guitarist). BYW, check out Steve Vai’s song For the Love of God on TH-cam-awesome! Something Wicked…is awesome and dark-dark is the right word! Ice Pirates is awesome, too. Love that one. A My Science Project-I wrecked a birthday party as a kid because we watched it at the party and i’d already seen it, so I was telling everyone what would happen next. (I didn’t get invited to the kid’s next b’day party. D’oh! Still feel bad about that. Sorry, Adam, wherever you are!) Good list; I’d add Krull to it. That movie rocks!
Hi Chase. I've seen most of these films, I'll have to see My science project. looks good. It must have fallen through the cracks of my bad attitude back in the day. Now that I am 62 years old, I have 5 for you. 1. Idaho transfer, Peter Fonda directed. not even on Blu-ray. 2. Gargoyles. no Bluray, but it won awards. 3. Circle of Iron Bruce Lee wrote starring David Carradine 4.Space probe Taurus aka space monster. a 1950s space movie made in 1965. no Bluray, and the VHS and DVD look bootleggie.5. a new film called Another Plan from Outer Space. I think it's just on TH-cam for free.
I'm gonna hold off for a while now that Sony has the deal with Disney and hope for a 4k...if it doesn't appear to e er happen, then I'll seek out the bluray lol
Just checked and Joe was released on blu ray by Olive Films. You can find it for $20 and under still but i believe Olive films is no more so i wouldnt wait to long to get it.

This is one of my fave topics. Criminally underrated:: the secret window, the 9th gate, the proposition, bone tomahawk, state of play, reign of fire. & ghost in the shell , with Scarlett Johanson. & winters bone.
Love Reign of Fire and Bone Tomahawk is absolutely BRUTAL in parts with the savagery!
9th Gate is amazing
The Proposition isn't underrated it's fantastic
reign of fire and 9th gate are awesome, 13th warrior too
@@AVAPopCulture my mother in law saw bown tomahawk cus her husband wanted too, she hated it, pretty sure she threw the disk away afer lol.
Oscar; Stallone as gangster going straight in a farce complete with luggage which gets swapped. Recommend.
Frequency is great. I was glued to the TV the first watch. Since then I have watched like 10 times and still spotted things in the movie that I've missed from previous watches.
Smae here! And I am still shocked I never hear anyone talk about it really...such a good movie!
I feel your pain. My ex got me to get rid of my collection too and I fell for it. 5 years later when she said I needed to get rid of the dog bc of her allergies, let’s just say Thor is still Daddy’s boy.
🤣😂
Children of Men just got better over time. One of the movies that I'm waiting patiently on a 4k release for.
Obscenely underrated films continued: '05/ Munich. '05/ Ice Harvest. '07/ Street Kings. '07/ We own the Night. '08/ Surveillance. '09/ Repo Men. '11/ Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy. '11/ Shotgun Preacher. '12/ Zulu. '12/ Savages. '14/ The Drop. '15/ Knock Knock. '16/ Triple 9. Birdman. & maybe the most underrated great film oat: '21/ Nightmare Alley.
I own Frequency on DVD and Secondhand Lions on Blu-Ray. Both great movies. My top 10 movies you've never seen (in no particular order):
Shhhhh...with the 7th Sign you might be spoiling one on part 2 of this list LOL
Just thought of 32 films that no one talks about & r grossly underrated. : '71/ play misty for me. '81 / Body Heat. '86/ Rivers Edge. '88/ Lair of the White Worm. '90/ Quick Change. '96/ Feeling Minnesota. '97/ The Relic. '97/ Mimic. '98/ Fallen. '01/ Original Sin.
you might see some interesting ones on the next 2 videos I do in this series!!! :)
These r also obscenely underrated: Cold Creek Manor, Cyrus, Copland, Color out of Space, Outland, Contraband, & Night crawler, & Red Heat. 19:05
Love Red Heat!!
"Copland" and "Nightcrawler" are both bangers. 👍👍
I'm going to look out for Frequency as well.
oh if you have never seen Frequency you are in for a treat!!! Something Wicked this Way Comes is a darker than you think classic!
Underrated movies continued: '02/ The Salton Sea. '02/ Spun. '02/ Demon lover. '02/ Bloodwork. '02/ Secretary. '03/ Dream Catcher. '04/ Spartan. '04/Taking Lives. '03/ Out of time.
Spartan! Bloodwork! Secretary!
Thanks Chase for this series ..please kepp it going and you may even be able to break out into genre specific versions of this! ie lost and forgotten... comedies / suspense / horror etc. New sub because of this series 👍
awesome!! thanks for subscribing! I am glad you enoy this series, I have a lot of fun with it!
The Butchers Wife. I just saw it again tonight in honor of my late mother. It was one of my moms favorite movies. And i gotta say, The Butchers Wife is a well written and well acted romcom. Demi Moore and Jeff Daniels have great chemistry
I am sorry to hear about your mom, Id be lost without my mom and I am in my mid 40s! great way to honor her with a really good film!
Secondhand Lions is one of my favorite movies. I have it on VHS, DVD and recently found the Blu-ray at Big lots. My son was reluctant to watch it with me but then he ended up loving it too. 😁
my kids loved it too! perfect storytelling!!!!
Great Movie! I have this on Disc: Frequency. One of the best movies I own.
Chase,
Just found your TH-cam channel (the "physical media algorithm" brought me here).
@AVAPopCulture
My sweet spot is late '50's to early ''70's.
I just ordered Crossroads on blu-ray by the way, still gotta get The Heavenly Kid!!
Crossroads was such a great movie.... Totally underrated and just forgotten.... Brilliant movie♥️
100% agree! Always loved it!
I've seen every film on the except for Crossroads, but do have copies of Next of Kin and Something Wicked This Way comes on blu ray.
2 of the most underrated movies oat are: Rush. & in the heart of the sea.
I have never seen Freeway! Almost just bought the box set with Freeway 1 and 2 from arrow but I don't blind buy usually and that set is like $70
Didn't know there was a 2. One is great with Reece witherspoon.& Keifer Sutherland.
Btw Frequency would be awesome on 4k. Such a great movie. Great baseball movie to go along with action, drama and crime.
@@grizzfrizz011 Frequency would be awesome in 4k!
'97) City of Industry.
Check out Drive (1997) ! It got a great 4K remaster within the last two years and is one of the most underrated action movies of the 1990s!
My Science Project got a Blu-ray release back in 2020 by Kino Lorber. It's an awesome transfer! Hope one day it comes to UHD 4k!
@@JeremyWaddell hope so! I think we have a good chance of seeing a lot of Fox and Touchstone stuff from Sony out of that Disney licensing deal!
'99) The 13th Warrior. '80) Where the Buffalo roam .
@@Darkuni "no streaming service owns me" is the quote of the day!!!!! here here!
Love Something Wicked! I have an original video store poster with the "Rent on VHS" Ad on it.
Oh that's awesome! Id definitely have that one hanging up if I had it!
I've actually seen all of them except the Hitler/Bigfoot movie. Never even heard of it. But now I definitely want to see it. :)
You are one of the few that has seen most of them!! Check out that Sam Elliot movie, it is unique!
...Gloria - Gina Rowlands
...the Possessed - 1977 an eerie slow burn, literally
...Flowers in the Attic - 1987 version
Flowers in the Attic is disturbing lol
'05) The Jacket.
'10). JONAH Hex. '16) Gold. '04) Envy.
Good list. I've heard of most of them, but haven't seen them all. Now I'm on the lookout, too.
now you have a homework list LOL!!! enjoy studying hahaha
I’ve already seen 90% of the movies you recommended. They are all really good.
that's awesome!
I love Pandorum. There will be a limited edition Australian blu-ray release coming in a couple of months.
I put in an order for that! I still want a 4k US release!
Out of all of those I have and really liked next of kin. I think I also I have seen Pandorem. I'm going to save this video. I like these movies you selected. I think I may have on DVD the Ralph macho movie too. Something wicked this way comes sounds really interesting. 😮
Other great movies, Powder, City of Ember, Ballistic: Ecks vs sever, Masters of the Universe, Krull, Flight of the Intruder, Bat 21, The Package, Ratings game 1984 with Danny Devito, endlass more
'97)Swtchback. & '03) Hightension.
People talk about Ice Pirates all the time. It's a well known movie, but it only has a score of 5.6 on IMDB.
There are several people in the comments who had never seen it 🤷♂️.... we have to remember that inside this bubble we may have seen more than the public at large!!
'14) God's Pocket. PSH'S last film b4 passing.
I'd like to see it on blu ray but it would be great I'm 4k and though I'm not a big remake guy, that one has a lot of potential as a remake!!
@@AVAPopCulture , from the way you described SWTWC, it sounds abit like Stephen King’s Needful Things.
@@2011Antidote it certainly has a little bit of that in it!
I loved crossroads. It's worth watching just for the guitar duel alone against Steve Vai himself!
100% agree!! that battle is epic
Pandorum is fantastic...
Some films I don't hear a lot about:
Cherry 2000
The Wraith
Hotel Artemis
The Virgin Suicides
Vesper Chronicles
Titan A. E.
1984
The Cell
Dark City
Equalibrium
Automata
Primer / Upstream Color
you're right! and dont hear a lot about those - though I think Primer just got a big release from Umbrella or Zavvi- cant remember which... but Pandorum deserves a big 4k release too in my opinion!
*sigh*
I'll have to check out Stephen King's Danse Macabre - Something Wicked The Way Comes just has that eeriness that settles in on you...
The Heavenly kid was on HBO a lot back in the day. 2 Dennis Quaid movies. Still afraid of Space Herpes
Yep! Heavenly Kid was on HBO all the time lol!!!
I cant recommend Secondhand Lions enough! Excellent movie! and thank you so much, glad you enjoyed the video!!!
I have seen all of these, and I must say…The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot is a brilliant film…Sam Elliott’s best role, IMO. In addition to that film, my list would include The Long Good Friday (1980), Ghost Story (1981), A Love Song For Bobby Long (2004), Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012), Diva (1981), Under the Skin (2014), The Duellists (1977), Dark August (1976), and Gregory’s Girl (1982).
such an underrated movie and role for Sam Elliot!
@@AVAPopCultureI updated my comment while you were replying…lol
Yeah, I remember hearing about Pandora, mixed reviews all over the place, never watched it, I think the reason why it probably didn’t get a lot of hype that here was because of the second transformers and Star Trek reboot that was coming out most likely got all of the attention. Pandora, sounds interesting. Reminds me of that old Bowfinger production, Kit, Ramsay, Kincaid, awesome hilarious Jim, Bowfinger., Also forgive my Siri, she doesn’t understand how to spell Pandora, so she pronounces this word. 20:05
gonna need several more videos to cover them all LOL
When you were describing Frequency I thought i saw it but I remember it having Michael Keaton, but after looking it up, I might be thinking of White Noise? I'll have to try to find and rewatch both.
Yeah white noise is Keaton!
'08) Train / (with Thora Birch.)
'93) This boys life. & '02) Insomnia
'14) St. Vincent.
I have part 2 of this video coming out Friday or Saturday!!
I'm a pretty big fan of both Ice Pirates and Something Wicked This Way Comes.
80s nostalgia, scares, and cheese! gotta love them!
I have seen Heavenly Kid and Ice pirates at my local Vintage Stock. I liked Pandorum and got the movie. Another movie that isnt talked about anymore is Space Hunter
I havent seen Space Hunter! I need to chck that out!
A Man Apart, if you want to see Vin Diesel actually act, Ned Kelly with Heath Ledger, Deuces Wild, The Great Silence, The Frighteners, The Spirit, Mr Destiny, Marathon Man, Over The Edge, Miracle Mile and all Bud Spencer & Terence Hill movie.
now dont go giving away any films for Part 2 and Part 3 of this video series LOL
@@AVAPopCulture OOOOhh I've got another list for your part 2 video
@@AVAPopCulture Just subscribed and looking forward to them. Forgotten movie videos from my generation are some of my favorites on You Tube.
Very good selection:)
thank you! glad you enjoyed the list!
One of my favorite overlooked movie is Only the Strong. Shame it's not on Blu Ray or 4k.
Ice Pirates LOVE LOVE LOVE was one of those Saturday afternoon matinee movies I loved to watch on TV as a Kid.
yeah it is a lot of fun! saw it as a kid at the "North 85 Drive In" theater here in Georgia !
I love Walter Hill, and I e never heard of that one.
Thanks for the heads up - I’m going to track it down.
oh man, Im jealous that you get to watch it for the first time lol! Highly recommend crossroads!
I feel like movies that don’t become franchises eventually get forgotten about.
that can tend to happen and that kinda sucks!
Frequency is SO GOOD!! :)
It really is!
I came up with about 30 and decided to do it in 3 videos

thanks man! yeah, We first got cable when I like 9 or 10 maybe around 87 or 88 (something like that) and I remember The Heavenly Kid and My Science project showing a lot then too... The Heavenly Kid I watched recently and it still feels the same to me, My Science Project feels a bit different BUT the nostalgia wins me over...Ice pirates I just watch and laugh LOL

Ghost World
Miller’s Crossing
Killer Joe
Braindead
Synecdoche New York
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
I Saw The Devil
Cure
Tora Tora Tora
The Lighthouse
The Orphanage
I would add a movie by Alan Parker, the same person that did Mississippi Burning, a little movie called The Commitments from 1991. Basically a comedy about a guy that puts together a band in Dublin to try and get out of there. The catch is they decide to play soul. I'm talking Wilson Picket, Otis Redding, Percy Sledge type music. Be warned, the F bomb is used a lot though out the movie.
Some great picks. I love frequency and next of kin. Especially when the hillbilly’s use their hillbilly skills at the end of the latter.
Yeah I love it when it kinda turns Hillbilly family vs Mafia family!!

A Perfect World (1993), I used to watch this all the time on vhs I got for free from a petrol station!! I never hear anyone talk about this movie, amazing performances from both Kevin Costner & Clint Eastwood
The Replacement Killers (1998)
The Corruptor (1999)
2 Chow Yun-Fat films I also watched on repeat in the 90s I never hear anyone talk about
Dark City (1998), I wouldn't say it's underrated, overlooked maybe by The Matrix, but people do talk about this one!! Saw it in the cinema when it originally released & totally blew my mind 🤯 I actually prefer this to The Matrix & hope it gets the 4K treatment it deserves
FACE (1997), British heist film staring Robert Carlisle & Ray Winstone, this is NEVER mentioned by anyone & isn't particularly easy to get hold of physically, I had the ex rental vhs tape of it & DVD I think, excellent film 👌
Love Honour & Obey (2000), another British gangster style comedy film, wouldn't say underrated, people used to recommend this back when it was released but I don't hear anyone bring this up these days, highly recommend this one
Stir Of Echoes (1999), the better Sixth Sense in my opinion, massive fan of this Kevin Bacon gem!! Hope this gets a nice 4K someday 🙏
Striking Distance (1993), wouldn't particularly say underrated, but it's a Bruce Willis film I don't hear anyone bring up, great little who done it style action flick & the only film I can stomach Sarah Jessica Parker in!! 😆
Desperate Measures (1998), Keaton absolutely chews up every scene!!

My Science Project-I wrecked a birthday party as a kid because we watched it at the party and i’d already seen it, so I was telling everyone what would happen next. (I didn’t get invited to the kid’s next b’day party. D’oh! Still feel bad about that. Sorry, Adam, wherever you are!)
Good list; I’d add Krull to it. That movie rocks!
Ha! So you were the one leaking spoiler way back in the day hahaha
We named our first dog jasmine because of second hand lions.
that's awesome! it is such a good movie!!!!
Remember IP and HK Adam in phantasm
I own everyone
Hell yeah! This is the way lol
Seen and enjoyed all of them. But I consume film like some consume comic books. With Crossroads, I've been to the bar where the duel was filmed
@darknagaadventures7884 it js a really good movie!
I havent seen any of those! rare that happens to me lol....my science project is a fun one
Once were warriors
Too bad I can’t find something wicked this way comes bluray at retail price.
I'm gonna hold off for a while now that Sony has the deal with Disney and hope for a 4k...if it doesn't appear to e er happen, then I'll seek out the bluray lol
Is Joe with Peter Boyle ever going to be on dvd? Im starting to wonder if this actually exists.😂😂😂😮
Joe has a dvd release. May be oop. I'm not sure if it had a blu ray release. Kino is a good bet on a title like that getting a new release.
Just checked and Joe was released on blu ray by Olive Films. You can find it for $20 and under still but i believe Olive films is no more so i wouldnt wait to long to get it.
