I didn't play the game, and i assume somethings were changed and they didn't try to follow the original telling of the story, BUT. Wukong literally wreck heaven's kingdom solo BEFORE he went to help deliver the scripture, so why the would they think they have a chance to fight him again? After all he's been through he's even stronger than he was when he started the journey.
