  • After a 10 Year Hiatus the Electra Glide Standard is back! Harley-Davidson brings back this ol' work horse for the pure rider who isn't worried about the fancy chrome and gadgets. The Electra Glide also hits a low price point for the budget-conscience buyer as well. Get all the details on this new Motorcycle in the H-D lineup. Matt Laidlaw gives up the walk-around and test ride.

Exactly! Instead of just throwing out a new model just because they left something out or changed a colour (exaggerating a bit), they should make the E-Glide Standard the base-model and you can opt for stuff like the infotainment, etc. on your own. Take a look at BMW.. You can get a K1600GT for ~20k, or you go nuts on the options and have a >30k-machine or anything in between. Same goes for almost every other model in their lineup.

The Engine serial number made this video! Great job, Matt. I’m torn between this one and an FLHTP. I rode one professionally (it think it was an ‘06) for a few years and I gotta say I wasn’t impressed. But with all the refinements and upgrades HD has made to this platform, from the Milwaukee Eight to the Oil cooler etc, has really got me sitting up and taking notice.

Bought my FLHT in early March , added stage 1 screamin eagle , your comment on tank graphics , "Kindergartner" let me remind the Harley Davidson bar and shield is one of the World's most recognizable marketing symbols, it also hangs above the door of every H.D. dealer around the world including Laidlaws , I've owned 5 H.D.s all vivid black, 3 w/ the bar & shield tank graphic , don't really think any thing about H.D. is "Kindergartner" Different style preference is what makes H.D. America's most motorcycle! But any way thanks for the review Matt , you always do a good informational reviews !

For me, this particular bike is exactly what I’ve been waiting for. I guess most people these days might think since this bike is a bit stripped down and at a cheaper price compared to many of the other big Harleys, that it’s not good enough for them. But in fact, this isn’t something you can shake a stick at. This is a home run hit out of the park by the ones at Harley who decided it would be good to offer a bike like this again. Is there even one single person out there who buys a HD and doesn’t customize it to their own liking in some way or another?? I don’t think so. In my opinion, HD would be smart and sell more bikes actually if they offered more in their lineup stripped down like this model comes. The more people that are able to afford it, the more will buy. More sales= stronger company. IMO, there’s no two ways about it, this is where it’s at. Awesome bike!!!

    • @adrake4877
      @adrake4877 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Big reason why I bought it. Saved me cash to upgrade how i want instead of spending more just to replace parts. Already have a Rockford Fosgate sound system on the way for half the price of the Harley Radio. Plus the dealership really wanted a sale and did a tank/seat swap with a street glide. So it is a standard with street glide tank and seat. Plus It is at the dealership having Khrome Werks exhaust, stage one, and 12 inch apes on it. Loving it so far. The polished aluminum is my least favorite part but easy enough to get it ceramic coated or redone.

We love our 2009 Electra Glide Standard. Your channel and a few others, along with the fact that as empty nesters we put down a lot more miles than we used to convinced us to step up to a touring chassis. So last April we sold our Heritage and bought this. It was 14 years old but only had 14k miles on it and at $9500 we have a lot of room for customization. And we love the Flame Blue Pearl color so we'll mainly be adding chrome.
    Great video by the way!

I bought the first one of these that the dealerships in our area had and I love the bike. I had to change the seat, bars, and exhaust right away. I added passenger pegs, detachable passenger backrest, and windshield shortly after. I couldn't be happier with the bike. I do plan on adding a lot of personalization in the future. If you like the simplicity or plan on customizing the bike on your own and don't really want the radio, this bike is for you.

I like the look better than the SG. Black looks good against the chrome with a touch of red. The glove box is actually a perfect place to well, store your gloves while you're in Wendy's stuffing your face.
According to the specs, it's 15 lbs lighter than the SG. Presumably, that's coming off the forks, so that's a plus. I'm a bigger fan of the RK to remove it altogether, but for those who don't wanna rock full face lids and like max protection from the elements, this may be the better option.

Matt, traded in my 13 softail for this bike. It’s a great compliment to my 18 Ultra. I got it simply because it is a “RAW” harley and a canyon carver. I put my stock 18 Ultra seat on it and it since I changed the seat on my Ultra and it completely changed the comfort especially for my wife who rides a lot with me. This is a solid 8 only because the stock bars are a little short. I will be changing those soon. As you said the bike is what it is and for me it is the perfect raw harley on the touring frame. Love hearing from a Techs (Jamie’s) perspective on the bike, these are the guys I go to when I am interested in buying my toys, guys that will honestly tell you if its a thumbs up or down. I have several Bikes ‘86 Honda Goldwing Aspencade, ‘02 bmw r1150r, and just picked up the ‘20 HD EG Standard. Previously owned a ‘02 EGS, but with the 88 motor and only 5 speeds, it didnt do too much for me, then went to Vegas and jumped on a RG with the. 103 motor and 6 speed, and I was hooked. I figured the M8 107 would be plenty and a dream to ride.
When HD came out with the EGS in 19.5 model year I was going to jump at it, but then heard thru the grape vine that the ‘20 would come standard with ABS ( Previously a $800 option ) so here we are.. with about 1,500 in upgrades ( Custom Dynamics LED’s all the way around, Sony XAV 7000 head unit, and Klockwerks windscreen ) I couldn’t be happier.. clean lines, classic styling ..I kept everything else stock, exhaust, seat, bars..with the upgrades I felt this was the best option for me wo braking the bank.. Thanks Matt, Andrew & Jamie for keeping the review “Real” Ride Safe Brothers..

For that, Harley gives you a "discount" of around 2.000$. Imho the difference on the pricetag is just too small when talking about motorcycles in the 20k-range..

Value wise, I paid under $20k otd so I was happy, but options add up quickly and the street glide is a better value for what you get. I use mine more as a city bike so I don't mind the minimalist nature of it, but some folks will want more.

Can't wait to see what people do with the blank slate! If I ever got rid of my '09 Low Rider (not gonna happen, hahah) I would consider this bike! Love to see a build-off, but it'll take a while to get that Coast Glide out of my head!

Another great review, Matt! I used to have a 2007 FLHT here in the UK and loved it. Unfortunately Harley have priced the new model much higher here than in the USA so that it actually costs more than a Road King. I’m sure this will limit the appeal, given that a Road King comes as a two seater as standard and with a full set of chrome engine cases. I guess it’ll come down to how much you want the iconic bat wing fairing.

This is my upgrade in 2 years. I am really torn between this and the Heritage Classic. Same price, different styles. I have gone from sportster to touring. I am really, really torn between the two, but, currently leaning towards this model. It will come down to test riding them both.
The door cover comment is pretty common. I expect to see something done by the MoCo within a year or so. Something to put in that blank space. Personally, I am waiting to see some aftermarket company manufacture a phone holder that will fit in there. THAT would be clutch. The main reason I am not leaning towards the SG or RG is that I neither want, nor need, the electronics. I have a phone. It has maps, and music. I dont need that on my bike too.

My opinion…if you are new to riding.. intimidated by a huge bagger.. but you know you want to get in one…. Buy a used 883.. learn the techniques. Clutch control, lean angle, head turning, Learn low speed skills you’ll need them.. take some classes.. practice ,, find an area that has all the road types that you can experience.. do parking lot runs….. when you feel confident,, go to the Harley dealer and see what they have for rent…. You might find you don’t want the big touring bike.. you might want a soft tail ..

This is great for someone who wants a street glide but cant afford the extra 3k or so. Can upgrade in future and buy the parts later but want a touring bike as a nice comfy ride.

A big hello and cheers from India. Your reviews are awesome and to the point always. I currently own a 2017 Dyna Street Bob and I am big fan of the dyna platform - considering the range of customisations it offers, but also slowly becoming a fan of the newer softail chassis. I loved this reivew of yours, and I hope, Harley considers bringing the Electra Glide Standard to India.
Keep up this awesome work. :)

I hope in the fututre they put an aux cord and some kind of phone mount on the empty space in the center and keep its speakers for said aux cord or a bluetooth connection of some kind. Other than that its a nice platform to start on and i can see myself buying this bike in the future👍🏽

BTW, i couldn't help but notice the 'interesting' engine tag number at 43:52... 😁

Another solid video and review. I am in total agreement to use it as blank state. Sure we see some custom shop do that soon.
It would be nice in up coming years they offer a few basic colors.
Agreed with you a lot on this review.

Since this model is under the Electra Glide badge, I have to wonder if the rear shocks are the Ultra FLHTK comfort shocks or the Street Glide FLHX sport shocks.
Since it has a 16” rear tire versus 18”, it seems it would certainly ride smoother than a Street Glide though.

@@rickybobby6760 I know how it feels, I have one. Just seems it would be a better comparison with the taller solo seat and suspension than the low Street Glide seat and suspension. Couldn't get me to trade my King.

Considering the FLHTP isn't much more and has 1" more rear suspension travel, RDRS and a 114, why not sell that as the base? I'd rather have the FLHTP, but I don't know if a civilian can buy one.

Good honest review Matt hopefully it will get bums on their seats which it is all about, but I would hold out for a secondhand street glide with high specs.
Good luck for Saturday tried to vote for your bike but being in the UK I can't vote, but your team did a great job on the project.

Now I need to go get the exact dimensions of the faux glovebox on there and design a 3d printed locking cover for it. I expect to see some aftermarket covers in the near future. I wouldnt be surprised to see the MoCo come out with something too. Personally, if someone made a cover that can also hold a phone, I think that would sell huge. I use my phone for nav all the time on my RKC. I fully intend to do the same on this bike, when I finally save the scratch to purchase one!

Traded my CBR1000rr(i rode like a dumbass, throttle pinned 24/7) for this and love it. Bought it because it is stripped down and left me room to do some upgrades i wanted day 1. The dealership also put a street glide tank and seat on it as part of the deal. Having stage one and handlebars installed as we speak. Looking forward to the stereo install too
