You're a wonderful friend. ☺️ I would be thrilled to receive such a thoughtful gift, assembled with such care, especially from a friend. There is something so precious about someone with no relation or responsibility to you, caring enough about you to curate or create something just for you. The fact that you are mostly using from what you already owned makes it even more special, IMO. This is so much more personal than just buying something. I bet that if this becomes an outlet for them, things like that bag will become treasured items that still get used regularly long after they look like they should be tossed away. Since you asked and I've been lurking here for a while, here's my way too long story on how I found your channel and the art gift I'm putting together- My mother was my gateway to art. She is an incredibly gifted artist. Even when I was very young, she always shared her good (and barely afforded) art supplies with me. At that age, art was such a huge part of who she was, but the years slowly took it from her. An abusive marriage and bad circumstances forced her to make hard choices. She sacrificed her genuinely astounding artistic talent, the life she wanted, and the thing that brought her the most sense of completeness, to work an especially hard job for four decades and take care of her family and responsibilities. I owe her so much, including my love of art, work ethic and sense of duty. The work destroyed her body. She's always in pain and her hands tremble now. She's finally retired but is still a full-time caregiver and never even tries to create. Every now and then, she doodles something while on a phone call. Shaky hand, cheap ball point pen, scrap of old bill envelope and barely paying attention... still makes better art than anything I've ever made. All she sees is the loss of the ability to continue training, practicing and honing her talent, as well as the loss of physical ability the years have caused. I think she's intimidated by that loss of time and dexterity... and maybe heartbroken by it. I think she's mourning like its already too late. ...I'm determined to give her that part of her life back while she still has time. She doesn't know yet, no one does... but I have been watching videos, reading blogs and compiling recommendations; buying things as I could and squirreling them away. I'm building a well-rounded and personalized starter set of every medium that I can think of that could be easily accessible for her and her circumstances. I want to give her a place to start finding joy in art again. I'm trying to make it as approachable as possible while still respecting what a true artist she is. Like you, I ended up getting some cute bags and things that would be inspiring to see and make it easy to take her supplies anywhere comfortable. I also made sure she had her favorite colors... even some sparkly, jewel-toned markers, cuz she's a sucker for that kind of thing. I bought a mix of cheap paper and the good stuff, so she can either go all the way or have something to work on that's not too precious to ruin... I even remembered that all those decades ago, her pads were all Strathmore, so that's what I got. I can't get everything she could possibly need but I'm hoping to give her several places to start that don't require a whole set up and break down process. I want to make it as fun as possible for her, no stress or ordeal, even if she only has a little time; but with products that can hopefully match her expectations of quality and not impede her progess or enjoyability. Admittedly, there's a little manipulation involved because with so many supplies, I know she really can't de-priorotize it like she does everything else for herself. I was going to start really small so it's not overwhelming but realized that if I put way too much effort into this, she can't just set it on a shelf and forget to try it. But I made several different small sets so hopefully it's still not overwhelming. If I know her, at some point, she's either going to get curious or feel guilty, but either way, she's gonna start and I really believe the joy will follow when she does. Also, I made myself start watercolors recently and am intentionally making some very bad art and reveling in it in front of her. I'm trying to slowly break down both of our resistance to being able to let go of expectations of outcome so we can just make art out of love of the process... like kids again. If my plan works, I'll continue helping her get more supplies as she develops more preferences. I can not tell you hard it is for me to be this planned out and manipulative but desperate times call for desperate measures. You've heard of "malicious compliance", I'm inventing "manipulative compassion". 😅 I really hope I'm doing this right. Her birthday is the first week of April and I'll have everything by then. Fingers crossed that this works. 🤞😁 I want to add a huge thanks for your content and the effort you put into it. I haven't been able to create much for the past 2 decades and am trying to start again as a form of therapy. Channels like yours have been invaluable, both as inspiration and as an educational shopping guide for the financially challenged. 😅 I respect what you're doing here so much and you seem to be one of the loveliest people. Are u kidding? Why are you obbsest with it saying raphael? Even if it did say Raphael on them it wouldnt help you know What brush it is? Itbwould need to say brushmodell not raphael. This is so Strange to me, you didnt even check if the brushes performed well all you Cards about was for it to have the name like you just baught sa Vinci maestro 10 or some even more expensive brush x) I get it, it’s easier to know what brushes are inside. But how many other brushes do you have with that distinct look. I just dont get it

Can see the cloudiness of the filler but it's not as bad as the cerulean imitations that are full of white.

I put together a 48 half pan set of Daniel Smith watercolors for a friend around this time last year. She’s already pretty familiar with and uses watercolors so it was incredibly fun to put together such a large set for someone besides myself. Additionally, I put together a 24 half pan set of QoR watercolors for the same friend when she expressed an interest in trying out that brand. I enjoy the process of creating custom palettes so it’s always a fun endeavor to do it for a friend. I hope you enjoy getting to know your new friend.

When my sister expressed interest in watercolours I got so excited! She bought her own stuff but it’s all very cheap stuff and she said it is biting her in the ass and making learning difficult and not so fun. So for this Christmas, I’ve made her a little watercolour kit with nicer supplies❤️ I hope they make the learning process easier for her. I can completely relate to the joy you feel about making something nice for someone getting into watercolours😁

How exciting! I have given away quite a few palettes over the years and a split primary is the best way to start! I would only ever give one green, it is more important to have more yellow options like an Azo yellow or a raw sienna and to have that lighter color for mixing or having on hand as you can not make colors lighter when mixing watercolors! I might do a neutral tint over the black. I might do a Prussian Blue for mixing my blacks too. It does depend on who you are mixing for and if they have experience or none! Having the "special" color of paint is a grand idea for keeping their interest! I have included potters pink to a turquoise blue for creating jewelry ideas that the person was creating too! I am glad you are doing well and I wish you and your family happy holiday's!

I did a similar kit as a gift for a friend. She loved it! She lives a three hour drive away and we get together a few times a year. We love sharing our lives, our other hobbies, and of course, our creative journeys. Oh, and food. Field trips to one of the best art suppliers! We have such a great time!

Very cute video. Im just getting into watercolors after many years, too, and I love my new palette. It's just so pretty I almost dont want to use it! I low-key want to make my own palette with full pans with a more limited palette to use as my practice/travel set, but that seems so excessive hehehe

I will love if one day I have a friend to share my hobby and I fell confort to share my collection, I did a friend colegue , but everytie she say you have so much when I comment about mechanical pencil that when she came to my house to we paint toguether I pre select brush , paper and paint to not be jugde , my mechanical pencil collection exist since I was a teen now I 'm 38, and watercolor sinse 2020. I'm not regret that I buy a bunch of thing , with the new awfull taxes system it will be moooooore difficult to get new paint with less expensive prices , and I don't have friends to share some paper swatch paints, so I have to buy. My friends is not much spending money she uses pentel 12 colors watercolor and don't plan to buy new brands or colors , or new colors to try , I give her some van gogh half pan of my tubes too , so I prefer don't show my collection , but I miss talk about the collection with someone , not only my head. I hope you and your frends have a great date art , and they like watercolor to you paint toguether.

I am so glad you found a friend to share watercolor with!! (I am also so happy to hear from you!!! I hope you are doing well!) The online art community is great! But meeting someone in person to share love of watercolor and art with is a very different and special experience and feeling! The palette you made is beautiful, and I did NOT think at all "why didn't you buy a new palette"! The palette you chose looked brand new, but also it is such a beautiful gift to share art supplies from your own stash that you have carefully handpicked and love and cherish. If you are anything like me, then you probably care for and protect your watercolor supplies like they are your most precious possession (or one of your most precious possessions!). And so it makes it even more of a beautiful gift for you to share and gift this to someone!!! I would have loved for a friend to handpick supplies from their own stash to gift to me when I was a beginner-and I would still cherish the palette and continue to use it after the paints ran out! I am sure your friend loved this gift! This was such an awesome video! Thank you for sharing it! 💗 🤗

I love this! I made a beautiful palette with one of the empty QOR 12-pan sets for my niece’s gentlemen friend at thanksgiving. I very carefully filled the pans with 20 colors of my favorite brands. It was a little pink/red dominated but I didn’t realize it till after I gave it to him. I also found about 6-sheets of Fabriano hot press (9x12) and 6-sheets of Arches cold press same size, then a pad of Strathmore 400 series watercolor paper for practice for him. He’s really interested in all of it, so it was such a joy to visit with him and share what knowledge I do have. I wanted to give him samples of both hot and cold press because I feel like there’s such a difference and I know I have a definite preference that feels more fun to me (HP!). He’s the first in-real-life person I’ve met who wanted to discuss the wonderful world of watercolor. Sometimes I feel isolated in this obsession that makes me so happy-and I didn’t realize how much till I had the opportunity to socialize around it! You’re such a generous friend and I really resonated with this. And I’m always happy to see you here. Oh! And I gave him a silver black velvet round size 8 and a 1/2” wash brush!

Where do you buy colorful palettes? I'm so tired of the black one and the white one with the paint splatters on it. Why don't you sell watercolor kits ? You could get rid of a few colors and buy new one's from the money😂
