  • Cliffe Knechtle has a great conversation with college students at a campus in the southwest US.
The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This is an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

You and I saw that interaction very differently. The questioner said he didn't want to argue with him or debate him. He just wanted to know why he was doing what he was doing. Cliffe tried to embarrass him and avoid answering his question. He eventually said he wasn't being paid for preaching. The questioner left because he didn't want to argue or debate him. He didn't get an answer to his legitimate question.

I know it's a touchy subject about homosexuality, but I have a comment concerning the guy with the blue hat that walked away.
The question is, are you willing to follow the truth no matter where it leads, or do you only want things to conform to what you want for yourself? The issue is not about what we want or what we agree with, the issue is: are we willing to follow the truth no matter where it leads?
someone can argue that the truth does not lead to God, and someone can argue that the truth does lead to God, but that's not what I'm arguing or saying in this moment. I'm simply stating that if the truth does lead to God, and God disagrees with what you want, are you willing to give up what you want for the truth?
If the answer is no, then that shows that such a person might not actually care what the truth is, making him untrustworthy, not just to the world who hears him, but also and especially to himself.
This means that such a man ought not to trust his own heart or his own thoughts nor listen to himself.
If this describes a person reading this right now, you have to be willing to let go of your hopes, dreams, desires, pride, and everything in pursuit of the truth, and develop new hopes, new dreams, new desires in the truth, if you are to be trustworthy, because it is the truth.
And if you are a non-believer, you should acknowledge that it is at least possible that God exists, and therefore you should not reject God simply because he disagrees with you, because it might suggest that you are not in pursuit of Truth...
Remember, you are not seeking to justify a decision you've already made to remain separate from God, you are genuinely seeking the truth and are therefore willing to go wherever the truth leads. This means that right now you are searching for God to find this answer...

If a person experiences drive from an inability to understand it, then their elders have been remiss in allowing it to occur without teaching them. If it goes on too long, the need for an education about their choices could affect their future.
The adverse results of giving into urges may be irreversible without alot of intensive therapy or worse.
To say something you have an unhealthy urge for is ok? That's not really responsible parenting or a healthy and happy outcome usually. Just look at the suicide rate.
It's so much easier to include the person in healthy interaction and not let them grow up alone. They can see what other people do and see if they fit in. They may learn more about themselves and change as they grow up. You don't always have good teachers or psychologists for every individual.
Having biblical teaching from a young age can prepare the individual for the temptations of adolescence and adulthood. It can prepare them to decide they want health and happiness as their first choice, instead of feeling bad about unhealthy thinking or not understanding unhealthy urges.

He's trying to use this "business making" argument to release his anger because he is bothered by the fact that Cliffe is successfully spreading the Gospel of Jesus. This kid says "I believe in Jesus's message" when he clearly comes at cliffe in a condescending manner. This is a clear example of the arrogance and more importantly ignorance of young people of disrespecting others and wanting to impose their opinions without any merits. If this was a scenario where Cliffe was by himself and as young as that kid; that kid would come at him in a more aggressive manner bring way more rude. Now we know why Cliffe is firm in the way he operates and discusses the Gospel in this appropriate manner. GOD BLESS CLIFFE

Now, as Christians, we could all leave our jobs and do nothing but preach the gospel, but as soon as our money ran out we would be in trouble. We would not be able to provide food and shelter for ourselves and our family, and thus end up being either taken care of by someone else’s money or by the state (which is the same as another’s money since the state’s funds represents taxes paid by others.) The Bible teaches this is not right, and tells us that we are to provide for ourselves and our family. 1 Timothy 5:8 says that, “…if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.” Even Paul, when he was preaching the gospel, earned money as a tent maker [Acts 18:3].

Looking at the comments it appears most have negative views about the first guy. I see two problems. 1st I think those negative comments stem from putting Mr Knectle on a pedestal. That is dangerous in Christianity for many reasons. 2nd I think that first guy could have been given an answer with slight effort. Mr Knectle had an opportunity to show why he and other Christians do what we do. The problem is that Mr Knectle, like many others who debate, doesn't use much scripture, even when the situation is appropriate as it was with the first guy. He could have pointed out the great commission or that we are to love our neighbors. He could have pointed out that love doesn't always appear kind, especially to those that are in the wrong and/or resistant to truth. Even if the guy was a troll it was a missed opportunity. I have respect for Mr Knectle but I disagree with several of his beliefs.

    Here is a possible scenario.
Maybe God originally was going to create us as beings with greater limitations than we currently have.
Maybe the plan was to give us a measure of free will akin to a whale’s free will or a lion’s. Along with a more limited intellect.
But having this life would entail us having no chance of gaining eternal life. But it would produce a harmony similar to the animal kingdom, such as the deers in the forest.
Maybe that was to be our lot. But because of rebellion in heaven a great opportunity opened up for man.
A top angel along with one third of the angelic realm turned against God and blamed God for their rebellion by saying that the temptation to rebel against God was impossible to resist.
And this seemed to make so much sense, although it was a lie, that the other angels who didn’t rebel wondered if it could actually be true.
Maybe if an angel is incredibly gifted and markedly beautiful and intelligent, it might be impossible not to fall in love with oneself as this angel called Lucifer did, along with the others who followed him.
Therefore, so that all the worlds in the universe who are looking on could know the truth regarding these fallen angels, they had to be given time on earth to prove what they are.
And they are now here on earth being tempters, tempting mankind to turn against God. Blaming God for everything that’s wrong whereas in actuality they are the cause of it. Blaming God for allowing them to fall so that man could become Gods. Let us make man in our own image. Genesis 1:26
But through it all a great opportunity opened up for mankind. It provided the circumstances for God to make man into a higher being of free will with greater intellect.
These human beings, if they can survive the temptations thrown at them, can not only become eternal beings, but also will begin a journey that ultimately results in the continuous never ending development of Godhood itself.
God’s, or sons and daughters of God, all because of the tempting power of these fallen angels, who through their temptations cause some to resist and instead get 100% on God’s side, like gold purified in fire. And gain their inheritance of Everlasting Life.
But many will regrettably succumb to the temptations.
This resulting mayhem caused by these dissidents, these fallen ones, would be blamed on God by their influence, for the purpose of leading man away from his true potential and away from God.
Man is greatly hated by the fallen ones who are jealous of what man can become.
They fight hard against man and regrettably many will fall prey to their tempting powers.
God could have elected to not place mankind amongst these fallen ones but the opportunity to turn them into God’s was too much for God to resist. Such an opportunity had never existed before.
And although it would include God Himself becoming one of us and being a sacrifice, nevertheless His love for us, is so great, that He willingly died for us in the form of Jesus Christ.
    Such amazing love is incomprehensible.
Thankfully I beat the temptation on my life but it wasn’t easy. Turning to Christ was my most difficult decision ever, but it proved to be the best one I could ever make.
I am now one that is eternally thankful to God.
    Thanks be to God.

I love your ministry. Subscribe, Like, share, recommend.
I really hate the way you handled that first guy. I'm not there so I could obviously be wrong, but I really feel like he had a relevant and genuine concern. It teaaly seemed he had stumbling blocks caused by people shouting at people with a bull horn, or all the wolves fleecing the flock. That all he really needed was a kind answer of the difference and how scripture even tells us some of these things have been present since the 1st century. That really he was looking to understand and it seemed like were just challenging him like you would a hardened atheist playing games.
Hind sight is 20/20 and it's easy to critique something after while not being there, I totally get that.
But maybe pointing out how jesus addressed the crowds, commissioned us to go out, in acts paul reasons on mars hill. Or about waiting for people to get jesus through osmosis, maybe point out, how will people believe in one they havent heard, how will they hear if no one speaks to them about it. Or about bringing low the ideas that raise themselves against the knowledge of God. About all the false people out there preaching another Jesus, both in culture and many "churches."
I hope this is coming across in the spirit I intend it. I just was really sad and disappointed when the man walked away. It just seems like he was looking for a kind non confrontational discourse and explanation, and was met with a challenge.
You do way more then me on your worst days, so please dont hear me as trying to tell you how to do things. I just really respect this ministry and what you both do, and wanted to voice this feeling that seeing that stirred up in me. It was grieving for some reason. Probably cant find him now, but asking when your there again, or keeping it in mind for people like that in the future might be good.
And maybe there is more I dont see, maybe one of the team caught him leaving or you talked to him after. I hope so. And maybe it was a bad day. I deal with a lot of calvinists that love to argue and sometimes I respond in a confrontational way to someone based on how I'm feeling because of others earlier in the day. Just voicing this feeling it caused I guess. Thanks. Love ya'll.

The issue is that you bring feelings into a public rational debate on the very purpose of our existence. It does not feel good to be wrong and to lack validation nor purpose. The world is a harsh place, and the truth hurts our feelings because it asserts our illusions are false. If he was genuine and not simply trying to get petted on the back by fellow sinners, he would have talked to Cliffe in private to understand his motive, not accusing him to get paid for speaking, in front of the whole crowd.
I don't know if you're new to these kind of open air preaching, but let me tell you the devil comes from a bunch of various ways to silence the preacher, and you're right when you say Cliffe is doing a good job on taking that kind of heat. He may sometimes be harsh, but he wasn't with that guy, he treated the guy just like everyone else with patience, he listened to his emotional struggle and then confronted him with it rationally.
Too bad he wanted to feel better and didn't want to go through the conscious conviction of being wrong, you can't force people to repent and accept the truth, they may have to struggle and eventually cry out to God. But you HAVE to tell the truth, no matter what, and that's easier said than done... feelings are of no help at all on the matter, they're the reason why we keep failing out of weakness.

@@HeIs580 I understand your perspective. Doesnt change the verses on this issue or that God gave us emotion and feelings that have a purpose. As we are being redeemed so are those feelings. Having the holy Spirit indwelling also adds the demention of feeling his grief. Justify it if youd like but the guy obviously needed some compassion. Jude tells us as well save some by snatching them out of the fire and others with compassion. We all make mistakes and it's hard having everything you say and do recorded and evaluated. I love cliff and stuart. I dont think the observation is wrong though despite your reasoning. I appriciate it though.

I don’t understand how the scripture says something is clearly a sin, and then when someone reads it or repeats what is written, people ask “so do YOU say it’s a sin?” Umm actually the scripture says so and if you’re Christian and a follower of Christ, you try to go by the scripture. It’s not as if it’s an original thought from that person, something they made up!

I think the 2nd guy asked a valid question regarding Christianity's stance on homosexuality. It's interesting that Jesus never spoke directly about his thoughts on that subject. In most progressive western countries today it's perfectly acceptable to be gay. It's mainly in deeply religious countries that it's frowned upon. Our morality changes over time and we begin to realise that it's perfectly natural for people of the same sex to be in a relationship and it's not sinful.

    • @derekbeatrice
      @derekbeatrice 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

Does God's morality change over time? I agree ours, as a society, changes over time, but God is consistent in His moral character. The reason it seems natural is because it is. We naturally sin. Everyone. We just sin in different ways, but it naturally occurs throughout time, cultures, nations, empires, etc.

    • @koklol2837
      @koklol2837 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

You know why Jesus never spoke on homosexuality? Because there were no homosexuals in Israel and Judah at that time nor at any other time in Israel's history. They were stoned to death! So there is no reason for him to talk about it or for the gospel writers to write about it because that sin wasn't around in Israel. Who gives a crap what "progressive" western countries say is good? Or any other country for that matter. "Progressive" is a fancy, modern word for "morally bankrupt."
So, to rephrase; "Morally bankrupt western countries say its perfectly acceptable to be a homosexual." Sounds totally different now, huh.
What matters is God's Law, and his commandments, not sinful, wicked man's opinions on what is acceptable and what isn't. "Our morality changes over time". I agree with that. Our morality is changing every day and it is getting worse and worse and worse by the minute, and it will continue to get worse and worse until it becomes like what Paul spoke about in his 2nd letter to Timothy.
" This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God. " 2nd Timothy 3; 1-4

@Dank. I beg to differ, it means a hell of a lot if you happen to be gay in an openly progressive country and you can live your life as you want to. Whereas, a similar person in, lets say, Pakistan or Iran could well be killed simply for being gay.

  • @JeffSal999

Okay, this guy Cliffe Knechtle is being RUDE! As Christians, we are to spread the Gospel to the world, which means those WHO WISH TO HEAR IT! (Those who seek the TRUTH!) But we are NOT supposed to yell, scream, argue with, or condemn people! That is the quickest way to push people AWAY! As you noticed, the first guy couldn't even look the so-called "pastor" in the face, and he didn't even feel comfortable enough to stay and listen to the answers to the rest of the questions he had! This guy is like the Spanish Inquisition! Just like the FALSE doctrine of burning forever in a place called "Hell" scares people away, this lack of humility turns people away! Even the second guy walked away shaking his head! He should have tried to communicate to this guy that it's not JUST a chemical imbalance, much of it is environment, just as people who grow up around drugs and crime are prone to drugs and crime!

    • @lastjkid
      @lastjkid 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

You haven't seen much of Cliffe if you think this is what he does.
As a side note, you ever notice how easy it is to point out how people are doing things the wrong way? I could say similar stuff about preachers throughout history, but what's the point? I'll be the first to call a spade a spade, but I've never know anyone to follow Christ because someone pointed out to them that so and so was doing it the wrong way.
Look in the mirror and ask yourself if ridiculing pastors is what Christ called you to do?

    • @JeffSal999
      @JeffSal999 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Cliffe is a preacher, he should know better! And...I'VE never known anyone to follow Christ because a so-called Christian pastor yelled at them and humiliated them instead of sitting down with them and gently and humbly discussing the topic they don't understand! This is EXACTLY the reason why many people want nothing to do with God, it's preachers that stand on corners with signs and bullhorns, screaming at people and telling them they are going to Hell etc. I even watched one self-righteous, so-called Christian pastor who was doing everything I just described, and after he talked to a guy, he refused to shake the guys hand! The reason? Because the guy was a sinner! He said, "Oh I can't shake your hand, your a sinner!" SO, to answer your question, YES, if the pastor in question is not showing a Christian spirit, and he is pushing people away instead of drawing them in, then YES, that IS part of what Christ called me to do! Another example is the Westboro Baptist Church which is SO full of hate that TRUE Christians should be there whenever they are screaming and condemning people so they can do damage-control! Carrying signs saying "God hates fags etc." is NOT what Jesus taught! All it does is push them further into their sin! Anyway, no, I haven't seen much of Cliffe, I was too turned-off by his methods in this video.

    • @lastjkid

so you think you have a full understanding of his practices by watching one video?
Seems pretty narrow-minded to me. Have you ever seen him in person?
I've gone and seen him speak at UT for the last 17 years, and if you think this is what he does, then you're dead wrong.
Try opening your mind a little more and grasp a better understanding of what's really going on here.
