I looked at him and replied "wrenches". He then wanted to know what I intended to pull with it and I said "anything I decide to". Had brand new sky jacker 6" lift suspension too, I sold the detroit locker from it for $700(the locker made it handle weird on the road) so I basically got the truck for free. Then I found a 91 W250 with a Cummins for $1300. I pulled the motor out, and sold the rest of the truck for $1500. So I got the Cummins for free, plus I made $200 on that. I spent $1700 on a Dynamic Racing C6 for it, and $1500 for the cnc machined transmission adapter plate and race flexplate from destroked. After tires, and all the odds and ends, I ended up with a total investment of $5500 for the whole build. I maxed out the fuel pump and built a hybrid turbo for it, added a 7.3 intercooler too. It averages 22-27 mpg and is a lot quicker than it looks. lol
I started working for Cat dealer in 1977. I was always involved in their truck engine business first as a mechanic then manager of truck center. Back then a lot of hot shot drivers put the 210 or 250 hp 3208 engine in their trucks. They all told me that the truck would pull a building over. 😎

I just found your Channel. I am an old motorhead from way back. You Sir, are what I call, "A Real Mechanic"! A breed that is becoming rarer all the time. Very impressive build! I didn't keep track of how many vehicles that you cobbled together, but it was more than a few. I got a good chuckle out of the Milwaukee battery powered seat and the hockey puck body lift. Quite the build! Count me "Impressed". REALLY NICE and unique truck. As Always, May God Bless you and yours! 😇
As a Ford fan of that era, that is about as perfect of a build (engine excluded as that is absolutely debatable, i do like the Cat) for that body style and intended purpose.
Wow. That came out way cheaper than I expected. I thought it would've been about $70K. I absolutely love how that project turned out. I'd love to see someone do a project with another Ford like yours but using an International DT466. Nice work as always Rich!! 🏆🏅🎖🥇
@@jbmorris2893 The weight would be the biggest detractor. A dt360 would make a lot more sense in a pickup truck. Same size as a 5.9 cummins and it's a sleeved engine.
I really like when you or anyone else is open about cost like this. It really helps people understand how much it takes to build something. It helps people who are building trucks for customers, it helps people who wanna build their own, and it helps people just appreciate how much time, work, and money goes into something like this. I’m even less of a Ford guy than you are, and I still like this truck and would probly even drive it myself, it’s a really nice build.
I enjoyed the whole project. Thank you for being open about the costs. I think it’s good for people to be informed as to what they might be getting into. I thoroughly enjoy your content. Keep up the good work!

You guys did go way above and beyond on this truck. Which the cost reflects to an extent. That being said it is literally a brand new 100% custom truck that you made exactly how you want. You won't have to pull it all apart in a year to fix the engine or transmission. Hilariously even if you count your labor some new trucks can cost 120k. Sweet truck! Probably my 2nd favorite behind the semi truck. Can't wait to see the boat video and lowboy videos.
I love that you use what’s available and what’s a deal. That’s a very realistic way to do projects like this. I’m not a new ford guy but I love these years of ford trucks. Thanks for sharing the budget
Honestly cost a lot less than I expected. I was expecting double at least. $48k for basically a brand new OBS with a Cat 3126? Shoot, if Ford were to make a comparable truck today, it’d be well over $80k. Maybe closer to 100. All in all, it’s been my favorite series on your channel, aside from the K100. I love your meticulous nature, and your want to make everything as “factory” as you can. There’s something to be said about that. Great job on the project Rich. I know you’re proud of it, and I am too. Awesome truck.
Thank you for putting this in a hours and materials format as well as strategies for success. I’m not a mechanic, I’m a self employed carpenter. New trucks don’t do anything for me. I’d much rather spend the same money paying someone to do what they are good at for something truly unique and reliable. Now I have a scope of what to expect in a format that I bill my own customers in.
Of all the builds I have watched and even participated in or even done myself this particular one makes the most sense to me and is probably the most desirable. It is the sort of thing you would build and be driving around 30 years later still doing what it was made to do. The perfect long term , long distance 4 ton tow rig. I would love to take it through some of the washboard roads in the Aussie outback as it would be great at that.
That really isn’t that bad. I would have expected that to be $70,000. With the awesome unique truck you now have that was totally worth it. You would spend more than that on a new base model gas truck nowadays.
Brand loyalty is stupid, and I appreciate anyone who can differentiate between the good and bad of any particular brand. Jist discovered this channel, the Edison truck is something I've long considered doing to a 3/4 ton, or a Suburban/Excursion, and after binging those videos it's made me want to get that idea rolling again. I'm a mechanic and machinist by trade, currently a generator technician (mostly big diesels), and this is probably one of my top favorite channels now. You guys and AvE hitting the top spots. What a spectacular crew you guys have, and the knowledge and expertise I've seen thus far is probably second to none in my experience on this platform. Incredibly impressed, and I'm going to look into reaching out to see about procuring some services from you guys when the hybrid business is kicking off full force. Absolutely awesome, so glad the BS TH-cam algorithm got something right for once!
I had the 5.4 triton 2006 f150 king ranch. LOVED the interrior, but i was threadlocking the sparks and retightening almost daily when i had the truck 2016-2018. My grandparents had it before me and used it once a month and it was at high 70k miles when it finally blew up, almost taking me off the interstate at speed. Now i have a 1993 f350 with a 7.3 idi and 4 speed auto. Saving for the 5 speed manual swap
Great project Rich. The fact that you don’t have to hear and see people calling it a “Fummins” for the rest of time would be worth it right there, let alone how well it works.
80k is most definitely worth it....New Superduty's are around the high 80's-low 90's,with all that DEF/DPF/DOC crap....I'd rather pay the same for something custom, one off and most importantly - Reliable!!.seen plenty of Fummins builds, but this OBS is a beauty..Awesome build man..makes me wonder how a DT466 in an OBS would work out🧐
Please DONT listen the the bay-sayers - I am very grateful for these open and honest price breakdowns. I love the transparency, as well as the understanding of the scope of these things. Thank you!!
The only thing it’s lacking is clearance lights, I’m a huge sucker for those roof lights. Otherwise damn is that about as perfect a truck as a guy can ask for👍🏻 I had 3 of those body styles, 1 regular cab and 2 crew cabs, all spotless clean. The last one I sold just before the price of those trucks went crazy. Got $7500 for it and probably could’ve gotten 10k more for it if I had known and waited a year😐
I'd go with the NLA (no longer available) Lund visor, with the built-in clearance lights. Snag up on those if you ever come across them, I have seen trucks in demo derbies with them!

What you said at the end of the video matches my experience, too. I got f550 axles for 1000 because I hate the twin i-beam suspension. Got a cab and front clip for 500. Got a fender and seats for another 500. Got a 40 or 50 gallon fuel tank for free. Now I'm trying to find a good deal on a rebuild kit and head for the engine. Cat wants over 5k for the platinum or gold kit (can't remember which one) but I'm not trying to pay that

To me, it's worth every penny, labor & all. I'm glad you built it & really glad you carried us along on the build.
My neighbor over the hill has a 94 F350 with a dt360 and a Spicer 6+1 that he still hasn't finished far enough to drive
@@leviduff2740 nice!!
I'd imagine the DT466 would be a tight fit. It is a big (and heavy engine).
Very linear and smoothly explained. Makes me think. Ive got a yard full of F 250 diesels. Two are 6.9 and one is a 91 7.3;with the e 40d. Im 80 and poor n wore out but--?? Really enjoyed your compressed episode. Stand strong and live free. Dandahermit
Good job, thank you for sharing this project. I had a boat with twin 3126 marine engine's rated at 420hp each.
Thank you!!
That is a truck that will literally Last a lifetime. So I think y’all came out great
The only thing it’s lacking is clearance lights, I’m a huge sucker for those roof lights. Otherwise damn is that about as perfect a truck as a guy can ask for👍🏻 I had 3 of those body styles, 1 regular cab and 2 crew cabs, all spotless clean. The last one I sold just before the price of those trucks went crazy. Got $7500 for it and probably could’ve gotten 10k more for it if I had known and waited a year😐
Agree, but please don't use oem style roof marker lights - use the modern LED lights. OEM style leak, & since you have no holes, use new lights.
I'd go with the NLA (no longer available) Lund visor, with the built-in clearance lights. Snag up on those if you ever come across them, I have seen trucks in demo derbies with them!
I like the transparancy, it gives people and idea of what they are getting into when doing a swap/build
You remind me of chip foose in a way w your mindset. Keep it clean and stock as much as possible. I’m the same way.
We had a 1992 GMC TopKick with the 3126 set at 250hp upfitted as an E-One Pumper. Allison Auto hooked to a Hale QSG 1000 gpm pump and had a 750 gallon poly tank enclosed by an aluminum fire body. Boy I miss that little bugger. "Little Engine that COULD!".
got myself a loadstart internationnal 1700 1974 , i am putting a jake brake 3176 engine in it. Not going crazy, just that doing it right i got 55k canadian roubles in it and its not near complete! if someone stole it, i will be in tears for years man! love thoses builds you do , big reason im doing my loadstar
If you ask my wife, my little truck was 4500 bucks. I'm sticking to that story. 🤣
i hope when i go that my wife doesn't sell my pewpews and my turbo silverado for what i TOLD her it cost to build it/them.... lol
That's really good advice about breaking the project up into smaller pieces that aren't quite so daunting. That works with any project and is a really great way to just do something to keep the ball rolling.
Definitely one of the baddest obs cat swapped trucks on the tube man I would trade my fixed up 2015 f250 6.7 in a heart beat for this gem 👍🤘🏽
You Sir, are thee Dr. Frankenstein of the automotive industry. You are a car doctor. You are an engineering genius….. absolute SEMA quality work 👍🏼
New to your channel.
Much respect from Los Angeles, California 🇺🇸
You forgot to factor in the cost of the Milwaukee 12 volt batteries under the driver seat.
Dude $50k that’s actually not bad
I’d drop 50k lol plus the 80k labor that’s $130 grand and for that truck it’s a great price really.
I might have to try that some day
That’s so cool how the subscriber’s help with the build and that you actually value their opinion. Awesome
What you said at the end of the video matches my experience, too. I don't remember who, but I was told to divide big jobs into small ones, do one thing at a time, do it well, and move to the next small job. I guess that is big project 101! Thanks for the video! You managed to build a Ford I wouldn't mind owning!😄
What a great project that will reliably work hard for a long time. If I wanted a vehicle built, Rich would be my #1 choice. I love these OBS Fords, and the CAT/Allison factor is much more than just the icing on the cake.
Less than a new truck and more as just as capable. Looks great.
You,sir have a very nice looking truck and I believe it will probably get you 500 to 600 thousand miles or maybe even more if you maintain it safely so please drive safely and take care of yourself and your truck and may our Lord be with you always.
This is amazing, I watched this video about 3-4 times and I decided to buy a 1969 Ford F600. You have inspired me to do a Cat swap, I definitely want to have that one of a kind truck just like you guys!
Amazing build, I wish Ford, Ram, and Chevy would build trucks like this again. Just imagine how many they would sell if they made 80’s-90’s trucks with modern engines and interiors.
This was not a simple engine swap.
It's more like a dream truck build with no expense spared.
In the end you have "Created"
A
Unique,
One of a kind,
Bespoke,
Master piece.
"Miester Deboss"
Thanks for that!
@@DEBOSSGARAGE Thanks for the heart Mr. DeBoss
Kinda funny.
My two favorite TH-cam build sagas both were completed within a couple months of each other.
Your most beautiful
CatFord, and the Volvogini.
It's a 70 something Volvo 245 station wagon with a V10 out of Huracan.
He just got it going, and raced in Sweden's sick week.
The amount of knowledge, talent, and work required for both these builds is immeasurable.
Your an absoult master of trades.
Custom and one of a kind...congrats
Amazing build, biggest thing it is what you wanted in the end. Thanks for sharing all the details and how complicated parts of that project got.
The 9th gen F-Series are my all time favorite Fords. Last year I detailed two trucks for a friend before being sold. An all original '93 IDI Turbo with 45k miles, still had the factory plastic wrap on all the seats and carpet except the front driver. The other truck was a '94 F250 with a 4BT / 5 Speed swap (originally a gasser with an auto), it had a 6" lift sitting on 37s.
7:00 - 7:04 "Tell em your Canadian aye." 😅😆
All the little things add up quickly, as well as being a pain in the ass.
Like the wiriing harness, dash, interior, steering column, and all that stuff that didn't just work.
Amazing job, with an outstanding outcome!.
Sooo I'll make up my mind about getting my late '90's rebuilt as my Dream FRANKEN.Truck... 🤑🤑
Really cool project ! I can see a lot of folks starting something like this and not finishing it for whatever reason money, time & talent. Thanks for sharing costs as well.
What a master piece. Super jealous. It's so beautiful! Good job!
Thanks for doing this type of video. I really appreciate knowing what goes into your different projects money-wise once they're up and running. Keep up the great content.
The knowledge in this man's head really shows in this video. I really am impressed, and not going to lie, jealous. nice build and good video. thanks for sharing.
I've said it before that the FTreeKitty is my favorite vehicle and build series you guys have done so far. Best sound track of the channel and you know I'm only here for the music.
Thank you for being transparent about the cost. I have 3126 I plan to play with myself.
Thanks I appreciated all the work you put into it . . . Love that truck . I also love the KW Cabover you do great work . But as a over the road truck driver I really appreciate the hard work in both trucks
You know.... this is the first video I have watched and I am kind of knocking my head into a wall for not following you earlier. I have briefly seen something about your Audi and I have certainly heard DEBOSS. I loved this video and I sure will have to do a lot of "catch-up" watching. Strangely..... this video shows so much more than a cost analysis. To me, it shows how reasonable you are and where your head is. A person to hang out with. Looking forward to whatever else you do. And BOY will I have to check out this Audi.
This and the Juice box are my 2 favorites on the channel. I love the f350 other than its a long bed. But its not my truck. I have an 09 f150 that i keep plugging away on and sometimes it gets daunting but when i see the f350 on here it gives me more than enough motivation to keep going.
This build deserves a sub! ❤
I love the fact that you kept the obs original in the outside. Love the body, lights, tires. I love the caterpillar letter in the back. Should've put "power by caterpillar "
❤
Pardon my envy. Years ago i looked at CAT 4 cylinder engines to go in an old f100. Finding a decent manual trans was my issue so i gave up on that dream. Awesome to see a better dream become reality. Kudos!
Dude...what a build!!! Sweet ride, when I hit the Lottery I'm running your way!!! Your awesome Dude...When I was at the homeless Vet shelter your channel got me thru some rough time. Thank you brother...I've been following you for years. Here is to your success !!! Are you ever doing a small truck conversion? Maybe like a Ford or Dodge???
It is an amazing build, very impressive. You should take on the 2024 Power Tour.
The best in the business DEBOSS STANDARDS, ATTITUDE, WORK ETHIC 100% GENUINE WORLD CLASS !
Very nice truck , you did a fantastic job. No substitutions from building it yourself, when there is a problem you know what it is and what must be done to fix it. It is long but on the road that will only make it ride better. Great job ! 👍
I like your build very practical you make it reliable and always available to use! Price I thought was very reasonable though also being in Canada you have to add 35% but a new truck is $125,000 or more here. Impressed!
"We did a body lift and just used hockey pucks" ... Most canadian thing ever! :)
Thanks for sharing this level of detail breaking down your build.
No matter what anyone else thinks this build is one hundred percent worth it 👌🏻
I usually keep track of what i spend on projects till about halfway through.
I'm not a Ford guy, still this is my favorite build of all times.
This is a fantastic build Rich, its a gorgeous rig and one that showcases your skills and attention to detail.
Great job!
4k for that truck was an absolute steal, even then. Also, that Mustang was gorgeous!
Seeing this project get finished and watching this recap video has inspired me to take on my own project, but it is very daunting doing all the work and trying to learn as i go. Im loosing motivation cause i found some rot spots in my frame so Im at a standstill of what I want to do lol. The little wins i get when i take something apart succesfully does help alot for my motivation.
you sharing the costs are appreciated more than you will ever know !!!! I am sure that I am not the only dreamer out there, so the information you share is priceless to all of us. I can't say thanks enough!!!!
Really appreciate hearing the ins and outs of what it took to make that beast of a truck!
I always like this model of Ford truck better than any other models they have ever come up with , Nice Job!
Hello wow I am so impressed at how much hard work you put into this truck. Your creativity was awesome the way you put together the truck how you updated the interior and all the well done customizations was awesome congrats. Your video popped up on my TH-cam feed so I watched it since I'm mostly a diagnostic and electrical auto mechanic, I mostly work on bmw's at our shop. I watched the whole video to the end and subscribed and now here I am typing a message. I drive a hand me down 05 Nissan Xterra but I have at home a 06 Ford F250 with the Power Stroke V8 6.0L when I got it was smoking constantly with hopes of Fixing it up nice, unfortunately after taking a lot of the engine tip end apart to get the injectors redone and replace the engine harness a bunch of life issues happened and basically my truck has sat broken down for about 3 years already and also I'm not a diesel mechanic so I kinda overwhelmed myself. I wish I knew a local truck shop, but I don't know of any. Respect From Margate, South Florida..
The best truck on the planet and u own it great respect brother
Thanks for giving such a detailed break down. It really gives a complete understanding of what a project like this really entails.
general motors should have put a cat instead of an isuzu in their trucks. i like cummins and cats. one of the best builds ive seen. more than one hell of a job! perfect amount of hp to boot. awesome as always.
Cat was totally against the use of their products for automotive applications.
im currently building almost the exact same thing. Mines a 1990 f350 cab and chassis single cab. im going to run the zf5 manual. and Ya im about 12 into it now.
i also own a 1996 f350 4 door long bed 4wd 7.3 psd auto. no rust.
The amount of effort you put on making this rebuild was so impressive.
My 3126 I got fully dressed for around 800. I found an allison 3060 for 1200. I got a clean frame for 200 sold the beat up bead for that lol. Cat wants over 5k for the platinum or gold kit (can't remember which one) but I'm not trying to pay that
You’ve got to be the most talented mechanic on the planet. Well done, love that ford.
It is definitely one of the coolest builds I've seen over the years. With the interior you you did so awesome.
I have a 2004 Thomas conversion with the 3126. I drove a lot last year, with one break down. Fixed a loose gear, but it also needed a new harmonic damper. So my experience matches up with the other suggestions to buy a new one.
I'm not a Ford fan and I love that truck. I have mad respect for your vision when it comes to these vehicles and how you go about it. Straight up honest to goodness cool...
Best regards from Indiana, USA.
Thanks man!
@@DEBOSSGARAGE you are welcome. However... the '55 really ought to be pearl white or maybe candy apple red.. haha, just me. Love that truck too.
Made me happy to see the frame being hand painted with a brush a gallon of paint. Classic
Same with money other hobbies it’s all about the satisfaction and joy of watching the finished product
I absolutely love it. I have always wanted to build a one of a kind, I did it my way and don't care what you think, doesn't have to be anything special car/truck. I also appreciate this video that breaks it all down. That was all great information. Keep it up!!!
Best looking rig you’ve built!! I have two 95 gen 9 F-150’s and love them!
Thanks Rich I just have to be satisfied enjoying watching you do it ,Australia isn't really financially favourable to car Resto everything parts wise has to come from US so import duties bite you big time ,but the big problem here is all modification work has to be designed and certified by an engineer and they charge big because of the possibility of Litigation ,so if you don't have deep pockets we just watch you ,oh and also insurance on modified vehicles is nearly impossible ,but enjoyed the break down of cost
Cheers Kym

You can spend 120k on a truck in canada and sure you have warranty for some time but in this case you literally know every inch of that truck which makes fixing it fairly easy. This is definitely my favorite build so far along woth the Kenny. Im a kenworth guy but definitely not a Ford guy with the Chevy tattoo on my back 😂 Still i find this the coolest truck on the road which i attribute to the unit engine choice and how far you went with purpose building of the truck. Also I am excited for this type of video on the work truck sclb. 👍
