If the 90's Ford were good trucks I must have gotten an aberration. It's been constant parts replacement. Right now it might be good for another 50 - 60 K because everything's been replaced. One thing after another. Just replaced the inner door handle again (2nd time will be a charm?) and the electric motor for the window (third one). Every single pump on the front of the engine except for the smog pump. Alternator, water pump, fuel pump, gas tank, transmission's been rebuilt. With only 165 K miles and to me that's low mileage. I know that because I have a different brand truck sitting my yard and it has over 280K on it and it still has almost all the original parts and know others driving the same brand and it's the same story. I think even the exhaust system is original.
It's all about luck. I've had two of the same toyota vehicles. One I paid 500 for drove it for 200k and it never broke down. The 2nd has been a fuckin mess so far, in comparison. 2nd one also cost me 6x more intial price too so lose/lose. That's how I feel when someone says 'this vehicle sucks' or 'this vehicle is the most reliable', it's all luck of the draw since you're likely buying it 2nd hand who knows what it went through, or if it was a friday car. Oh and to clarify, both are the same year and model and both were made in japan before toyota exported that to mexico.
@@ravenfeather7087 I have a 95 Eddie Bauer f150 and up until the rod knock around 145k (161k as of today) the truck has run flawless for me. I had the fuel pump and sending unit go bad in the front tank which i got fixed, I replaced the alternator at 155k do to low voltage output from the alt. not keeping the battery well charged and the lights would dim at night if I turned the heater or AC on full blast. Cheap and easy fix. Other than that, I've owned it since 88k miles and have not had to do anything except a belt, plugs, plug wires, cap and rotor, tires and brakes, fuel filter and shocks, and a small section of vacuum line to the climate control module in the cab, all of which are easy RnR's and general wear-and-tear parts. I'm owner #2 and the old fart I bought it from used it to tow his two horses around (aftermarket receiver and was welded directly to the truck, by someone who knows what they're doing I might add [I'm a commercial tech, welding is almost a daily part of my job]) so I am pleased with how well the tranny has held up. The knock is only present at startup (gone after 30-60 seconds depending on temp.) Today's high was 16*F and after about a minute of warmup the knock is gone. I run short OCI's due to engine age, and it does burn about a 1/2qt of oil every 2k miles, not uncommon or even surprising for a 24 year old 161k mile 302. For a vehicle thats 25 years old (24 based on model year, 25 based on build date), I'd say it's held up pretty well especially considering it was used to haul around horses which isn't really half-ton truck type of work anyways. 165k miles might seem low to you but you also have to remember the age. Things like rubber seals especially are definitely going to start failing, a 25 year old tire that isn't dry rotted is unheard of, rest assured rear mains and such will be similar. Even if use doesn't wear down a part, age almost always will. Regardless of make and model. The 95 EB f150 along with my 96 5.0 2x4 3.73 Limited Slip explorer (Very uncommon configuration) and 2013 4x4 5.0 f150 have all been great vehicles for me.The two f150's have 161k and 94k miles respectively (95 and 13), the explorer was a boneyard find from Nevada that was brought up here to Nebraska and repaired. It had 54k original miles when I bought it, it has around 88k now. I put a 135 amp alternator in it to replace the factory 95 amp to compensate for my sound sytem, and a new belt while I had the alternator off and and new plugs when I bought it and minus minor paint/body work, I've not done anything with the exploder and its been an excellent daily runner for me. It sounds like you bought into someone else's project unfortunately and it left a bad taste in your mouth for Ford's.
Yep, 302, 351, 460, or 7.3 is all I would consider. The construction company I work for has a 1996 F250 Xl 351 with like 400,000 miles. Ran hard and runs good

I drove a 7.3 diesel, no turbo, manual, extended cab, long bed, 4x4 F-250 with a 4" lift for about five years. It had a winch bumper but no winch, which made a great platform for checking the engine. I drove it all over the western US from just north of LA as far north as Portland and as far east as Utah. Twin tanks, very useful. I even slept in it in the Nevada desert some nights. I used to enjoy driving it around San Francisco, doing hill starts with the pedal operated e-brake and hand release on steep streets was amusing. But not hard. City drivers in CA don't push their luck with big work trucks, very polite when faced with a big metal bumper. One thing, unless that's his land, I have no time for people who deliberately trash trails.
I've had a few of these F 350s. They served me well. The best one was a 1995 7.3 5speed crew cab with the factory flat bed. One monster of a work truck!

Yes! An OBS!! Thank you! Love your show and understand the jabs at Ford, I do the same to GM and Dodge, but I always hoped you'd give one a go, even as a beater work truck. I have a 93 with a 5spd and inline six. That thing is a monster. Just did a turbo, injectors, and an RV cam. I'm 260hp and 448lbft at the wheel. Love the torque. Feels like a diesel with a few thousand more rpms. Falls on it's face at about 5700 though. But from about 1800-4800 torque for days.
I've owned 6 fords and haven't looked back. I got into a reck back in 2016 with my 2001 town car; hit a wall so hard the roof caved in. I walked away with a few scratches. Theyve never left me stranded. To each their own. Being 27 years old ive rode in/drove/owned fords since i could walk. Oh yeahhh :)
I use to own 93 ford, mine was a F150, that's when Ford still made a good truck. Actually still miss it. Now I drive a Tacoma, I know, I still have trouble saying it myself but It's a reliable truck, a very reliable truck. Mines a 2014 TRD sport 4x4 V 6, the best Tacoma that they have ever made. I've had it quite awhile, haven't had one issue whatsoever with the truck. That's why I bought it, I knew it had a good track record.
We still have quite a few of those 90s f series around here. I'm on the east coast and we do get our fair share of rain and the consequent salt and chemicals on the road. Despite that I still see quite a lot of them on the roads still being used by contractors. My son purchased a 1996 last year. It was an old farm truck so it was definitely a bit beat up but the body was in pretty good shape and so was the inline 6. It's like a tank and that inline 6 will last forever. Good old distributor cap, a blast from the past.
What you need to understand about Cali is that mud season lasts for like days sometimes. You gotta hit mud full blast and hard cuz it’s going to be dried out the following week lol then you have a couple more days before the dust begins again. Also, that’s not the desert 😂 You experienced Cali the best way you can: briefly.
If your looking for a powerstroke in a van body, they didnt come with intercoolers. No room for them. And yes the 99 and 2000 engines had forged connecting rods. Sweet looking truck by the way. Back when fords were actual trucks! I had a few late 80s early 90s and they were great. Bought a 00 expedition and that ended it for me. Modular junk motors! Keep up the good work! Your doing a kickass job on your channel!
The reason for the fuel leak is the switch for the low pressure return line gets stuck on one tank . If the tank is full and your using the other tank it will overfill the tank and then gas leaks. Mine is stuck on the front tank. I run the front tank until empty switch to the back and then when I fill it up the front still will have almost a half tank even though I emptied. The switch that fails should be on the frame rail underneath the driver seat.
Also, my crew cab, still has the made in canadialand stickers. Called The Boss from the dealer !as an aftermarket package. Dually, cc, "twin stick" rwd.
Don't worry about what injectors or hpop it has. Go ahead and get what ever injectors it comes with rebuilt with bigger nozzles and get an adrenaline hpop. Then she'll chooch real good! I love my obs psd. Only has 356k miles on it and has 520 hp.
Just glad you finally saw the light. I was once a Chevy guy, but thanks to the FoMoCo treatment program, I've been Chevy free for over 20 years! There's just somethin about a truck you can hit hard in 4wd and it doesn't do the splits. None of that 4L60E slip goin on, either. Oh, and the power windows will keep on workin, no slow drag - hell they're so strong they'll bust the welds on your wing post...wait, WHAT? Yep, the last trucks that came with the ashtray..err...wing windows from when MEN drove trucks.
I'm still a fan of all the older trucks, but I gotta say, these new ones are getting way better fuel mileage with a shit ton of power compared to the old ones. They just don't feel like the old ones though. My 2018 reg cab short bed 4x4 5.0 is a flat out rocket and still gets 18.5 mpg combined with 400 hp. Can't say that for the old ones unfortunately. Nice purchase though! Love the truck!
Not an OBS, but I drive a 460BB 1989 ford f250 from time to time at work. Things a torque monster. Not a bad motor at all as long as you can foot the fuel bill. will pull 8 thousand pounds behind it almost like it ain't there. But company just upgraded recently to a 6.6l Turbo diesel 3500 gmc. You can easily guess which truck I hop into first. Lol Beautiful truck though, Would love to own an OBS quad cab one of these days. Such a good lookin' rig.
Beautiful OBS. I run a 93 F150 with a 351, she has almost 400k. I wish I could find parts that clean. Up here in Canuckistan everything is rusted. I keep eyeballing the fenders and a few other bits.
Yeah!! Love the Fords, obviously. We have an 05 Ford van that still does ok. The fuse panel is really stupid though. Even my Mercedes had a labelled fuse panel!
Not a Ford guy for reason described in the channel but im still a softy for obs's. I worked a 93 2wd psd with 400K hard for five years and the only thing I had to replace was the clutch.
Cool to finally see a decent truck on this channel! 😂 If you’re looking for a 7.3 all the engines from 94-01 were forged internals, f series after 97 were intercooled and had split shot injectors and other junk. The excursions have some funny stuff too like glow plug controllers and other stuff going on. If you want a simple 7.3 get an early long block and just do some basic mods, hydra and 238 injectors on a stock hpop and some turbo and fuel upgrades and you’ll be laughing! Crank the fuel pressure up on a regulated return system, get around 65-75 psi and run crossover lines. These engines are simple, especially with the newer tuner support. Looking forward to watching this truck!
Cali's the place to get 'em. My '95 F150 may be the most reliable vehicle I've ever had but damn the rust has taken its toll. Love these OBS trucks, that F350 you just got is almost exactly what I want to find for myself.
Good choice, as far as I am concerned it is the last reliable generation. I know the newer ones aren't that bad but these are so much easier to keep on the road.
My dad's best friend in the 90's had a brand new full crew cab long box one of these. He had money. I've always thought it was a beautiful truck just for that memory even though I'm more of a GM guy
I’ve never owned a vehicle that has rust. Part of the reason I still live in Southern California, that and the off-roading. Oh and the weather is great, it was 70 today in January.
Yeah the rust sucks but the seasons have its perks. Building snow forts with the kids, skating on our pond, pulling them on sleds behind the quads. Cozy fires and a bitter cold that kills all the bugs
Love it, my second truck was a 97 f-250. It was from Pittsburgh sadly so it suffered the same fate as a lot of em up your way. That 460 probably has a bit more wind in the sails than my 351 had though.
I'm a Mopar Cummins guy but the first now car I kinda had was a 97 OBS F250 351w 4x4 owned by a company I worked for when I was 19-22 and it had 1000 miles on it when I got it and 80k when I left but that poor truck wouldn't quit pulled 15k + regularly, plowed snow and never quit. Also I'm a 18+ year mechanic now and those are the only Ford's built after 1968ish I can stand to work on
love the OBS is I have three of them standard cab extended cab and crew cab I cannot wait to see what you do with this love your channel anyway love it even more now best Ford truck ever made
I miss my '79 F150 Ranger that we put a built 460 in, I would pass everything but a gas station, but load it up with a 2 car race trailer or anything else we could think of and it drive like nothing was there.
When I worked as a tow truck driver this is the generation Ford we ran (mid/early 90’s trucks that were still being run almost 24/7 in the mid 2000’s were as beat down as you can imagine) still not a Ford as my 1990 Bronco left me stranded on more than one occasion even though it was well maintained I still have respect for Fords of this era will never be a fan of the 5.4 & 4.6 modular V8’s. the GM Ls based engines have my 😍 for gas engine of choice for that era.
By far my favorite trucks ever, can't wait to see it with my favorite engine... Hopefully you get a Cummins in there before I get around to doing mine. I just can't justify taking apart my 92 12v as it's my plow rig.
That’s norco/riverside area we call it the reserves, that’s awesome how close you were I wish I would’ve know I would’ve showed you guys some better trails 15 minutes up the road at lake Mathews
I bought a New Holland tractor in Canada and thankfully is said made in the USA. Didn't have to pay any duties or other big fees. Since this truck was made in Canada... will that help with returning it to Canada?
@@DEBOSSGARAGE Should be nice an easy then. I know on 15 year or newer you need a broker to handle paperwork now, not sure if that carries over to 16+ years old, if it does you can register online to do it yourself for around $130.
Love your videos. I’m in Alberta and in love with these style trucks. Great find. Can’t wait to see what you do with it. And if you ever sell it let me know!!!
Welcome to the dark side, enjoy the cookies. It is about time you came to your senses. And you got a really nice one to boot. A 7.3 will look real nice in there.
It'd be great to see you keep the 460 and plumb it up for CNG. It's a neat technology and probably cheaper up where you are than diesel, even with the inefficient engine.
Econolines didn't have an intercooler iirc. Also something was different on the turbos. Wastegate pressures maybe? Also the exhaust valve for warm ups. 99-02 were forged rods, 03 wasn't
It would be interesting to see you disassemble and clean a VGT. The one on my combine locked up, and not knowing how to properly take it apart, i sent it off for rebuild.

Haha! Welcome to the Ford Community Rich! Only thing that can make that truck better is a turbo 7.3 ...
460 makes about as much torque and more HP than a stock 7.3. Plus it's a big block.
Terminxman are you seriously arguing about gas to diesel. Haha 😂
@@Terminxman Sure. But fuel consumption on a 460 is insane.
I have a 93 F350 crew cab long back with a 460 and 5spd it out tows a 7.3 all day and is consistant on fuel economy always 9-10
well my 7.3 5 speed gets 2x the mpg and 376hp and 760 ft lb @@ajgurney5811
Dont drive it in the snow Rich! Keep this one nice, they're hard to find like that
Like what? The roof chopped off??
Sea Bass no one cares about the cab, it’s the unrusted frame that matters.
@@seabass3104 he didn't buy the truck with the roof cut off
Roger guys, I was being sarcastic.
I find really straight body ones with good paint all over junk yards.
The late 90s f350 crew cab long beds have a special place in my heart. Very beautiful trucks.
Don't worry about the mud in California. As long as it's not at the beach your good. Everything is rust free in California for a reason
Also, my crew cab, still has the made in canadialand stickers. Called The Boss from the dealer !as an aftermarket package. Dually, cc, "twin stick" rwd.
Damn! I wish we had rust free stuff here in Manitoba. Nice find Rich!
my daily is a 1990 f150 with the inline 6! in my opinion the 80s-90s are the best trucks made by ford!
Don't worry about what injectors or hpop it has. Go ahead and get what ever injectors it comes with rebuilt with bigger nozzles and get an adrenaline hpop. Then she'll chooch real good! I love my obs psd. Only has 356k miles on it and has 520 hp.
I used to have a '90 F250 with a 460 and a C6 trans. Got shit for mileage but for a gas engine that sucker could pull. I miss that truck.
That box truck you were looking at is a 6.0 powerstroke. I recommend staying away for the 6.0’s, they have allot of issues.
This is why your my favorite channel 🤘🏻
It's rare to find myself enjoying the presence of a ford owner... seems like a really cool guy.
I’m in Michigan and think it’s Minty. I’ve always wanted to build a removable hard top crew cab with a cage for the kids in the backseat.
Lol
Beautiful truck though, Would love to own an OBS quad cab one of these days. Such a good lookin' rig.
Beautiful OBS. I run a 93 F150 with a 351, she has almost 400k. I wish I could find parts that clean. Up here in Canuckistan everything is rusted. I keep eyeballing the fenders and a few other bits.
Yea buddy! Rust free Calie trucks FTW! You should see the 2000 ram 3500 Cummins I got a few years ago, 1 owner, 56k, from Calie, absolutely mint!
Top effort on the battery terminals, that stuff is so under rated.
Yeah!! Love the Fords, obviously. We have an 05 Ford van that still does ok. The fuse panel is really stupid though. Even my Mercedes had a labelled fuse panel!
I’m doing a 12 valve swap in my 1997 f350 cclb. With a zf6 behind the cummins. Can’t wait to get it done
It's hard not to love this era of trucks.
As a fellow Canadian, it’s absolutely insane how mint that truck looks
Beautiful OBS can't believe you did that to it
He didn't chop it the other guy did
It was 2 different trucks.....
Definitely one of the nicest bodies Ford made, sweet truck , super chill dude too
Cracks me up to watch you all blast through the mud out there in Cali. That ain't mud. Come over to the East Coast, we have mud.
I agree the box body's were the best I kw that man will be satisfied
Time he came over to the real trucks
Thanks for blurring out the logo 1:13
It was too obscene for a underage audience
Rated M for Mechanics
Finishing up the vid with the fuse box clip xD
I'm a Mopar Cummins guy but the first now car I kinda had was a 97 OBS F250 351w 4x4 owned by a company I worked for when I was 19-22 and it had 1000 miles on it when I got it and 80k when I left but that poor truck wouldn't quit pulled 15k + regularly, plowed snow and never quit. Also I'm a 18+ year mechanic now and those are the only Ford's built after 1968ish I can stand to work on
Such a cool guy. He should start his own channel. Great video guys! It'll be interesting to see what you're gonna do with the Ford.
His instagram is the next best thing
love the OBS is I have three of them standard cab extended cab and crew cab I cannot wait to see what you do with this love your channel anyway love it even more now best Ford truck ever made
I miss my '79 F150 Ranger that we put a built 460 in, I would pass everything but a gas station, but load it up with a 2 car race trailer or anything else we could think of and it drive like nothing was there.
Prefer the older GM's, but Jose is the man and cool ASF, great looking truck you got bud.
Ive got a 99 f150 with the 4.6. This truck works pretty hard for the gutless mobile
I know it’s cold up there but I didn’t expect hell to actually freeze over. I am a proud ford man.
OBS bodys were the best of both GM and Ford in my opinion. Wantin an OBS Tahoe but man, Ohio is tough pick'n for something that ain't rusted to hell.
Of course.. Jose just had to chop a beautiful obs..
Nice I just picked up a 97 7.3 5speed man trans 4 door long box an no rust on Vancouver island
Of all the ford trucks I have had, the Canadian built ones were always the most trouble-free.
16.5" tires are available up here through army surplus sellers. Petawawa area.
"Yeah small leak in the tank or something, nothin im too worried about." Said exact phrase about every vehicle i've bought minus the word Tank.
“Going to take a little tour of the area.” Cut to scene of land yacht & cue the 90’s hip hop beats... nice work Aaron 🤣
FORD--I love em and hate em at the same time!!
if you had bought a 2000 plus ford i was going to rage quit for like a week or 3 lmfao. fukin california tho i want a rust free truck!
Up to cb 2003 there great after that well
"california tho i want a rust free truck!"
That is exactly why I paid more for my SoCal Ford truck, cleeeaaannn........
Dam right
Hey Rich please make a video on the process of importing and shipping that truck. I am also in the market for an old crew cab.
thanks.
Seeing as she's over 15 years old should be too much issue with RIV, unless someone at the border flags it because of the lift.
No lift, she's stock with massive tires
I bought a New Holland tractor in Canada and thankfully is said made in the USA. Didn't have to pay any duties or other big fees. Since this truck was made in Canada... will that help with returning it to Canada?
@@DEBOSSGARAGE Should be nice an easy then. I know on 15 year or newer you need a broker to handle paperwork now, not sure if that carries over to 16+ years old, if it does you can register online to do it yourself for around $130.
@@DEBOSSGARAGE You should bring up some of the military tires . Fill the box.
I’m surprised you don’t see them around your area anymore, I live in Minnesota and still see them on a pretty regular basis. At least a few per day
I love this guy. He loves real Ford trucks. I'm with you brother. Just saying ....
Love these trucks, got one of my own in northern B.C. 97 7.3 powerstroke. Would like to see you put a 7.3 in with a Zf5 behind it🍻
Love your videos.
I’m in Alberta and in love with these style trucks. Great find. Can’t wait to see what you do with it. And if you ever sell it let me know!!!
I want more obs and even square bodies would be fantastic
So nice to see. I’m a huge Deboss fan but also a life long ford guy. Some of us ford guys aren’t all bad Rich. #Fordlivesmattertoo 😂😂😂
It would look bad ass with a big chrome roalbar and some KCs, and a push bar!
Great find Deboss, those trucks are good as gold with the Dana 60 front end. I remember having trouble with the auto hubs in the cold though.
Welcome to the dark side, enjoy the cookies. It is about time you came to your senses. And you got a really nice one to boot. A 7.3 will look real nice in there.
Oh no. This is getting a Cummins. No Rich that I know would waste time swapping in a PowerStroke.
@@markm0000 if it's for off road putting a diesel in it is about the stupidest tool bag 16 yr old idea I could think of
It'd be great to see you keep the 460 and plumb it up for CNG. It's a neat technology and probably cheaper up where you are than diesel, even with the inefficient engine.
I love those year crew cab, long box trucks.
Econolines didn't have an intercooler iirc. Also something was different on the turbos. Wastegate pressures maybe? Also the exhaust valve for warm ups. 99-02 were forged rods, 03 wasn't
not 7.3 Ecos, but the 6.0 Ecos do.
In 02 and 01 it's a gamble most in 02 were pmr
@@phillyphil1513 maybe that's it. I was looking at both before I went with the 7.3
It would be interesting to see you disassemble and clean a VGT. The one on my combine locked up, and not knowing how to properly take it apart, i sent it off for rebuild.
We use one as a crummy in a logging company. VERY thirsty, but would climb trees in bull-low, if you asked it to!!
Dude you should be Glad your in California. Back home in Ontario your not missing much. Here in Mt. Brydges to be exact we have been experiencing a snow storm all day long...
