Yep the larger red wire should be the main battery feed. The sw is usually an ignition or switched feed old harnesses it may be the red/black. So you basically just sent battery power to the system telling it to turn on. You'll want to disconnect when you park to not kill battery
My XVPlow is dead. I have power everywhere I checked in all the 11 SW valves terminals but the plow won’t do anything. I changed the plow side module didn’t do it I changed the plow light plug didn’t do it. Next am going to jump those 2 wires the 12V & SWC to isolate the isolation module to see if it works! Thanks a bunch man for your video. I bet it helped a lot of people.
I did swap out the truck side isolation module and the plow motor Solenoid but nothing happened then I pulled all the wiring and OHM metered each pin each connections all the wires were good. I almost throw in the towel. Just couldn’t figure out what’s wrong with the friggin plow. Then I decided the try my friend’s controller… suddenly the plow came back to life. Man it was the control that was bad. Never thought of that because I kept it in a nice dry place all the time when not in use. Folks. If your plow goes dead. Start with the controller first instead before wasting your hard earned money on other parts parts.
I want to thank you for this I had to do this this winter. But still have a problem with my uni mount . I thing it only works for up and down won’t work for right to left only works towards driver side but thanks for your tip
Thank you. This video is very helpful. I have had to replace that isolation module at least 3 times on mine. I believe it has to do with electrical load. One of my 2 alternators went bad and the voltage was dropping lower while raising. I believe that ate 1 of them.
ill try this 2maro i was checking all my grounds all looks good i noticed it kick on and off and on the plow like a bad ground or loose wire i replaced something looks like i have no lights at all most the time so i thing may try jumping it see if the plow cutts on and off still or try useing another controller i noticed when i unplug the wiring harness and put it to factory it works as it should, i tested light make sure they work too low and high
I think it's primary job is to switch from truck lights to plow lights but all the wires go through it. What is your plow doing? Will the controller power on? Do the plow lights come on when plugged into the truck?
@@mossman381 there was clicking at one time. I cant remember if it still clicks when i push the button. I think it’s flashing because there’s a loss of power. My next idea is to replace the power cable 4 pin plug
I have a question before I order anything... I replaced my plow module 2 months ago from it shorting out and only giving power to 2 of 3 solinoids... now I lost all power and headlights on plow but my remote is flashes red. I checked fuse for controller and I also checked plow fuses. I’m not sure what it could be? I just saw your video and hopefully you have an idea what I should do? Maybe my isolation module has gone?
Something like this is difficult to diagnose in person let alone from a comment. Remote flashing red I believe means something isn't getting power. When you do the bypass does the plow work? If so I would probably look at the iso module as the problem. How old is the plow? Have you looked at the plugs to make sure they are in good condition and the pins are all making good contact.
@@mossman381 the plow is less than 5 months old it’s an ultra mount so I’m confused why I’d be getting so many issues in just 1 season of work... I haven’t done the bypass yet I am gonna attempt that later after I cal the western company later to hear from them who installed the plow 4 months ago. I’m thinking it’s the ISO or the plow harness somehow went bad in 4 months which is absurd
@@Lepatreau That plow is still under warranty. I would take it back to them and make them fix it. Especially if they did the install. There is no way the plugs are wore out.
That is really handy to know! That iso model is a part I need to add to the spare parts shelf! Again , a benefit of doing the install yourself. Looks like Ol Man Winter may have gone into hibernation here.. no weather, but still froze up pretty well.
Thank you for posting this. I’ve been trouble shooting for days. I swapped my isolation module with a borrowed new one and it still didn’t work then I found your video. Since it works with the bypass does that narrow it down to what else it could be?
@@mossman381 I have checked the fuses and have cleaned all of the other connections. One of the pins in the 11 pin plug on the plow side is quite loose and I have a feeling that’s the culprit but I can’t find what to test it against. I’m thinking maybe I will buy the replacement plug for that since it’s my cheapest option. I hate to get into trial and error.
@@mossman381 I have. No luck. I’ll work my way through everything one more time tomorrow. I’m not as pressed for time now that I did your bypass. I appreciate your help.
Wiring issues can be difficult to find. The Western stuff has treated me pretty good. I figured this video would help others. Sometimes you don't have time to diagnose. You just need to get the plowing jobs done.
Hey Mossman that’s where you placed the module Velcro to black box. I’m wiring my truck now and it’s tight. Thaa as is for the good info excellent video
Awesome video, I battled with my wiring for a week. Until I saw this video, the wiring harness for lights that came with my used plow does not work on my 2004 chevy 1500. Do you think its worth buying the correct headlight connectors and changing them before buying a new isolation module? @mossman381

Better order the plow side module to because my year old wide out took a dump also
Mine was the opposite side of that plug for some reason but same concept, I’m guessing newer vs older harness or something not sure but thanks buddy!

You are a lifesaver man!
My Fisher minute mount plow has a had isolation module bypassed for 2 years because I never had plow side headlight harness.
Good to know my plow high beam switch but low beams are not try to figure it out any ideas
You probably need to switch your headlight plugs around. Or you have the wrong harness for your truck.

Most likely the coil or coils for the angle. Could be valves but the coils are easy to change first. amzn.to/2Me7qBz
Can I get a picture of the completed jump
Would’ve liked to see the actual jump

The remote flashes? When you turn it on the light should stay on not flash. Is the solenoid clicking when you push the button.

Yup, snow is done I think. We have huge piles of snow that are melting pretty slow.
Great information! I run a Boss plow but who knows what the future will bring.
what plow is the old boy looking at getting
We will look for something next year. I would say 8'6" straight blade.

It fits on top of the fuse box on that generation gm truck. Needs to be towards the motor or the hood will crush the module.

You need the right harness for everything to work correctly.
Isolation modules are trash
Do you leave that connector unplugged and just jump the to wires??? Awesome vid and thankyou
