    I LOVE your swatching videos ❤
    Pleasantly organized, great lighting and video quality, shot close enough, insightful commentary...
    And especially - perfect pacing! Slow enough to see what's going on but fast enough that you're not making my ADHD brain screetch "Omg just open it!! TODAY!" (which keeps happening with many other TH-camrs 😅)
    These are super helpful to me when I'm trying to decide what paints to buy. ☺️

    This swatching video is so so relaxing and well-filmed. How you progressed with your swatches is exactly how I did my DS dot card😂. I stayed away from the letters and tried to keep it neat at first but then progressed to go over everything to "test the transparency"😅.

      hahahahha🤣🙈 you got me!! i thought about staying consistent but i was like “oh what the heck! people can read it even if i go over with paint” 😂 and thank you for the well-filmed/relaxing compliment. took me a long time to edit but finally got there haha 🤣

    I have a great love for cobalt blue PB28. I do a lot of landscape paintings and cobalt blue is an acurate colour for the sky in my area. My favourite through the years is actually the Lukas version. I´ve found it lovely to work with, the hue is excactly what I need as well as the texture, granulating, easily liftable and slightly milky. And it doesn´t hurt that it is more economical than other cobalt blue in my area, since I do use a lot of it.

      i've actually only more recently startted using cobalt blue more and i can definitely agree with you. it's such a lovely blue to use!

    Warning: Saturn Red PO 64 is suuuuuuper fugitive! Like Alizarin level. Kimberly Crick has a video. I got it in a palette and I don't like it either, it's unpleasantly opaque. Highly recommend Transparent Orange instead.

    I feel the same way about Payne’s Grey, sometimes i see brands that have ones that are so deep I swear it’s a straight grey, whereas some brands have a vividly deep blue (I grew up being taught the deep blue was indigo) I love how some colors can range so vastly from brand to brand

    • @PaintinHiding

      riiight?! i'm glad someone agrees with me! yeahh sometimes i describe colours and people are like "wth is it indigo or payne's grey?" lol

    Lots of beautiful colors. I agree on the Mahagoni! But I also love the Cobalt blue deep. I is a bit hard to rewet, but so beautiful. I feel it the dot might have been to small to show it. Thank you😊

    I have the dotcard too but I don't understand why they don't write the pigments with the colors there.
    Even if it's small... (I need my reading glasses anyway, so I would need them for that too), but it would make more sense to me instead of looking them up in another source of documentation. I want all my data in an eyeblinck and even though I can match a lot of colors and pigments by heart, with mixes and special names it's not the fact.
    Great Veedio again. Thanks. Love you calm way of working even through those longer items.

      (apologies for late reply, i didn't get a notif for your comment) i knooowwwww, i could complain as well! i wish the pigments were all on there. but u know what, if i didn't make these vids, i probably wouldn't complain much because i quite like swatching and just being able to experience the colours and make my own decisions as to whether i like it or not. sometimes i'm drawn to a colour just because i know the pigment number, which sometimes doesn't end well because some of the pigments are more expensive than their neighbouring colours.

    I really enjoyed your video and I'm learning more about single and multiple pigments. I'm also looking to get new watercolors that are more professional after using student grade ones but I have invisible finances, so what can you recommend?

    • @PaintinHiding
      @PaintinHiding  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thanks Dora :D glad you enjoyed :D i'd recommend shopping locally. what artist grade brands are most affordable and accessible to you? if you've been playing with student grade watercolours already then you'll have a good idea of which colours you like or use most often. use that knowledge to decide what colours you get. i have several vids on my channel to help you avoid buying duplicate colours from different brands. and i'm sure there are also other art youtubers with such content. feel free to comment to ask me any time if you ever need a second opinion :)

      @@PaintinHiding I've been an artist well over 55 years and have done mostly oils and some pastels, but I can draw just about anything and do extremely detailed work with graphite and colored pencils. I always wanted to try watercolors but it always looked hard to do as far as controlling the water, but I took the plunge about over 3 years ago and became hooked! I also got into acrylics (not my favorite medium but I do it anyway), but I've tried gouache but didn't like the chalky look and finish of it so I didn't continue with it.
      BUT... I've fallen in love with the Michael Harding watercolors after watching his videos, and how incredibly pigmented and smooth his paints lay down- but the prices are off the hook and my money tree isn't taking to me anymore 😭😳😆👩‍🎨🎨🖌️
      Oh yeah - the watercolors I started with was the 18 piece set of the Reeves, the pigments are pretty decent and their gouache is highly pigmented, but there are so many other colors and pigments I want to try that they don't make.

    Nice swatching video , but you should think twice before buying helio turquoise Pb16, I know this sounds weird but this colour is a fugitive one. It faded within weeks in my lightfastness test and magenta also changed its hue.

      @PaintinHiding  ปีที่แล้ว

      I was shocked and disappointed with this pigment because I bought 3 half pans of this color from a local store when they were on sale.schmincke's other phthalo pigments are very lightfast according to my lightfastness test and I think they are a better substitute.

  • @ari_9354

    yey, a long swatching video. ah schmincke a pretty expensive brand over here but very competitive price on jackson's. some note :
    - holbein has a PY110 and i find them pretty great for rewetting, maybe the sample size is a bit too small ?
    - i wanna get their manganese violet but it's a series 3 which is pretty expensive even for me, and i believe other brand have a cheaper manganese
    - their french ultramarine is so beautiful, i'll probably get this one since i love the granulation
    - i agree their burnt umber is just so beautiful, i don't mind if it isn't granulation either but i'm also curious about roman szmal cyprus burnt umber
    i think that's all, for schmincke i'll probably got some of their paint that they use for the super granulation line, like french ultramarine, mahogany brown, maroon brown, and probably manganese violet as well, i just find schmincke such a beautiful paint to use, like W&N but schmincke has a better selection of earth tones.

      haha~ this vids take so much time for me to edit so im glad you enjoy! i have daniel smith filmed but havent gotten around to editing it much yet. 😅🙈 ohh yessssss schmincke mahogany brown, sooo beautiful. for the manganese violet, i think i might actually prefer roman szmal’s. more affordable and pigmented.

    Oh boy! Just started watching but already giggling about the transparent ochre. I bought a tube of that. It's horrible and a very weird texture, so that's probably why your dot is weird. Oh and the color chart is available as a downloadable PDF as well on Schmincke's website.
    Oooh, you blew right past Permanent Carmine. I Iove it and it is very true middle red, warmer than most pv19. I haven't found it to be opaque in a way that bothers me. It's the closest to real Alizarin that I've seen (similar to the DaVinci Perm. Alizarin Quin but it lays down so much more evenly!)
    Although, I do hate the opacity of the Helio Turquoise PB16. It's also very blue, not green enough for me.

    • @PaintinHiding
      @PaintinHiding  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      oh that's why! i thought it's just my dot with the transparent ochre~ such an odd consistency! i dont think i've used much of real Alizarin so i didn't feel right to comment on similarities or differences >_
