This is basically different timeline rather than a prequel. And with that in mind, different events transpire in this universe. The virus could do one of three things: spread gradually amongst human kind, slowly die out as all infected humans slowly die out, or remain in populations of infected humans seperated from non infected humans. It's a new timeline, anything could happen.

Did the Northern Army really just use tactics that would have been considered impractical in this post apocalyptic world? What a dumb scene - to be wiped out minutes on arrival because they wasted their payload on an area which can trigger an avalanche.
It's kinda post apocalyptic, think of walking dead but with apes instead of zombies. Also the US military is really stupid, cuz they could have just sent a few jets to blow the base up and even if an avalanche happened, the northern army would have still been miles away from it.

Very good point you made. I also noticed no one shouted or said anything when they saw Ceaser standing near them. Also in reality after a big battle would it have been more sensible to keep the army and trucks not so close to the enemies base. Yes its all been destroyed with the men that worked inside, but still would of been more sensible and tactical to send maybe a couple trucks and a smaller group of men ahead first to scout the ruins of the base.
Like the flood in the story of Moses that washed away the army of Egypt and the Hebrews were finally free to travel to the promised land. I heard the writers looked to such stories as inspiration when making this movie

This scene was really stupid to me.. The whole final battle really.. Apache helicopters don't make swooping runs like they do in the movie.. They loiter from miles away and unleash their missiles and rockets.. And the entire killed by an avalanche is just a really dumb way to wrap up the intelligent human race.. Rise was a solid movie that set a good foundation and gave a really great explanation of how the human race was decimated by the virus and how the apes gained their intelligence... Dawn was the best movie of the bunch bar none.. It did an amazing job of showing the humans as just trying to survive and didn't just make them evil for plot convenience.. It also creates an ape civil war which is really cool and the human survivors put up a really good fight.. War just disappoints me in so many ways.. The initial battle scene was entertaining and solid put it was kinda dumb for there to be no scout/sniper overwatch and no indirect fire like a mortar team or anything to counter the apes using the ridge and arrow fire.. You would expect a little more from apparently special forces unit.. Then we have Nova... Where her father is killed by the apes but she just happily goes along with them with no issue.. Then even the Colonel while I understand his argument and his distrust of a scientific solution ... Even he must know splitting your already thin forces in 2 is an even worse idea with a full war against the apes ongoing.. Then the final battle was just pitifully portrayed with apaches acting like WW2 aircraft and hardly any effective use of indirect fire or massed armor.. Its a convenient way for the apes to win.. Because the apes would not stand a chance against a human military using air power and indirect artillery and massed armor to its actual effectiveness

Nice little metaphor for humans destroying themselves, also the choice of an avalanche is poignant as it wipes away the humans entirely leaving a empty landscape for the apes who survive, much like the overall fate of humanity to be wiped out leaving a blank canvas for the apes
it wasn't the entire us army. It was a flirts wave, and apparently a dumb flirts wave as they used tactics that make no sense, from a logical and from a militaristic viewpoint. They literally fired everything from their tanks, rocket launchers, jeeps, even their apache helicopters which were all shot down. Not to mention they don't even know that avalanches can occur in these areas.
As dumb as this battle was, no sane or competent commander is going to use most or all of their troops on an operation unless they’re extremely desperate and are willing to suffer the blow to manpower and military resources.

I like to think that the entire army had the virus and was in some way devolved, hence why they were mindlessly charging at the base and making and not talking.

it wasn't the entire us army. It was a flirts wave, and apparently a dumb flirts wave as they used tactics that make no sense, from a logical and from a militaristic viewpoint. They literally fired everything from their tanks, rocket launchers, jeeps, even their apache helicopters which were all shot down. Not to mention they don't even know that avalanches can occur in these areas.

As dumb as this battle was, no sane or competent commander is going to use most or all of their troops on an operation unless they’re extremely desperate and are willing to suffer the blow to manpower and military resources.
