  • The Newest Model just announced into the Harley-Davidson Motorcycle lineup today. The Electra Glide Standard! This is a bike that was offered in the earlier 2000's and was discontinued in 2010 when other bikes like the Ultra Limited and Street Glide eclipsed the sales of the Electra Glide Standard. With a changing market atmosphere and a higher priority at delivering a lower priced motorcycle at $18,999, H-D sees a fit in the current lineup.

@@bobjob7611 I disagree! These bikes are the perfect Builders bike.....Wheels?= don't care going to change to aftermarket anyway, Stereo?= don't care installing aftermarket anyway, Paint, Fenders,Bags? = don't care all getting swapped out and painted. So yeah they will sell to the minimalist, bike builder, and the person who can't afford to drop $23,000 on a street glide with all the bells and whistles. But can afford a great deal on a $18,000 Electra glide. I remember these basic bikes when they were offered and the dealers had no problem selling them. I believe Harley is making a great decision to be bringing them back.

@@bobjob7611 I think Harley will sell quite a few of these. There are lots of people who don't want the stereo or ABS or even the stock two passenger seat.
Why pay for something you don't want? "A couple grand" is more like $3000 and that's a significant amount of money to most people.
Not to mention there's the psychological value in having a price less than $20K or even $19K.

I especially appreciate the length of the video. 20 minutes is about the perfect length. His other videos can go on for far too long, especially going through the specs, colors and options on the website. Just mention what color the bike is you're demoing, and post a link in the description so people can check the rest out for themselves. Focus on what makes this model unique, and what changes were made from last year's model (bigger engine, infotainment, different suspension, etc.).

No need for a factory Stereo because you can buy a very cool aftermarket stereo for $300 and install it yourself. No need for navigation because we all have google maps on our phones. Just bought a 2019 with 2200 miles on it for $13500. Guy bought it and he and his wife found it was too small for them so they traded it for a goldwing and I snatched it up. I’ve been wanting one since it hit the market because I didn’t want a radio and nav as I have a phone and a SENA mounted on my lid. List price on the showroom floor was $19000 + tt&l so I saved quite a bit of coin. Sundowner seat, backrest and boards for the Old Lady are in my near future obviously however, it already has SE slip on mufflers so I’m pretty stoked! I was very hesitant about the M8 at 1st because Harley-Davidson always seems to have teething problems in the 1st couple of years of new engines but it appears that the problems have been addressed and I do have the warranty. No problem adding a stero and speakers there is a company that you can purchase a plug in play for 718 bucks , I added a la pera daddy long legs seat with backrest ! Matt.........I've got this bike in the FLHTP form from 2017. Mine obviously has the police shocked seat. I added a solo rack and late 90's King Tour Pak, all Custom Dynamics rear lights, Legend rear shocks, S&S Mk45 slip-ons. Mine came with a Sony radio and speakers installed by the sheriff that owned it along with ABS. This is my 4th police bike and the best one to date. Kudos to Harley for bringing this basic model to market. Only complaint is that the new police models come with the 114 and this one should have also. Other than that omission, I'd buy this one asap.

This is probably the model I would swing for if I were in the market for a touring bike. After having GPS in my car for the last five years, I've learned that I don't really ever use it and on a motorcycle I don't ever listen to music, so not paying for that stuff is beneficial. I'd probably upgrade the headlight to the LED though while doing a stage one to it.

Ok, so, I enjoyed your breakdown of the bike, and also your response to some of the Instagram comments. Personally, I get the decision to fill a gap to the consumer here. They’ve basically said, “here’s your lower price point for a stripped down fairing mounted touring bike, now you make it what you want. The only thing I can constructively say about it is I think they should’ve covered the hole where the infotainment system went. That looks kind of tacky, imo. It’s not like it couldn’t have easily been punched out if upgraded. I do tend to lean toward the thinking of “why buy this bike to upgrade a thing and not just get the Street Glide”? Cost wise, it would be a no brainer. I always try and see things from a sales perspective and then the buyer, and in this situation I think it really comes down to asking yourself, do you want a bike with a fairing for the cheapest possible $$$$. If you’re gonna spend $19K, why not spend a couple more and have it all? Just me! Lol.....

It's about time H.D. brought this model back. You can add an after market radio for around 200 bucks with speakers and use the nav on your phone and your still 3K ahead vs a Street Glide. Granted you won't have the handlebar controls for the radio but, big deal. Why H.D. didn't simply offer the Police E/Glide to the public with the option of the 114 motor, I don't understand. That would have simplified production and you'd get the highway lights and rear bag guards.

I bought a new one in 2003. Main difference between that and a Classic back then was no Tour Pak, radio, or lower fairings. I kept it for ten years, traded it in on a new Ultra in 2013. My wife and I rode to Alaska on both of them - in 2006, then again in 2016. The 2003 was much better in windy conditions, the 2013 was scary as hell with a 20 mph wind. Maybe a difference in the fairings, or that the 03 didn't have the lowers, who knows. Of course in 14 they redesigned the fairing, among other changes. As I get older, I wish they'd make a lighter touring bike - like 600 pounds instead of 900.

i really like the way it's stripped down , let's you customize it pretty easily .
the one thing i don't like is the big empty hole in the dash . really would it have been that hard do make a cover ?
that just screams to anyone looking at the bike 'hey look at me , i was too cheap to buy a radio!' whereas if the hole was covered it wouldn't be so obvious that there's supposed to be something there .

I was reading comments on a forum and people thought that $19,000 was insane for a stripped down street glide. People seem to LOVE the road king though. The way that I was looking at it was it's like a road king with the batwing fairing. I have seen road kings with batwing fairings painted to match which probably puts overall cost in the ballpark of the street glide. When it comes down to it the electraglide standard is a good value for a Harley touring bike. 2020 ABS is standard, but the price is the same as the 2019.

    • @MattLaidlaw

I personaly don't listen to a radio when I ride but a fairing with a big square hole in it and round circle cut outs for speakers. Why not make a more simplified fairing that doesn't look like someone stole stuff off of. Regular spoked wheels would be nice which brings up another question. Why do manufacturers, not just Harley, use cast wheels instead of steel spoke wheels now anyway ? All that I would add to this bike is the pillion pad and the backrest.

Rubbish/cheap finish on inside of fairing. The 'radio' cavity should come with a lockable door so it can be used as a glove-box. And if you are gunna have a stripped down Electra Glide option, then the saddlebags should be readily removeable - aka some BMW and Triumph touring models AND in such a way that the bike looks sexy (instead of ugly) when the saddlebags are removed. HD have got a lot to learn in this regard when it comes to variances in touring models.

Matt; I understand the concept of a "minimalist technology" platform positioned for customization, but IMO the Sport Glide offers more bang for the buck for us with limited budgets and if H-D or after market would offer a bigger detachable fairing / windscreen then this hits the sweet spot for touring and hopping around town without the fairing and bags. The base price of $18,700 with ABS seems hard to beat.
