I’m giving myself away here. I was listening to a compilation of church bells while meditating. This video showed up in the line up and I was turned off by the name of the piece. Being a low brow I thought the worst and stopped my meditation to see what this would sound like. I was captured from the first notes. It gave me only joy without any fearful macabre. Thank you God. Bless these amazing musicians and all who come to hear.
In all the several decades that I've played this symphony on records, tapes and CD by Saint-Saens (and even seen it performed once or twice), this is the first time seeing the percussion related instruments "do their thing". It was the kind of thing that the composer probably had in forefront of emphasizing : the bones of human skeletons roaming a cemetery (probably a large cemetery) for awhile in a dance. Xylophone, marimba, orchestral bells & vibraphone all are complex set of musical instruments that I am enjoying more of these past few years. There is so much potential with the instruments in literally all types of music forms. This performance of 2014 was very good. Discipline performers. For this near 70 year old man, that's good to see.
There was another performance in 2014 featuring this song. Broken arrows 2014 marching band program titled “FaceMe” had this as the intro to their show.
I cant believe it. This version is completely unik. So amazing, that it takes my breath away. These young musicians play at the peak of their ability, and it is a sensation. I´ve known this music very well for over 40 years by the direction of Toscanini. Bu this version is so different and modern, so full of craft, so dynamic. The director is very brave and with great courage. Thank you very much everybody.

This instantly became my absolute favorite version of this piece. Everything was arranged perfectly, and so amazing to be played by students! I’m so encouraged and inspired for music for the future.

The concentration and body language shows all the work that has gone into this performance. As a Percussionist of many years standing, this is just about the best I have ever seen. SUPERB!
These musicians are so young and so talented! I’ve always loved this piece since I heard it as a teenager (MANY years ago) but what a fantastic fresh interpretation and so enthusiastic and captures the intent and emotion of the piece superbly. The conduction, video and sound were first class. What a showcase piece for all involved to feel pride over. How can you watch and listen to this and not feel your heart pop with pleasure at everything about it?
Trawling through TH-cam and I came across this production, and I really have to say how *tremendous* it was to immerse myself in the professional performance by each and every orchestra member who gave their all to this incredible piece. A seriously awesome performance. I have re-played over and over through a HQ surround system and thoroughly enjoyed this. 10/10.
They are so young and talented. . .too bad the high schools, junior highs and elementary schools have defunded their schools’ music programs in the US. There is NO feeling like being part of a whole that produces beauty.
Australia have massively increased University costs for arts courses and repeatedly show them barely a fraction of the support of fields like mining. Absolutely ridiculous.
I went to schools in WestchesterCounty,New York, where they had band, orchestra,Chamber groups and dance plus Glee Clubs,Now there is no tours to Lincoln Center or Theatre or VB Historic pkaces,No art no learning no joy.Everything defunded.Ouch...
Susan Llequis if we were involved in a Space Race as we were then. . . They would put it all back. . .choir. . Orchestra. . .private instrumental school funded lessons. . When we were involved in the Space Race. . .we were also involved in a culture race. . .US wanted to prove their schools were superior and their people were superior. . .and so so many extra curricular programs were funded as well as some lucky school systems with sweetheart donors who were allowed to fund the band and orchestras to give concerts concerts in Russia. . .and Russia returned the favor, believe me. They came to the US and left with a bunch of bootleg Beatles and Stones stuff. But we had to be careful. . .what we did was send it separately under post (it was just beginning to open up) to their homes as anything they took was scrutinized intensely. Though I went to a State University, I actually met two girls in my dorm who were part of this program. . .and they said that the best reaction from Russian student audiences were when the orchestras and choirs did Calypso music or some modern contemporary music (one of the bands played a Beatles song and the Russian audience insisted on two encores) or if they played native music Tchaikovsky being most popular. Anyway, with our leadership today. . .it’s pride of person and not pride of country or culture or accomplishment that prevails. It is, indeed, sad, sad, sad!
I know....I grew up in Belgium and attended school there until I was 18 (mandatory). We still had music class two hours per week and our music teacher shared her passion for classical music with us. I will never forget our first assignment, listen to the complete performance of Peter and the Wolf and write an essay about it analyzing and explaining why we thought the instruments chosen by the composer perfectly represented the various characters. What astonishes me in this video is the apparent young age and impressive talent at that age of these performers. You can only achieve that when you start reaching them at a very young age...

My favorite Saint-Saens. So beautifully played by a superbly educated orchestra. Excellent all around. And that percussion section! Countless hours of practice and coordination. So fantastic those folks. I hope they won.
Excellent performance of this wonderful piece! I enjoyed the inclusion of the marimbas and xylophones as featured instruments. Your young concert musicians are all talented! Best regards, W. Ortiz (Florida USA)
An ingenious arrangement. The intensity of the musicians is striking. The conductor has brought forth a perfect performance. With others here, I shout "Bravissimo!"
I agree with the other commenters regarding how wonderful this arrangement is. It is so refreshing to hear the percussion artists have a chance to shine like they do. I haven't found a version of Danse Macabre that I like better!
I finish my day each evening by going on to youtube to watch and listen to whatever classical concerto or symphony has been on my mind. About 6 months ago I came across the marvellous youtube concerts by various Polish youth orchestras and all filmed by Akademia Film i Telewizji. I have been absolutely amazed at the skills of these young people, the quality of the films and the beautiful music they play. The best part is that each evening, whilst looking for something that has been in my mind, a totally new piece played by one of these orchestras appears. I cannot praise these young musicians too much, it is testament to the quality of their training and their brilliant skills. Congratulations to Akademia Film i Telewizji and please keep new pieces coming on to youtube..
I am from Melbourne, Australia, I am not a musician (I couldn't play on a gum leaf) and some months ago I was on TH-cam looking for a version of Capriccio Espagnol, and came across these extremely talented Polish Youth Orchestras. These young, very talented, musicians are an absolute Joy to watch. I have shared their performances around in the office with my colleagues. I hope that they are able to continue on throughout their lives with the beautiful gift of music that they provide. God Bless them.
Brilliant! We thought the use of the mallet percussion was a very clever choice as it made us imagine clinking, clinking bones or dancing skeletons. Very talented young musicians and a perfect arrangement and recording. Here in England we had a TV series called Jonathan Creek and this was the theme tune. It fitted well as it was a magician who solved mysteries for people. Brings back fond memories. 🙂🙂🙂

Even Death can’t top that performance it is absolutely beautiful.
I love Marimba! And Saint-Saëns too of course.
I've listened to every version I could find and this one is my favorite.
Merci from France. Incroyable.
Best version I have ever heard of this astounding piece
Bloody HELL - what an amazing orchestra ... all the more so as they are all so young!
Tele
Macha
The orchestra couldn’t have played it better. Amazing!
Fabulous ! This version is absolutely one of the best of Danse macabre. Saint-saens will be proud of it.
Rising from his grave, as it were.
I whole heartedly agree 100%! I listen to this version nearly everyday, just can’t get enough of this fantastic performance.
As t first i thought, xylophons and such are too loud, but than i liked this version a lot
This is easily the best version of this piece I've ever heard! Those chromatic percussionist were outstanding and they changed the way I've always heard this. Bravo!!!!
You have to admit that the use of the boards kind of suits the skeleton theme of the composition. Well done
And the bells tinGling.
Remarkable interpretation. I'm sure Saint-Saëns would have loved it. It's completely on par with the magic he infused in his pieces.
I’ve watched this a dozen times, never gets s old. Amazing and beautiful
Join the club!
It's so enlivening.
I usually listen to Danse Macabre on Halloween, but all those xylophones are such a treat I'm listening to them in February!
I'm listening in March (2020) and love this version of Danse Macabre! Like you, this is one piece I always play on Halloween along with A Night On Bald Mountain! What a wonderful video!
EDIT: It's "Night On Bald Mountain", not "A Night On Bald Mountain"!
I listen to this performance probably twice a week, along with Frederika von Strada's 'Ode to the Moon' and the Flower Duet'.
By Sabine Devilhe and Marianne Crebassa (My apologies for misspelled names , but they are all wonderful!)
did you listen to it?😌
One can imagine the skeletons waltzing among the grave stones, listening to this arrangement. So well played by these young Stars!!!!!
had to listen to it again two years later....bravo bravo bravo
Once again I am astounded by the capacity of young people to dedicate and discipline themselves to music. Thank you for this version of Dance Macabre.
This instantly became my absolute favorite version of this piece. Everything was arranged perfectly, and so amazing to be played by students! I’m so encouraged and inspired for music for the future.
It is so encouraging to see these young people making such beautiful music when we hear what is produced as today's modern music... Thank you all so much!
Bravo!
Instantly became my absolute favorite, too!
What joy in coming across this incredible performance!!! 💖
I’m a pit member at my school. Unfortunately we were quarantined, so this literally made cry...I miss playing the vibraphone, and this beautiful performance made me miss it even more. Beautifully played!!
Edward Elgar
Yes vibraphone is such a beautiful instrument! One of my favorites. I play it in jazz band :)
This made me cry. What a wonderful performance. Bravo to the lead on the mallet percussion.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
The players, especially the violins, play with such a flourish! They must love the conductor.
I am used to a different orchestration, but even though I am a middle aged man, I listened and found that I actually enjoyed the different sound.
Well done, young musicians! Brava!
And I love how animated the musicians are, really bending into their performances, just a delight to behold
This is absolutely great! Who the hell would dislike it?
Congratulations and love from Hungary!
Idiots!
Graveyard's neighbors when the skeletons play after midnight...
Bravo our young Polish musicians.Excellent work.
What tremendous skill displayed by such young musicians! The marimbas sound out of this world!
I should say xylophones actually.
Somewhere in a corner sits a first violinist feeling rather blue LOL all kidding aside what a fantastic rendition of this piece and props to the percussionists who rarely get to be Center Stage like this
Agree!👍🏻
The concentration and body language shows all the work that has gone into this performance. As a Percussionist of many years standing, this is just about the best I have ever seen. SUPERB!
I love how the musicians become one with the music they are playing.

Still amazing!
wow!!!! i'm in tears over here......that was the BEST version of this i've EVER heard, seen, etc......how awesome!!!! so wonderful!!!!!
I loved watching the xylophone players absolutely rock out! Amazing!
Piękna interpretacja, moje pozdrowienia z Chile-Ameryki. 01 grudnia 2022 r
Not to worry the football programs have plenty of money
Great percussion!!! Overall orchestra sounds great! Lots of talent and hard work from these young musicians!!!💙💜💙💜💙
Me too.
I was spellbound! This recording moved me to tears .... and those percussionists....wow!!!!!!!!! Bravo!
same here dear Carole, and yet, it was probably not my cup of tea 8:52 minutes ago....After all I'm only french...Yet I drink chicorée instead of drinking wine !...
The amount of appreciation i have for each and one of them is sooo much. I love seeing them all Ace their parts with such perfection and skill. This is the art of music that should be appreciated so much.
My favorite Saint-Saens. So beautifully played by a superbly educated orchestra. Excellent all around. And that percussion section! Countless hours of practice and coordination. So fantastic those folks. I hope they won.
Each one owned their performance
Excellent performance of this wonderful piece! I enjoyed the inclusion of the marimbas and xylophones as featured instruments. Your young concert musicians are all talented! Best regards, W. Ortiz (Florida USA)
An ingenious arrangement. The intensity of the musicians is striking. The conductor has brought forth a perfect performance. With others here, I shout "Bravissimo!"
I have heard this orchestration a few times, but this is the first time I could visualize skeletons dancing. Well Done!
To me this is one of the best performances I have ever seen. Added to the fact that these are all young people. What a hope for the future of mankind!
Still one of the best performances of Danse Macabre I’ve ever seen, I come back again and again
