Today that happen to me. In my town we have the biggest organ in Sudamérica and this morning I walked for the church Street and entered the church. I hear the organ in some events but today I was just me there and the entire building in darkness with only the light came in from the vitraux windows. It was a magical moment.

The new generaion of organists have grown up in times of peace and are more turned to brilliantly transcribing orchestral works for the organ while the older play the romantic works written for the orchestral organ with a lot of passion.

@@JuanSantos-yq1jn You're foo, an organist has to study ours and ours technique for the pedalboard and the keyboards (that are differents from the piano!!!) @Juan Santos , the piano does offer it’s own expression but the organ requires a technique that is far and away more difficult. Mozart nick-named the organ the “King of Instruments” partly due to it’s sound but also due to the skill required above all other instruments-and yes the piano was around in Mozart’s time. Each piece is interpreted many ways, yes. I’ve heard countless organists perform Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D Minor and each bring their own expression and I’ve never heard it expressed the same way by different organists. Many organ students when taught proper classical technique and using correct shoes, will attest that the pedal is not the hardest part of learning organ. The manuals are very difficult to manage the different articulations of legato/staccato. The piano has a percussive sound and decay with a sustain pedal which allows the pianist to move their hands while the note plays. Organists must use finger substitutions, glissandos and proper handling of repeated notes. Keys must be held down to sustain. Also, when a key note (such as in a melody or theme) repeats with no written rest, there is an implied rest so that each note is properly heard-the length of this rest depends on the style, tempo, surrounding notes, musical phrase, and even the active acoustics of the room. Also, skilled organists will play notes on multiple manuals at a time to bring out certain notes or parts over others, spanning their fingers to keys on adjacent manuals. Also, in organ solos, the pedal does not “spare the hands” from technical difficulty, they add to it and have their own articulation technique using toe-heel, toe glissandos, foot substitutions, etc. All these techniques are how organists express in volume, articulation and the color of the tone-yes, even individual notes by spanning across manuals. For performances, each organ (especially pipe organs) are vastly different and have not only different sounds but different placement of things and may have different spacing on the pedal board-although the AGO has helped standardize, it still takes a while for an organist to get comfortable to an organ they’ve never played. Even the placement of the “Great,” “Swell,” “Choir,” etc. manuals can change as to which one is first, second, etc. Organ keys are narrower and lighter, otherwise these finger gymnastics would be impossible. Having played both (each in their own classical disciplines) I can tell you expression on piano is easier than organ. Pianists cannot simply play even just the manuals without first learning the classical discipline of the organ-it sound’s terrible. It’s way beyond just multitasking.

I own all of Jonathan's "Seasons" CDs, and they're a treat, but I keep coming back to this Summer video for the visuals. I could watch it forever and NEVER understand how a human being can do what we see here, and do it to such perfection. Add to that the beauty of Vivaldi's composition,Tom's brilliant recording and editing, the magnificent setting, and the engineering marvel that is the instrument, and we have here encapsulated quite a stunning summary of human genius. Send this to the stars if you want to advertise Earth as a tourist destination! ;-)

    Four Seasons Summer
0:14 Under the seasons harsh sun , languishes the man , languishes the flock ,
1:03 ... And burns the pine.
    1:31 We hear the cuckoo's voice ,
2:30 ... And in agreement the songs of the turtlebove and finch are hearb.
3:09 Bephyr [ The West Wind ] gently blows ,
    3:24 ... But Borreas [ The North wind] sweeps him suboenly asibe ;
4:09 The Shepherd weeps , fearing violent storms and his fate.
6:00 The fear of lightning and fierce thunder...
6:22 ... Robs his tired limbs of rest ...
6:55 ... As wasps and flies furiously swarm around.
8:19 Alas, his fears were justified.
8:28 The heavens open with thunder and lightning ,
8:34 ... The hail cuts the heads off the corn and damages the grain.

    MARAVILHOSO! ♡
A Catedral é belíssima, o órgão tem ótima sonoridade... e o organista é excelente intérprete!
    Bravíssimo!

You must be one of the most skilled human beings alive. Bach himself would be a fan I’m sure.

Good grief - this is glorious on violin etc, yet equally glorious on the organ! Well done!!

Jonathan Scott toca com a alma, interpreta os maiores músicos clássicos com maestria. O coloco no rol dos mais famosos organistas da Europa.

I wonder how long it takes to master such a complex instrument, and that's not even mentioning the mind blowing genius's who designed, manufactured, and then built such a beautiful work of art.

Beautiful, moving and brilliant. I never even thought of the Four Seasons being played on a massive organ, but if I did I would not expect the result to be as satisfying as we have here.
Honestly! I can imagine The Red Priest running down the cathedral aisle, into the organ loft and trying out what he is hearing in his brain . . . and the result would have been exactly as we hear so eloquently here. Thank you for sharing your video and inspiration. Here's another new subscriber.
