Great looking fly mate. Glad you can do a lot of different ones. Those would work great on those small mouth bass as well. Super way to start the new year. Have a great day and thanks for sharing. Best Regards Ken

      Hi Ken,
The Bonefish like this style of fly so they are a must if you are going to be fishing for them and I'm sure the Small Mouth Bass would love them just as much..I'm glad you liked the video and Happy New Year and all the very best for 2018...

    Fantastic Davie!
On a side note .. over here in Germany hunting is quite popular and they DO like their trophies,so I went to a taxidermist and asked if he had scraps left over...result!!
Got polar bear, black bear, jackal, weasel, mouflon (hollow fibers and great colour).. thought I would share this idea with everyone!
    Tightlines!!!!

Nicely done Davie. I used to tie these using epoxy before UV resin was popular. The UV resin is much nicer to use for a fly like this.

I have never went saltwater fishing. If one were to size this fly back to about a #10, and dub a rear body with a rib, I think that you would have a killer dragonfly nymph pattern. I've been working with the UV resin lately as well. I have a pattern that I'm calling "Watson's Flash Fry", and I wondered if you would take a look at it and let me know what you think. Best wishes for a wonderful New Year.
    Ken Watson

      Hi Ken,
Tying it in smaller sizes for a dragonfly nymph would be a great idea and certainly worth a go..Happy New Year to you too and all the very best for 2018..

Hi Davie. Tell me please which brand of uv cure epoxy and flashlight you use.

  • @Stagsden123

Great fly as usual Davie. Like the colour combinations too. On another note just getting started in the use of resins. I see you use bug bond and now fulling mill. How does the fulling mill compare with the bug bond and what torch would you recommend as there seems to be less expensive than others.

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Stagsden123,
I would have to say many of the resins are very much the same, I prefer a lite resin which suits a lot of the small flies that I tye mostly like midge pupa though you can build up a good head like the Bitters...
      All the very best Davie..

      Morning Glenn,
I use a Law vice but unfortunately it's no longer being made, I have attached a link to a video I made about it for you to see...They do come up for sale an odd time but can go for quite a lot of money..

Thanks Dave much appreciated from the land Downunder! Have you fished in Australia? Most of our river trout fishing is in Victoria and Tasmania for wild browns in the Western Lakes. Southern New South Wales has good lake fishing and high country streams..love your tying the best I have seen....

    Many thanks

      Hi Lewis,
I'm sure they would, as I do know the Gotchas have caught our mullet, I may tye a few for myself and give them a go this year...I would say Olive, Tan and Brown would be good colours to try..
      All the very best Davie....
