Cool video. I enjoyed the honesty of your review. I'm glad I just went with the AT4X. It's got everything I could possibly want and need. The suspension rides amazing and it has an extra inch over the regular AT4. Plus it has 33's stock.

Falling in love with the channel more and more each video. I am hoping to pick up an AT4 later this year and want to do everything you've done so far (except maybe 33s instead of 34s). The way you balance the content with voiced over clips, camera facing clips and the music in the background feels perfect. its not easy to captivate an audience for a full video but this just feels easy to watch. I immediately thought of TheStoryTillNow in terms of quality but with your own spin on things. Excited to see what future content you put out and hopefully some of the outdoors stuff you mentioned. Keep up the awesome work

Spring rate doesn’t change. The rate is a static it takes x-lbs per inch of compression. There are multiple factors affecting ride none of which are your springs in this situation (you maintained factory spring rate). 1) the spacer is causing you to ride higher in the stroke of the shock, most shocks are designed to function in approximately the middle of the available stroke, that would be the designed sweet spot. 2) You’ve reduced available down travel, your shock is acting closer to its full extension stop; you hit a bump and rather than the suspension being able to extend down into the bump, the whole truck basically falls into the bump. 3) your assessment on completing the rear improving the ride due to weight distribution is partially correct; you have set the weight distribution closer to design intent also, you’ve returned the geometry of the front closer to stock relative to ground angle of attack).
    Nice looking truck!

    Hello there,
    Nice At4 lookss good.
Im thinking about buying an at4 in 2025 in sterling silver.
Do you think there would be tire rub with the lift kit you installed without carving out some plastic?
How do you find the ride compared to stock now that you've had it for a while?
And would you uae the same parts all around again?
    Thanks brother.

Love the build, enjoyed both video's, building a 2024 AT4 running Nitto 35's on the stock wheels with the additional factory 1 1/2" lift, only rubs a smidge when I turn all the way right, took care of it with a file.

    Lookin good!
    I bought a 2024 black Canyon AT4.
I ordered Black Rhino Barricade wheels (gunblack with beadlock ring) 17x8.5 and 0mm offset.
    And
    Nitto Recon Grappler 285/75/17
And doing a 1.5" level upfront only..For now...
We will see how she does.
    Might have to run 285/70/17.
But..I'm being told by others that this works with no rubbing on the 285/75 tires.
The 285/70/17 look like SUV tires to me and not "truck tires". So hoping this will be fine.
    Keep up the content!

Don't do anything else or fool around with replacong those tires until you take it to an alignment shop and have a full alignment done. Even if you removed the front strut/shock assembly and put it all right back together (with no lift kit parts), your alignment is going to be out. And when I say alignment, I don't just mean making sure it drives straight. It throws off multiple things. Great video and music btw

I have a 23 Sierra AT4X that I just put new wheels on. Funny enough...I kept the same wheel size and just had a local GMC dealership unmount the tires from the stock wheels and mount them on the new wheels. I've had vibrations ever since...even installed hub rings. Come to find out their road force machine is "wonky" and they can't get an accurate balance. I go Tuesday to a different GMC dealership to have them road force balance...hopefully that solves the issue.

Got my replacement rim, balanced out a little better. Swapped a new tire onto the new rim, and it got even better. All that said, it's still is not completely gone. It's still a little unsettled in the peddle and seat at 70 mph plus. I dont know that it will ever be right without hub centric wheels. Considering just powder coating the factories and going back to them. How did yours turn out?

  • @valachimus
    @valachimus 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Since you didn't adjust your speedo/odometer for the larger wheels your calculated mileage is incorrect. Obviously, you're going faster (based on your gps observation) but you're actually traveling further with each tire rotation as well. You will need to calculate the increase in circumference from whatever tires you had on before to get an accurate MPG.

My son bought 2 front tires for his Mazda from Discount Tire a few years ago. Left their shop and noticed vibration in the front. Took it back the next day. They rebalanced the tires and said everything was fine. Vibration was still there. Took it back for a third time and they told me that the rims are probably out of round and need to be replaced and there was nothing else they could do. Funny how nothing was vibrating before the new tires. Anyway, took it to the dealership and they rebalanced the front tires and everything was fine. NO MORE VIBRATIONS!!! Discount Tire employees are what they are. I have not used them for anything after this experience. Trying to blame it on perfectly good factory Mazda rims. WHAT A JOKE!

So, a couple things to note here. You don't measure what height you've gained that way. You mention the ride quality being awful until you added the rear lift, but the at4x comes leveled already 🤔
Also, as for spacer lifts/levels will always ride a lot more stiff than a coil (provided it's not set at the highest level) so i just... Idk i find it hard to believe you added this and the ride quality "improved"
I suppose everyone has a different interpretation of rough so when you say it was bouncy do you mean it was soft and the rebound was the bounce or did it make it ride more stiff which you prefer?

    • @TrailTherapyNash

I’m confused as to where you should measure the height you have gained then?? I’m measuring the spots that indicate approach, break over, and departure angles. Which are the most important parts to off Roading.
The AT4X is not level from the factory. That’s why every single company that makes a leveling kit for my AT4 also makes one for the AT4X.
I never said the ride quality improved over stock. as a matter of fact, I said the opposite, that it is probably bumpier, and that I’ve probably gotten used to it. What I said was that it was borderline unbearable with just the 2 inch lift in the front on the stock rear height. But it got much better once I put the 1 inch in the rear. As in better than when only the front was lifted, not better than stock.
Just some clarification. Thanks for watching.

@@TrailTherapyNash you're supposed to measure from the center of the wheel to the inside of the fender. Measuring to the body and rails will change based on tires being aired out or if they're worn down which would provide an inaccurate measurement. Sure, approach angle matters but you also have how ever many inches before of body before a vehicle is hitting its frame ( i guess protecting the body is sorta important) should invest in some real sliders.
The honest suspension companies i've talked with mentioned the AT4x already coming pre-leveled. Every company makes a leveling kit because they're banking on people being uniformed and just buying the first product they see 🤷🏻 thats how i see it.

Hey man, have you actually heard of anyone that works on these trucks specifically because every thing I’ve ever searched on TH-cam, is all about tundras and Tacoma and I’m sick of it! like why isn’t there any information on this truck and how to fit 35’s?

I love the look truck. However, as a 25 year automotive professional. This install makes me cringe. You've probably wrecked your front CV axles by leaving them in the knuckles while you pushed down to get the strut back in. You also need a wheel alignment now. A lift will throw every spec out. The issues you are having with the tires, and the fact you didn't have hub centre rings from the start. This is extremely amateur and unsafe.
If you had professionals do this work, you wouldn't have any of these problems. A professional shop( read not discount tire) would have told you that the tires wouldn't balance from the start.
Lastly. I hope you've torqued your suspension components correctly.

Thanks for the comment, and for watching. Shine some light on a few things for me if you can. Me, pushing down with my own body weight is enough to ruin a CV? Forgive my ignorance, but that seems unlikely being that they will incur far more force, I’ll be at at a less severe angle, then my hundred pounds of force pushing down?
I’ve already gotten a wheel alignment, it was the very first thing that I did after the install.
I couldn’t find exact torque specs for this particular truck, so I looked up some specs for similar vehicles to make sure I was in the ballpark.
And method race wheels themselves told me that this would be considered a “lug centric application” and never mentioned anything about pub centric rings. Like I stated, in the video, they are on there now, but did not solve the problem in anyway.
I have a very mechanical background, working on road vehicles is new to me. So I appreciate any opportunity to learn.

@TrailTherapyNash it would be worth your time to Google image search the inner workings of a CV joint. They are only held together with the boot and being installed into the truck. If you over extend them, the joints will come apart. Inside the front diff the CV spline goes into the carrier. The excessive side loading you put on those can damage the spider gears and carrier bearings. A lift like this will permanently change your cv angle as well ,which can cause binding in fully flexed situations. Of note when GM developed the lift for the Trailboss and AT4 on the half tons, that lift comes with longer CV axles to correct the angles. Frequently we see CV axle failure with cheaper spacer lifts, as well as upper control arm failures. It's so bad GM won't warranty an upper control arm without pictures to prove it isn't lifted.
Proper torque is critical, and final torque must be applied at ride height.
No wheel is lug centric. The weight of the truck must be carried by the Hub bearing flange, the lug nuts can snap if they carry the weight. Do not ever allow the lugs to bear the weight, they aren't designed for that.

Anyone who calls this a "truck" clearly has no clue what a "real truck" is. "Real Truck" owners NEVER don't do stupid stuff like sticking 40" tires on a stock Sierra 1500. 35" tires or bigger, lifted 2+ inches, V8 or larger, loud ass exhaust, 6 foot bed or longer, and sits on its own unique chassis. Thats how we do it here in Texas. You California city boys might do something different. I believe the Canyon sits on the same chassis as the traverse, and the Sierra 1500 Crew Cab Short sits on a Yukon's chassis and the crew cab long bed on the Yukon XL's chassis. All the other brands are the same way.
