I love this track. It has strong deep purple vibes.
You should look up the live version.
    It slaps way harder live.

My favorite album of the newer era 👏
Strange Brew, Will O The Wisp, Spring MCMLXXIV are a few of my favorites from it. You'll find that pretty much just throwing a dart at the random board of Opeth will get you a great, interesting song. Some are more epic and grand than others (Blackwater Park, The Moor, When for example), but they have such a broad catalogue of gems🤘🧝‍♂🌳

Sorceress is probably my second favorite Newpeth album, right behind In Cauda Venenum. For Sorceress specifically, the other big one you should hear is Era. Strange Brew, Chrysalis, and Spring MCMLXXIV are also great. In Cauda Venenum has great songs like Svekets Prins, Hjartat Ved Vad Handen Gor, Minnets Yta (personal fav), and Allting Tar Slut. There's an English version for ICV, but I think the original Swedish version has more emotion to it.

He's done the english version of Allting, otherwise all great suggestions, though I love the fuck out of Continuum(english or sweed versions) and sad to not see it there lol

@@paravarium i dont have all the tracks memorized too much lol. I am more of an Oldpeth guy, but I do really like the prog rock stuff.

@@Nazareth1221 haha I understand man. I'm Allpeth lol.. except for a couple of songs off of Heritage. That album was really tough for a few years but I grew to love a handful of songs lol

@@paravariumI listened to heritage only once right when it dropped and then never gave any newer opeth a chance until last year when I saw them live and heard some of the newer songs. Decided to go back to see what I was missing and did a little marathon and went straight into heritage right after listening to watershed and I’m now 100% convinced heritage is better than watershed and it’s a top tier incredibly creative and overlooked album because of the controversy surrounding it’s release and the change in sound. Hearing the progression without the wait between albums makes the sound shift make much more sense and it’s almost as if you’re watching a musical canvas transform slowly and move from a cold forest into some sort of desert on lsd. Most unique discography I’ve ever encountered from a band.

To me this song is the story when my friend told me about his late girlfriend! The jazzy intro is his first image of her, being spontaneous, flirty, a little crazy and wild and playful. Dancing around with such confidence and getting everyones attention. Without a warning she turns evil, accusing him for the most stupid things, spies, lies, intrigues, insinuates the most absurd stuff about him and his family/friends. The mid part, after "it's only vice" is her turning back to "happy-flirty", trying to convince everybody he's been telling lies about her and that she's the sane of the two. And when the heavy guitars interrups her it symbolizes her getting caught.. revealing her insanity as a sorceress....
I told my friend about this and he thinks it's spot on!! "That's her!!" he shouted out! "Beg forgiveness with a dagger in your hand.."

Damn I was pissed I slept through the recording lol. If I were to go album to album and list songs worth listening to this would have made the cut. Mikael said that the opening was a little joke on people who said they we're becoming too jazzy, the song was the first single of the album so he thought it'd be funny to have this really quirky opening shift into just a real straight meat and potatoes riff.. it also helps the story telling that you imagine this unknowing fool walking through the woods all care free when suddenly he finds himself engulfed in an evil presence. Mikaels said this album was written while he was emotionally processing his divorce, soo yeah lol.

ah, that's why the intro was giving me strong Zappa vibes 😂
