      @Inspirational Talks & Video If it's not broke don't fix it haha. I kinda feel the same way as of right now. The only way I could move away from the cameras I have is if a camera had as good of autofocus as my Sony and if it had 10 bit recording for $2.5k or under. If it can charge over usb while in use or record over USB like the BMPCC 4k then I could easily jump to something else. We will see though! Thanks for watching!

    Thank you for the comparison. Looking for a first camera, mainly for short documentaries (interview indoor/outdoor, walking and filming) and for photography (secondary use).
    Sony a6400 video in your test looks nice, amazing auto focus. However as you said gimbal may be needed for steady image.
    Perhaps in post-prod you GH5 can produce better video.. I just wonder if as a beginner I should start focus on all parts... or first on shooting/story/compositions etc. In the future more on post prod?

    This is such a great and thorough video, thank you for this! 💜 I'm like 90% I'm going to buy the A6400 purely for the autofocus. I wanted to buy the GH5 originally because of the image quality, but my biggest problem is that I walk towards/away from the camera a lot and I move a lot in my videos in general. I shoot 99% of my videos indoors with not the best lighting at the moment, which is why in my old point and shoot canon G7X m3 camera my footage was always covered in noise even if I shot at the brightest time of the day with a ring light. Not sure if I would have to still buy more lighting for the either of these cameras, but would rather stick with less gear in my small apartment. Would love your input on which camera to go with, though I think I may already know your answer!

    • @JakeMcHugh
      @JakeMcHugh  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think you are on the right track going the a6400 route. It’s autofocus is amazing and it’s lowlight/ISO performance will serve you better as well. The crop factor on the GH5 makes it tough to get wider shots for smaller spaces with out some distortion compare to the Sony. Not sure what lenses you have in mind, but I think the kit lens will be a good start for you and down the line you could always upgrade to the sigma 16mm or 30mm f1.4 for more shallow depth of field and lowlight. You might not need more lighting with this camera, but I always recommend it as good lighting and audio will always go further than the camera you use in my opinion. If you want to keep a low profile for your small space I recommend checking out the Quasar T8 tube lights. They are lightweight, soft source, dimmable, high quality LEDs at a pretty affordable price considering. You can find the 2 foot models for around $45 and the 4 foots for $75. With being light you can literally gaff tape them to the wall if need be so you wouldn’t have to worry about taking up space. The only downside is they require wall power. I might be doing a review on these down the line. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    I shoot weddings, real estate videos and general run and gun style videos. I'm in-between choosing between this two Cameras. I would love to make my final decision as regards what I'll be going for finally.
    NB: i planned on getting the 18-35 sigma Lens for any of the camera's i choose.
    Great Videos as always 👌

    • @JakeMcHugh
      @JakeMcHugh  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the GH5 would be perfect for you, especially for weddings and run and gun shooting with the Sigma 18-35mm on a speed booster. The Sigma will help when you are starving for some light indoors and the IBIS of the GH5 will help with the handheld. Handheld shooting can be tough with the a6400 since it has no IBIS and the poor rolling shutter. For real estate, the GH5 shooting in 4k 60fps on a gimbal with the Tokina 11-16mm has been working well for me. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    What camera would you suggest for Hip Hop & Trap Music Videos / Studio Vlogs for musicians? I’m learning towards the A6400 for the size, price and decent set of features even though I know the GH5 is the all around better camera.

    • @JakeMcHugh
      @JakeMcHugh  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would say the a6400 would be the way to go if you plan on not setting up lighting all the time, will be on a tripod/gimbal most of the time, and are going to be shooting yourself mostly since the autofocus is so good. The lowlight on this camera is better so the lack of lighting wouldn’t be as big of an issue granted I recommend getting some to spice up your shots. The tripod and gimbal would be needed because shooting handheld on this camera is a challenge. If you are going be lighting your shots and walking around while vlogging then the GH5 would be nicer because of its IBIS. The 4k 60fps and Variable frame rate would be killer for music videos too. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    • @JakeMcHugh
      @JakeMcHugh  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Make sure your firmware is up to date or at least version 2.6. This camera made big strides once that firmware came out. I recommend checking out this video here to see the exact settings I use (th-cam.com/video/xNNjO76YbhQ/w-d-xo.html). If I recall correctly I just have the custom speed and sensitivity settings up all the way and use One Area for focus mode over face detection. I also find that it gets much more reliable once you get around f2.8-f3.2 and up. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

  • @ItsTahmid
    @ItsTahmid 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I hope to do some short films or skits at home, while also using it for travelling. Which of the cameras do you recommend? I know the GH5 is way better in terms of quality and has IBIS which is great however I will be doing skits by myself so I will be in front of the camera too so decent autofocus is required. Which do you think would suit my needs more?
    Side note since I would like to upload to TH-cam I probably will start by uploading in 1080p, which camera has better 1080p footage?

    • @JakeMcHugh
      @JakeMcHugh  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It really depends on the quality of footage you want. The GH5 is much much better in this regard, even the 1080p footage. If autofocus is a must then you will have to go with the a6400, but if you can get away with using manual focus then the GH5 would be the better option in my opinion. One thing I could have mentioned in the video is that the smartphone app for Panasonic is probably the best on the market and you can pull focus from the app as well. If you are going to be moving around a lot in front of the camera then the autofocus will make life easier, but if you’re going to be in one spot for the most part you can just use the app to pull focus.
      As for uploading to TH-cam, the GH5 has the better 1080p footage, but I would edit in a 4k timeline with either camera’s footage and upload in 4k to TH-cam. This will give your footage a lot better viewing quality on the platform. I hope this all helps and thanks for watching!

    • @JakeMcHugh

      The a6400 is still a very good option depending on what you are doing! I haven’t really heard of anything down the pipeline for Sony yet with its APSC line so I think you could buy it soon with no worries of it being replaced. I think even if they added some of the features it currently lacks it would cost a lot more than what you could get the a6400 for right now. Maybe if someone has any info they could fill us in.
