  • In this video Olly Thompson shows us how to tie an incredible all round saltwater pattern for bonefish, triggerfish - the Spawning Shrimp. He shows us some interesting shortcuts such as splitting the thread to make a dubbing loop and locking rubber legs off. Olly has had huge success with this fly during his time guiding on the various atolls in the Seychelles along with the Caribbean. He gives us a step by step in his tying process.

Sweet fly! Love the translucency of it. Will give it a go with clients down on Cozumel, MX when the island and travel opens back up 🤞🏻 Stay safe and tight lines!

Hello Ollie. I really like this shrimp pattern, very simple and sparse. Hopefully there’s some sculpting fiber in my kit to add a few in my box and try it down in Belize. Perfect little flats fly, but I’m curious, why do you name it a spawning shrimp without adding some roe colored dubbing? I find that adding some orange or pink helps trigger a good bite. Thanks for all the great content, I’m staying posted for more and all the best to you in the new year.

Why do you trim one set of legs shorter? Great tie and clear instructions. Thx!

Really great SS. Love the profile, state of the art materials and technique. Is the hook a size 3/0 or 3 and what size thread do you use?
