When Wes Ball was announced as the director, I was initially skeptical on whether he'd be able to get the VFX artists to make the apes look as good as the ones from the previous films. But then, I remembered the dude was a VFX artist before he was a director and it was an animated short he made that got him the job of directing _The Maze Runner._ So, clearly, he knows what he wants when it comes to VFX.
They did an amazing job with this movie, and the way the eagle clan handled Proximus was awesome. It reminds me of that scene in War for the Planet of The Apes when Caesar was telling donkey to leave the orangutan alone. It only takes one voice. Apes together strong!!!!!
The thing I like about Proximus is despite his hubris and eccentric nature, he continued the trend from dawn of having an understandable almost sympathetic antagonist despite their wrongdoings. Even one of the directors said he was exactly a villain.
Proxima was definitely right, you should never trust a human but you also can’t trust Proxima either. This movie had such amazing writing, this saga is not underrated but it should be bigger than it is. I’m kinda glad its a hidden gem and really can’t wait for the sequels
That's the thing, the more some of these evolved apes start thinking/acting like that, the more like us they become. I definitely think that's one of the main points this reboot series is going to keep hammering; there's NO difference between us now, and we should all get along but we won't. One of these movies really needs to point out that humans are apes too lol.
In a way Proximus is like Koba. He has a justified fear of the humans, but he uses said fear as an excuse to hurt and kill other apes under a twisted version of Caesar's ideology.
The sad part is that, when Mae betrays Noa (for the survival of her kind, but still) it kind of proved Proximus right that "apes cannot trust humans" and that "humans and apes cannot live in peace". And honestly, neither side is really to blame. It's just that both sides think "the continued existence of one or the other is mutually exclusive".
Because it kind of is there not enough resources for two inteligent human like species to live on a planet like ours unless one has space flight and can get their own planet otherwise resources will run out space will run out I think that is the aspect that both species realize as things go on.

Even if humans didn't have their great intelligence and guns, they'd still be formidable opponents for the apes to try and capture. Humans ability to accurately throw spears with fantastic force is unmatched in the animal kingdom, with the average being able to throw a sharp projectile about 32 feet with lethal force. Fifty humans working together and hurling javelins would be nothing to mess with for melee-based apes.
Unmatched in the animal kingdom as we know it. These intelligent apes are not in animal kingdom as we know it, if they were, humans would definitely not be unmatched.
@@ade5004 Yeah, they would be. It has to do with how the muscles are connected to the skeletal structure and the way the waist/torso/shoulders/arms are shaped etc that gives humans fantastic throwing power. Believe it or not, but gorilla's can't "punch" very hard. They can fist-down slam your head like a grape, don't get me wrong, but they have surprisingly weak punches, because it's the same 'throwing' motion that we're great at.
I questioned that initially, but the virus has took a very heavy toll in terms of human intelligence. Take a look at that zebra scene, there were only a few gorillas on horses but the humans were in their tens. If it was our ancestors they would have pulled out their spears, took a defensive stance in the river and after a bloody fight eventually came out on top. However, if you look carefully none of those humans were armed with a spear and probably had no idea how to use one. Instead they fled in obvious patterns that were similar to the zebras. It is safe to say that exposed humans in this timeline are dead meat.
While Mae blew up the dam to kept the last species of humanity safe, she also saved the apes too, if Proximus got his hands on those weapons other clans would be in danger, since his henchmen have no problem killing their own species
