  • Our review of the Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Standard! This is a great platform to start with if you are looking to build a custom touring bike. Since it's basically the most stripped down version of a Harley bagger, you aren't paying for a lot of stuff that you may take off and throw in a box somewhere never to be seen again. Drop in your own choice of touch screen display, speakers, and a dash splash. A sub in the bags if you want. Big wheel on the front, or shocks, a cam, and a fork kit, depending on what kind of rider you are.
    I enjoyed riding this motorcycle a great deal, despite it's size and weight compared to what I am accustomed to. With the Stage 1 kit installed, it sounds really kewl and the fuel tuning is pretty spot on, which gives it really good throttle response. The weak point of this bike's performance is, without a doubt, the suspension. And in particular, the rear shocks. They function OK under light use, but struggle immediately when the pace is turned up. They are not as compliant as I would like at lean, and don't give great feedback of the road. However, this is the base model, and a nice set of aftermarket shocks and a maybe a fork kit would go a long way.
    If this was my bike, I'd throw a pair of longer Ohlins shocks on the rear before I even rode it out of the dealership. Get some more ground clearance and improve compliance and feel greatly. Then, I would likely match that up with a revalved set of forks. The springs felt close to right for me, though. The Stage 1 kit is nice, and I think I would bump that up to Stage 2 with the high rpm "Power Cam" from H-D to move the power a little higher in the rev range. And finally, I would install a radial master cylinder and LED's all around. Oh, and a Denali Soundbomb!

    Best Harley road test of all time. Save money on the stereo and fancy paint and spend it on Upgrading the suspension. Love it.

    I've had my 19 flht for a year now. put alot of customising in to it & you are spot on with starting with a flht. Best choice I've made.

    I love it. Got big plans for it and none of them involves a radio lol

      Haha, good for you! The E-Glide is a solid bike! If I had one, I'd throw some Ohlins shocks on there right away, and maybe a fork kit, and it'll take you anywhere you want to go. So many cool ways to go with your customization on that bike.

      It's the best platform to customize because you aren't paying for a ton of stuff you'll later take off anyway. I enjoyed rallying that bike through Mulholland, and if I was a Harley guy, it would be high on my list.

    I'm split between the Low Rider S and this....but, after seeing the potential and the start up price, it's a LOT of bike for the money and the customization is endless. Love it now!

      If you're going to be doing distance rides, particularly with a passenger, the Electra Glide is definitely the way to go. The Lowrider is nice, but is for a different type of riding altogether.

    that was fantastic and refreshing to watch... really thought it was a good independent view on the bike. I enjoyed watching you push it around the corners and seeing what it can do when not just going in a straight line. I have a 2019 UGS and i think you were spot on... so thanks =)

      Thanks! I think there are so many motorcycle review channels it's easy to get lost on the mix. And also, I lost my access to endless Harley products for free, so haven't been making much motorcycle content lately.

    I want that bike, it's the perfect touring blank canvas. One of the best reviews I've seen, pushing the bike to it's limits, love it.

    Great video and review man, i have a 2013 street glide that I’m building into a semi performance bagger. Upgraded suspension, stage one with a 2 into 1 exhaust for better performance and the bike handles amazing.
    Im a southern Cali resident and have been in most of the crazy canyons, ive never even come close to scraping a floorboard on mine with proper body leaning. Plus the inch and a half lift from my rear shocks helps too.

    How were you using body position to reduce the lean angles?

    • @roadraceguy
      @roadraceguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason for leaning your body off of a motorcycle, into the turn at speed, is to alter the weight distribution and center of gravity, thus allowing the bike to turn at the same rate, yet carry less lean angle. The farther you can get your body off to the inside, the faster you can go through any given turn at speed as you will have more ground clearance and larger contact patches with your tires. Racers use this technique to also allow the earliest possible application of the throttle. If you sit straight up, your body weight is working against the physics of the motorcycle. If you lean away from a turn at speed, your bike will have to lean more to turn at the same rate. At low speed, you lean your body away from the turn and push the bike down to counterbalance the weight of the machine itself.

      Honestly, I couldn't tell you exactly. But I know it is a H-D accessory and not from an aftermarket supplier.

    Does the fairing work?

    • @roadraceguy
      @roadraceguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's certainly better than no fairing at all, for sure. And if you put a higher screen on it, it becomes more functional.

    Btw why customising this bike? Go buy a StreetGlide.
