      This might be one of only a couple Long 900's that ever made it to youtube and she is a looker for sure ! If you type in Long 900 Pictures on google this one pops up right at the top of the list ! LOL She was in the very first video I made and put up on youtube so she has been with me the hole way so I got to keep her around ! Bandit

    Nothing like a good cheap repair! It reminds me of the time my neighbor who is mostly a John Deere man said he wished they still made everything like they did in the 2 cylinder era! When he picked up his 2640 from the dealership after a $7000 dollar transmission repair he said “that should have never happened”! “I ran that old model B for years and never had anything go wrong!” One time the starter went out and it only cost $1.25 for the repair kit to rebuild it! Lol! Nice to know you can still catch a break every once in a while!!

      About 20 years ago my cousin bought a JD 9510 combine and it ran like a dream that fall. But after a good clean up at the end of the year and sitting over the winter in a heated shop it wouldnt start heck it wouldnt even turn over ! I went to look at it after he called me and after about 2 hours I told him you got to call JD cause I dont know whats wrong with it. Guy from JD showed up and I went to tell him what I had already done to it and he said what I did was a waste of my time I already know whats wrong with it ! Long story short he said I found the problem and made a phone call and said I'll be back in an hour and sure enough he was right on time ! LOL And hour later we herd the combine fire up and was running like a top ! He gets done went to his truck and came back with the bill and handed it to my cousin, I now know what someone looks like when they crap a meat ax ! The bill was $17000 ! A mouse had chewed threw some wires and shorted out the computer and it had to be replaced ! So a $ .45 O ring is more than a welcomed sight for me to fix the Long. Dont you wish all repairs could be as simple as this and cost so little ? LOL I thought the hydraulic pump was shot and I was going to be in for a lot of work changing it, But I was really happy to find a blown O ring to replace ! My JD 95 and 4400 are a year apart in age but I can tell you for a fact that I would much rather work on the 95 any day over the 4400 for sure, At least you can get to stuff pretty easy on the 95 but the 4400 everything is covered up under the sheet metal ware nothing is easy to get to ! That would be a shock to get that bill! I kinda got a shock earlier this year when I had to replace the fan belt on my Paps old Allis model U! It’s one of them old flat belts,so you just can’t go into Napa or tractor supply and pick one up! Surprisingly, I did find a local surplus store that sold all kinds of flat belts and It only costed me 8 bucks! But my celebration was cut short when I went to have it laced together! The local JD dealership soaked me $68 dollars, just to lace it together! I about fainted! I hope that belt lasts’s at least the rest of my life! That’s why I hate going there to get anything done! Greedy pigs!!

      @@jodyleasure8719 A place I used to work at had a case packer that had a leather belt instead of a normal rubber canvas belt, I found a new place to get the belt but they sold it by the foot with no lacing . The guys at work were going nuts trying to find someone to do it and they got all kinds of prices to do it. I told them give me a couple hours and I'll be back and about an 1 1/2 hours I was back with everything I needed to put the lacings on those belts for them from TSC ! LOL Total cost was about $45 for the clamps and pins in a bag. My boss asked me how I knew ware to get these, I told him I farm with older equipment and you got to fix it yourself cause you cant afford to pay someone to do it for you. I got a $100 bonus that week in my paycheck and they started coming to me to find stuff for them and the old man that owned the place liked it to cause I saved him money. Never hurts to look around and remember ware you see things at cause you never know when you might need something for yourself or someone else. My cousin paid the bill but he ended up doing a lot of custom cutting that year to help pay for it ! Oh BTW he sold it a couple years later and went back to an older pre computer combine ! LOL Bandit

    I had the same o-ring experience last year when my friend Ben and I were working on the brake booster on my F600 dump truck. Needed an o-ring that was oval shaped (not round). Was shaped like a racetrack. Ben didn’t have one in his service truck or at his shop. We drove 30 miles to a company that has any o-ring or seal you could ever imagine in stock. We took the booster part with us and the guy who waited on us matched it up with the correct oval o-ring. When I asked what I owed him, he looked at me and said “Nothing - it’s not worth my time or effort to even write that up. Just take it and have a nice day “. Sometimes you get lucky. 23 inch tires on the 4400 would be nice. Considered that myself for the muddy falls we sometimes get. Also, my 4400 has the same fan set up as yours, so I’ll be watching what you do to see if it works.

      When it comes to the Long I know everything on it is metric and the odds of finding the right O ring was slim to none, But I knew just ware to go to get what I needed. Cook hydraulic is a good place to go because they service every kind of pump or cylinder made and I knew they would have that O ring and they sure did. $ .45 I couldnt argue with one bit, I'd have give $5 for it just to know I had the right one ! LOL If I get rid of the 95 I am keeping the 23.1x26 tires on it and the back tires too but I dont know if the 4400 needs them, That puts a big strain on the transmission and final drives. I think the 18.4x26 rice tires are tall enough for it because when you go up the field you can sure feel it pulling hard on it. Now if they would have made a tire as wide as the 23.1's but just a hair taller than the 18.4's that would have been great for this old girl but the 23.1 are a lot taller and that really takes more power to keep them turning when it gets soft. I just spent 1/2 a day blowing out the engine compartment even if I did it last time I got done with it and it was like god ware did all this crap come from ! Even the screens were 1/2 plugged up but there all clean now ! I really need to make a vac system to go on it to take all the dust from the front of the feeder house and the back right under the engine and blow it out the back to keep it away from the engine compartment and plugging those screens. That would really help these combines out a lot ! Bandit

    • @pagrainfarmer
      @pagrainfarmer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@banditfarmer1900 When you one up with that system, share your design with me. Since air closed up the fist-sized hole under the engine where it connects to the firewall, I’m getting a lot less chaff in there. When taking off oats this year, just got a few of those little husks from around the grains. So hoping with corn, this year there is even less. Combine didn’t overheat at all this summer, so hoping the new radiator did the trick, as well as carefully sealing off all ways air could be pulled into the engine compartment, except where it’s supposed to come in through those baffles and screens on the top and front of the engine compartment.

    • @banditfarmer1900
      @banditfarmer1900  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pagrainfarmer I'd really like to find some kind of suction blower I could put on it just to suck that dirty air out of the front of the feeder house and back in front of the cylinder. If you could get rid of that the engine compartment would stay alot cleaner. Biggest problem I see is running a hose or tube along the side of the machine ware its out of the way of everything else. I wonder if a grass blower off a lawn mower would do it, If it would that would be a lot easer to find but the trick is to figure out ware to mount and drive it ! Its in the back of my mind so IF I see one I'll buy it and start playing with it to figure it out. When I figure it out I will sure let you know about it ! Bandit

      James as it turns out the problem was the 3pt lever got stuck in the up position dead heading the hydraulics and that what cause to O ring to blow out. After figuring out what happened and fixing the lever the pump is running cool again. I am really glad this turned out to be a really simple cheap fix, Most of the time you just know its going to be in the thousands of dollars to fix it but this time it was $ .45 ! Back when I was planting soybeans the Long 900 developed a hydraulic problem in the field and I had to park it and finish planting with the Oliver 1850. I got the Long out of the field and back up to the barn to sit till I have time to figure out and fix it. As it turns out the 3pt lever got stuck in the up position and dead headed the hydraulic system and it blew out the O ring on the hydraulic pump, I really thought I screwed up the hydraulic pump ! Being this tractor was built in Europe everything on it is metric and there is only one place I know of to get major hydraulic parts from and thats Cook Hydraulic in Wilmington Ohio so I made the trip their to see if they had what I needed to fix it . They had the O ring I needed and it was a hole $ .45 to fix the Long ! LOL I know this took awhile to get around to fixing this but I have other things I have to do but she got fixed back up and is running like a top again and ready to go. I hope you enjoyed watching. Have you every though of changing from 2 6 volt battery’s to 1 12 volt battery? I have a long 910 and the 2 6 volt battery’s only last 2 years. They cost about $ 250.00 for the 2….that was 2 years ago last spring. I have though about building a bracket by the starter for one, just don’t know how big of a 12 volt I would need and if it would be cost effective. Have a good day.

    • @banditfarmer1900
      @banditfarmer1900  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The long has one big 12 volt 1000 CCA battery in it and as you could see in the video it has a high Tork starter on it instead of the old big starter Long put on them that you cant get parts to rebuild them with. When I first got it I had 2 12V batteries hooked together and the old starter just didnt get it and after trying to get it rebuilt and not being able to I bought a new starter and 1 battery made it wing right over. Problem now is finding good 6 volt batteries that will last, Heck a big 12V battery like a 1000 CCA is still in the $150 $200 range so its still cheaper just to have one big battery instead of 2 smaller ones, Its a sign of the times you got to do the cheapest thing that will work to get by these days. • @banditfarmer1900
      @banditfarmer1900  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldnt call it a pump fail as it works fine, It does have a leak in the steering box and that might be as simple as the wrong oil in the system. This tractor was built in Europe and the manual I have really doesnt make it crystal clear what oil to use in it, It was really leaking after I put oil in this spring (new type of oil) so I've been looking into this and trying to figure out what oil they used in Europe when the tractor was built in 1975.
