    Okay, I've had my BS1FTS knife for about two weeks now, and its not a bad little knife, except. First time I used it to cut a chicken leg off of a chicken thigh, the edge rolled. Not a huge problem, I have a Ken Onion Work Sharp. I think it was just over sharpened. Second, sheath was a bit tight, so I treated it with Boiled Linseed Oil, now the knife fits perfect. Lastly, I took the handle scales off yesterday, the 14th, you will need a metric Allan wrench. And I found Rust under the handle scales. I took a sanding sponge, and cleaned that up. So if you have any of the BPS knives, please, take the handle scales off, and check for rust.

    • @danielcharbonneau222
      @danielcharbonneau222  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for your comment! I never had the edge roll on either of the knives as of yet. Every time I use them I strop them on leather looking for a little convex style edge. This may help to reduce the rolling. I will take off the scales and check them out for rust, last thing we need is hidden problems like rust. Great heads up thanks.

      @@RobertHicks007 Yeah, so I set up my Ken Onion Work sharp, with the belt grinder attachment, and fixed the problem. I honestly think it was over sharpened. I've now put a good 20 degree edge on it, and no more problems.

    Good deal on 2-knives from BPS, Ukraine. Relaxing video, kinda getting addicted to watching these. No yelling and acting out. Just calm descriptions and analysis, step by step. Would have been fun to see the small knife in the larger sheath, just to see what the fit is like. I think I'd want a heavier leather. I believe you can get the sheaths for $20. Maybe.

    Being hand made there's always going to be imperfections. I've been carrying my Adventurer for a few yrs and still my favorite fixed blade. Replaced my USMC KA-BAR with the Adventurer and never went back.

    I have two BPS knives also. Mine are the small kephert style from when they first appeared on the US scene. It did not have a finished spine, I had to do that. It also came with the better dangler sheath. The other is the new Mini Finn with a 3 inch blade and small serviceable sheath that I added a dangler to. The steel has held up well and is tough. I use it to baton and all I have to do is strop it. Thanks 🎸🔪

    Obviously honest knives at a great price. Ordered the BS3 before I came here, and I regret it already... should have bought the BS3 PLUS The Adventurer 😁. The leather of the BS3 sheath seems to be a bit thicker than that of the BS1FTS, at least on pictures. Can't wait to hold it in my hands. Wonder if there will be rust under the handle though 🤔, as mentioned below. But then again, an easy fix if necessary. Great review, thanks a lot!

    Really great knives. Probably about the same price as a mora but you get a leather sheath and a wooden handle instead of plastic. I got the small one a few months ago and just ordered the adventure today. Besides being a good knife I think we all want to do a little something to help Ukraine, very sad what's happening over there. I hear they are donating these knives to their military.

    I just received my first BPS knife. I bought the "Savage". I got it to use as a chef knife for camping and partly because of the bad ass name.
    I watched a lot of videos about this brand and everyone raved about the quality. Maybe mine was made on a monday, because it looks like a job a High Schooler would do in shop when the teacher is not looking.
    But for under 40 bucks delivered l will look at it as a kit and do the fine details myself.
    For 40 bucks l couldn't buy a blade blank, material for scales and leather for a sheath.

    • @danielcharbonneau222
      @danielcharbonneau222  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah I hear what you are saying. My two knives were OK the scales were rough and dry so I soaked them in boiled Linseed Oil over night. I didn't mind the roughness. Both knives came nice and sharp. My ferro rod fell apart so I drilled out the hole and re glued it. But sometimes you have to look past that because like you said they are very inexpensive. I place both of my knives in the center console of my truck for emergencies. Every chance I get to use them I do and the edge seems to hold its edge good, but I strop it every time I'm done with them. Thanks for dropping by and leaving your comment for everyone to read.

      I have the Savage and the blade does not have the high polish of the smaller blades, which I would prefer as it fends off corrosion better, otherwise I really like it. Great design and love the bog oak han dle. I wonder if the variation in fit and finish is related to not being as fully jigged up for newer blade shapes. And also, some of their best men might be fighting on the front lines. Kharkiv Forge that makes high end axes, lost at least one of their people in action.

    Nice job testing those knives. They’re pretty good knives. I have one I got from Karl Ruedger and I like it quite a bit. I did put a nasty bend/roll in the edge close to the handle but that’s probably my fault for using it a little rough. They’re really sharp and the edge was probably a bit thin for hard use,but it’s fine. Thanks for sharing with us. 👍👍

      The handles on these two knives were dry, so after this video I soaked the over night in linseed oil, why over night, well because I forgot about them LOL. They turned out nice after they dried. I know that BPS knives are making knives for their military so I'm sure that's why the quality control department is not at the top of their game I guess. Great review. Both look like good knives. Can we force a patina on the blade with gun blue, or vinegar? I live on Lake Champlain and the humidity plays hell even on my stainless steel knives. I try to keep them well oiled with mineral oil but the high carbon steels don't give AF & bloom rust spots anyway. 😣 I'm thinking the scales are perfect for mods like a colored stain or woodburning a tribal design. Easy to remove while you work on them or make your own scales.

    • @danielcharbonneau222
      @danielcharbonneau222  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First off thanks for dropping in and leaving a comment. I've watched many videos on giving blades a nice patina, {lots of different techniques} and they do turn out beautiful. I put out a video of me making Hot Fridge Pickles. I started off with a vintage Mora never used and when I was done it had its own patina, and it still looks the same {natural} almost like it was put in a fire LOL. As for the scales, yeah you can do so much with them when your able to remove them. For me I just soaked them in boiled linseed oil. Not one of the below comments stated that they had some rust under their scales, so it would be a good thing to remove them just to take a look. Take care.

    Imagine making these two knives and selling them for just $68.00 with shipping from across the ocean 😳.
    I wonder how much it would cost for two US comprable made knives🤔.
    I know of a few US knife companies that sell one little decorative lanyard bead for $68.00 without even supplying the 550 paracord for the knife bead🤷.
    I love my 100% mirror-polished 9.25 inch BPS B-1 1066 Bushcraft spearpoint fixed-blade hardened to 59-60 HRC👍.
    On paper 1066 shouldn't have nearly as good of edge retention as 1095, however with one wicked bad-ass BPS heat treatment it's constantly outperforming my 1095 from Esee, Ka-Bar, and Ontario Knife company🤷.
    I guess when you do small batch heat treatments like BPS, instead of a massive in-house conveyor belt heat treat system that's what happens🤷 👍.
    A hand made small batch heat-treat full Tang knife ground to a true 0° scandi grind for $34.99😳?
    Ummm let me think 🤔🙄Yes Please, I will take two 👍👍👍.
