That sounds like an awesome gift from your employer (whether they knew or didn't that it was knaf cash). Money damn well spent. And these knives are only getting better from here on out.
Greetings from BC Canada! I commend you on this thorough and well balanced appraisal of BPS Knives. I totally concur with your explanation of how the blade was chipped under lateral forces when striking the knot, when considering the physics of this incident it is would be a classic outcome with a zero grind on a thinner blade. Yes, steel categorizations can get confusing between one country and another. This may well be akin to 5160 'spring' steel similar to that found in truck leaf springs. I also heard that one commentator thought it may be 80CRV2, which I have made a few knives from and have found to be tough. In reality it would be very bad practice to baton a knife with a huge mallet through sizeable knots, this might rightfully be described as very inefficient processing of kindling. I also extent my gratitude to you for standing up against the unjustified intrusion into Ukraine and criminal act of destroying infrastructure and innocent lives, let alone breaching every convention of war (even if war was justified, this not being the case). My wife and I have been instrumental in helping Ukrainians get out of Ukraine using the provisions of Canadian Immigration Laws. I think we are over 10 families so far and likely more to come. Every Blessing Friend, WS
They are the best knife for the money for what you get, quality made knife, quality made sheath with a great steel for the money you pay. That's a win.
Okay, I've had my BS1FTS knife for about two weeks now, and its not a bad little knife, except. First time I used it to cut a chicken leg off of a chicken thigh, the edge rolled. Not a huge problem, I have a Ken Onion Work Sharp. I think it was just over sharpened. Second, sheath was a bit tight, so I treated it with Boiled Linseed Oil, now the knife fits perfect. Lastly, I took the handle scales off yesterday, the 14th, you will need a metric Allan wrench. And I found Rust under the handle scales. I took a sanding sponge, and cleaned that up. So if you have any of the BPS knives, please, take the handle scales off, and check for rust.
have you seen the tang without the handle scales? It does make me giggle a little. But yeah, they simplified the companion a ton and arguably made it better for hard use.
The BS3FTS (or better, BS3FTS heavy dusty) are the knives Mora should have made instead of their new ridiculously priced Ashwood models, In my opinion.
I have the bps hk5 and have resharpend the edge on a harbor freight combination stone then finished it off with a barbers razor hone. The fresh steel underneath is much stronger, the factory edge is okay but temper is severely affected by heat of the sharpening process they use ie belt grinders. BTW the steel is Gost 65g structural spring steel. I personally use my svord vtb bowie for batoning, hedge apple and ironwood knots are no sweat for that knife.
Yup on the steel, I did point it out in the video :D in terms of batoning with the Svord Bowie vs the HK5, that knaf is thiccccc (1 c for each mm), I'd expect it to eat up anything. I wouldn't take it backpacking though, lol, that's a lot of weight!
have you ever checked out the Hultafors range of knives at first glance they look like Moras but they are considerably cheaper the GK model is the heavy hitter of the range, carbon steel blade Big comfortable polymer grip (I like it cos I have 3XL hands)
Their Stainless is 5cr13mov. This steel is actually really good for food processing, but for outdoor use, their 65h/1066 outperforms it in every way but corrosion resistance by a lot. Not that their Stainless is bad, it performs as expected for the price, but it's just that their carbon exceeds expectations.
The BPS 1066 B1 Bushcraft knife has the highest HRC out of the whole lineup @ 59-60 HRC👍. It's probably not as tuff as the other BPS offerings, but it's a tradeoff I'm willing to do for the application I'm using it for. It's constantly outperforming my American large batch in-house conveyor belt inferior heat treatment 1095🤷. Yeah yeah I know it shouldn't be, "on paper" 1095 has better Edge retention 🙄. Who would have thought when you pay more attention to a heat treatment process you get better results 🤷😉😂. For a few years I have been telling everyone in the knife community about the tremendous value in the BPS lineup. Even with recent Amazon price increases it's still a no brainer in my book 🤷. The B1 is now $34.99 on Amazon when I bought it was $28.00 I would gladly pay $34.99 for it any day of the week 👍.
I haven't tried any Extrema Ratio knives but I know who they are and they're impressive from what I've seen. I'm sure you've seen the DBK video on one of them, i'd 100% take it for what it is. In terms of the force... I haven't even seen one in the wild yet :'(
Unless you already have a sheath for it, the Jaakaripuukko is double the price and uses a steel that cuts for longer and holds its edge better, 80CrV2, 65Г has a tougher blade though.

Oh yeah! I LOVE Morakniv and have been thinking about getting a Marttiini for a long time, the only reason I haven't bagged one is that there's a few other knives a little bit ahead on that list.
Clarification, Polish 65g and Ukrainian 65г use the same recipe as what the American Iron & Steel Institute describes as 1066, BPS originally described their steel as 65г, but started showing 1066 when they sold on Amazon.
Thanks for the good review unfortunately not every knife made for batoning. I got for my self BPS HK1S bushcraft knife, and looking to get more premium knives from their website! Support Ukraine to win this craziness!
Great video, but you don't know the whole geopolitical story. Get informed before you comment or make accusations, check out the Duran channel. PS. I have a couple of BPS knives.
interesting choice of words. Saying that "[I] don't know" instead of saying I'm wrong tells me everything I need to know. I'm plenty informed and educated. Perhaps it is you who is misinformed or worse misguided. Ukraine has chosen independence and their allies have supported them. If russia were right about what Ukrainians want, they would have already taken over Ukraine.
@@JustCantGetRight russia ukraine are allies like any government they work to steal rights world wide u picking sides is such a sheep tv believer attitude grow up buddy
Great review, apart from the overkill use of a blade!! I like your level approach to assessing the product, and your support for Ukraine!!
The production value of this video is outstanding! You are funny and you really know your knife stuff! Thanks for the review!!
I got an Amazon gift card from my employer. I spent it all on BPS Knives for my wife and I. We now own 6. Money well spent.

You could definitely make a real go at this if you wish?

great video, keep them coming.I just got two myself and love them.beautiful and customizable.
As someone who has done quite a few bps knife reviews, you put mine to shame. You deserve many more views and subscribers
I've seen your videos! Frankly, I enjoy videos I can listen to and occasionally glance at, yours fit that bill just fine :D
Great show and thanks for the info 👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏
Their BS3FTS is nearly identical to a Mora Companion HD. Love my Mora so this model felt right at home in the hand.
