    I have a 2024 Carrera T, 7 speed. Spent $150k for it, and i would say totally worth it. Not a quiet car, but super fun to drive. So fast, I couldn’t imagine needing a faster car on the road.

      Which headlights? The standard or the matrix LED? That upgrade is so costly, but I've never had LED headlights.

    One other advantage of the base engine is that the smaller turbos kick in at lower RPM and spool up faster than the bigger turbos from the S. makes driving the base that much more enjoyable when you’re not going flat out (which is a rare occurrence on public roads anyway)

    My wife and I landed on the 992 T when we couldn't get an allocation for a GTS. Porsche's 50k loss in margin turned to our benefit, as this has proven to be a remarkable car. It is the largest car in our garage, so handles grocery duties, and does so with aplomb. The car is competent in the snow as well, just not when there has been a good amount of accumulation (low ride height makes it a plow). The seventh gear is fantastic on highway drives, and the first six gears are close enough spaced to give a competent range for each selection. The sound you noted in the negatives is very much a function of the reduced sound deadening from the car, as well as the light weight windows. I find it more engaging as a consequence; you do hear more in the T, but not so much more that you can't have a conversation on the phone at 120mph. Short of a GT3 Touring, I wouldn't trade a T for any higher priced model in the lineup.

    I had a 991 T, sold it with house renovations going on, l wish l hadn't.
    The 991 had shorter ratios too, it topped out below 70 in 2nd gear.
    Yes rear seats are the usp of a 911. It's the perfect road car, hopefully I'll afford one again someday?!

    I loved this video and as for power, I think that we've all become rather fooled by the high horsepower thing that supposedly is a must .....I recently had a spirited drive of a friends 996 C4S and frankly, that felt fast and such fun to me, so I love that you articulate that one doesn't need 500 or 600 horsepower, to have or enjoy a good road car. I heartedly agree with you.

    Joe, I would pretty much spec mine the same as your spec. I had an allocation for a T a few months ago, but had to back out due to life circumstances. But I’m so glad I did because NOW I really know how to spec my forever Porsche - the only car I will need for the rest of my life, to drive every day and grow old with! I don’t care that I could’ve saved money because this was before the price increase, but to me the right spec is more important than money. I also need to thank the new ST for making me realize that the simpler the 911 the better. Yes, no BS rear wheel steering. Always love your videos Joe. And I have a strange feeling you will own a T one day real soon. Keep on rolling my friend and hope to meet you one day…

    I truly love my 992 T in Gentian Bliue (with no decals!) . Took delivery at PEC Atlanta and drove back home via Tail of the Dragon and other mountain routes. Manual transmission is the way to go even if it is the "slowest" option. THe car is easy to live with around town (not as much harshness as one might expect with lack of insulation) and a blast on the back roads. I came from two mid-engine Porsches (a 718 and before that the 987) and appreciate the uniqueness of the rear-engine handling quirks (even though it's tame compared to the old air-cooleds). The PEC experience was well worth it for the track time, skid pad, and autocross fun with the 911, and helped prepare me to appreciate the differences. And I don't have rear-axle steer, and I cannot imagine what I might be missing if I did - the car is brilliant as-is.

    Really good review. Thank you. Not the 992 for me, but it's clearly the one to go for if you want a manual coupe. My main concerns are the lower, stiffer suspension, and the fact that you are stuck with a black interior -- although if I had to have a black interior the Sport-Tex has to be the way to go. And I have to admit the sports exhaust also sounded good; I didn't notice any annoyingly incessant pops and bangs.

    I really think you would have enjoyed the GTS a lot more without that lightweight package. The thing is, most of the options in the lightweight package can be added a-la-cart. So you can add the lightweight/noise insulated glass, full bucket seats with rear seat delete, carbon fiber roof individually and still retain all the standard noise insulation.

    Your reviews have improved immeasurably over the years Joe--this one was packed full of information and your depth of experience is now starting to shine through. One thing I didn't hear you discuss though, was the brakes, they look tiny up front. And when I tried to spec one of these last week, PCCBs are not an option either. I gather poor braking performance wasn't a concern? You mentioned taking it on track, but I fear it wouldn't last long if you did.

    • @gsproperty8798
      @gsproperty8798 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I've got one Matt and on the road the brakes have actually surprised me. They look pretty weedy compared to say the GTS rotors but are really strong. I haven't tracked mine so can't comment on whether they'd last long without fading. On the road they are excellent.

    • @matttownsend473
      @matttownsend473 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@gsproperty8798 Nice one. It seems very much a road car though, so it's more a curiosity than a real quandary. I have a GR Yaris that I take to the track and I think the brakes are bigger than these on the 911T--didn't stop us from nearly setting them on fire last week though haha. What about the rear wing? If you specced that option, would the mechanical wing still lift at speed? It would be nice to be able to turn that option off as I tend to think it ruins the look of the rear when it comes up.

    • @gsproperty8798
      @gsproperty8798 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      😂 Yes I've got the standard wing. It stays down on Normal mode and raises above 60mph in Sport/Sport plus mode. I agree that the car looks much better when it is down.@@matttownsend473

    This box is very good and it is impossible for me after 3 months of having a 992/7 speed to miss shift either up or down, a master piece of engineering. Considering the high torque plateau the long gearing is not an issue, it was on my previous NA 981 gt4. Do not forget that the manual has a mechanical limited slip differential vs an electronic version on the pdk again it gives back
    Some raw natural driving feelings. Not talking about genius steering feedback, brake feel. Mine is under 1500 kg. For the moment I do not notice that tirés noise (I have the rear seats).

    I had a 7 speed manual 991.1. The best way to deal with coming down from 7th is to use the lockout. Not sure if still the same on the 992 but on the 991, you could only get to 7th from 5th and 6th. So when decelerating off the highway, pop the lever briefly into neutral and then back up and right for 5th. It’s still plenty long, zero issues.

    • @DontPanicDear
      @DontPanicDear 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s a good strategy. I’ll try that later.
      Also, given 7th is never needed while driving fast, it’s less important that it’s a little deliberate in use.
      I do enjoy the box less overall though, than the 6sp in my last Cayman GTS 4.0.

    I am so glad you argue for delete of rear axle steer. I am picking my T up at PEC LA next week. I really felt that option takes the T away from its purpose. But the internet insists this is an essential option. Also regarding std seats vs 18 way, I don't want thrones in my Porsche. However I am going to daily drive it probably 100 miles per day and I hope they are comfortable enough.

    That definitely is the model to buy and it wouldn't surprise me if Porsche played down the figure's regarding it's ability and performance as they would rather you spend a bucket load more money for a higher model (it's good business sense) which is essentially the same car mechanically as the base model. Also it keeps production costs down all being similar but they do have to cover all price points, it is the perfect sports car and there is no reason to look elsewhere 😂 Joe I hope they are giving you a commission for this review as I could see a few purchases off the back it you can tell the impression it's giving you in the driving experience is off the charts great review Joe and what a car you have created Porsche!!

  • @nvanpraag

    I too am lucky enough to have one of these Carrera T's and absolutely love the car. And you optioned it almost exactly as I did but I added a carbon fiber roof (mainly for looks, honestly, but did seem consistent with the whole weight savings thing) and a front end axle lift because I'm surrounded by challenging driveways and haunted by my perfectionist attitude. Also opted for the Carrera Exclusive wheels which are forged and more importantly... bitchin' lookin'! Unfortunately the Bose was not an option in '23 otherwise I would have ticked that box. But... excellent review and thanks for taking us on a fun drive!

      @nvanpraag 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@steveross8811 great question. I contacted Crutchfields and they don;t yet have the intel on the 992 (in other words, they haven't taken one apart yet) and I also spoke with a local specialist shop that works on a lot of Porsches. They didn;t have any specific experience with the 992 yet either. I actually think all it really needs is a self-powered bass module hooked up to the stock system (head unit). That would suffice for me, but I have not yet determined if this is a possibility. And in the end the car is NOT a candidate for an awesome stereo - loud, lessened sound deadening, etc - and I drive the car for the experience not for the stereo.

    I’m not sure what the general consensus is so I look forward to reading more of the comments, but I think the power and options are perfect in the 911T. It would be my pick of the 992 generation. My biggest gripe/qualm with this car and Porsche in general is the cost of entry for the base 911. I just don’t think the cars should start in the $90K range, with 1-2 “normal” options pushing you to $100K. I wish the cars started at $85-88K for a stripper variant with the rest of the non-GT range adjusted appropriately.

    Very interesting review. Were I to choose a 992 today, it would be this car, with the manual gearbox, the back seats and the nose lift (very practical, not to say indispensable in various situations, considering the 992 T has the lowered chassis). I agree with you that one can happily live without the rear steering wheels. For daily use and enjoyment, the more powerful 911ses are needlessly powerful and can easily get you into trouble if you exploit their potential on open roads. As a matter of fact, the most convincing experience I have had at the wheel of a sports car is driving the base Alpine A 110. Which doesn’t prevent me from being a Porsche enthusiast 😄

After 4 911,s im bored with them now so wont be getting a fifth but if I did it would be this T and in virtually the spec you describe except colour. Although you're a BMW fan boy does seem you're on the money. 😊

    Hi Joe! I have an M2 Comp similar to yours and have been considering switching to a 992 Carrera T. Would you make the change coming from the M2 Comp? Thanks!

    The beauty of the 992 Carrera T is that there just isn't much competition at that price point.

    Small correction: the Carrera-T does not have GTS suspension components. My understanding is that the Carrera-T suspension is the Sport-PASM suspension from the Carrera-S and not the one from the GTS that is derived from the turbo-series.

    Excellent review. I think a lot of affluent buyers are buying cars for the talking point. If they can afford it they opt right up for the GT3 RS even if they arent into track days. Ultimately a great sports car is about a robust engine a great gear change a planted suspension and direct steering. So if the Carrera T delivers you just endorsed that mix making it a great car to drive. Thanks for a driver's review

    great review as always, is the gentian blue not (or should be ) pronounced gen-shin? like venetian, egyptian, dalmatian, martian etc that are all spelled the same way..... just my opinion...could be wrong

    one question Joe - what is the best manual out of the cars you've tested? 6 speed GT3? FL5 type R? latest M2? it pains me that the manual is dying :(

    The 911 T is an amazing car, BUT - impossible to get one (at least in the US / Southern California) without a material dealer markup. Can't even get a base 911 without ADM nowadays :(

    I’ve never considered the Carrera T before but it actually makes sense - the only thing I would like is to spec it without the blacked-out trim. I prefer it to be more classy but still looks good

    Base engine Porsches with the GTS dynamic options (or the T form which is the same), are the way to go for a road car. My Cayman is specced exactly like that. And it’s sublime. You can really work it for the performance. It’s FAR more fun than an over powered car.

    Maybe a strange question Joe, but how does carerrera T compares against your g81 handling wise? How does front axle and steering feels vs the BMW?

    and the best thing is that you can pop a tune, and you will have a 470HP - just a bit more than GTS :) Add downpipes and some better filter - 490 HP

    Not a fan of yellow! Great car tho, would love to know the different between this engine and the one in the GTS, or if it is just mapping. Also a good set of goodyear eagle f1 Asymmetric 6 tyres would sort the tyre noise out, they are the quiest sports tyres available.

      bigger turbos in the GTS. Stage 1 tune on a T gives you around 460 hp

      if you were trying to scream at others "I don't know or care about driving but I wanted a Porsche anyway", congraz, you did it!(targa, awd and automatic... the "best" combo in a Porsche! 🤦🏿‍♂️🤦🏿‍♂️.. honestly, when all of you seem to be so "briliant", I'm *NOT* asking myself how the eff in the world did you manage to make the money in order to afford a 911..no, I'm asking myself, how the eff you lot don't forget to breath.. as, based on your Porsche choices, even that should be a struggle!)

    two questions, 1. The T or the S if the price delta is not an issue? and then 2. 992.1 or 992.2 given the 992.2s revised uglier (subjective) front grill and all digital display; but there might be some pluses in terms of more power, more color options and some other minor things.
